Made it across this river with Dewey Dell, Vardaman, and Vernon. Hope the others will come across safely too.

The life of a farmer ain't an easy one. Take it from me. I've been through lots of hard times, like bad harvests and now Addie dying. And now the bridge across the river is gone too. Maybe when I go to Heaven, God will reward me for my courage and strength. Right now, though, I have to worry about the river. If we can't cross it, then I won't be gettin' them teeth. We're staying at Samson's tonight. Maybe we can make a plan while we're there.

Jewel ended up manning the coffin by himself. It wobbled on his shoulder so much, but somehow it ended up in the wagon. Thank God, because that was scary as hell.

The boys are back. Maybe they can help me and Cash carry the coffin and put it in the wagon.

Funeral was today. I reckon we should head to Jefferson soon, like she'd wanted.
