The gang and I hope that all of you enjoyed #NationalPetDay!
Every American deserves to live free from discrimination—no matter who they are or who they love.

Always a good time talking with Gina Grant.
Today I walked to my office. Not because there was something wrong with my car or because it will be a major way for me to get around when I transition to the East coast but because I could. Often times there are so many things we take for granted like walking when there are so many others who would love the opportunity to be able to. Glad the Universe gave me this enjoyable reminder. What will you do today? #AnthonyChisom
Stephen Schwartz is banning theatres in North Carolina from producing Wicked after the state passed an anti-LGBT bill.
In the wake of North Carolina’s horrific HB2, composer Stephen Schwartz has halted all North Carolina productions of his acclaimed musical Wicked in protest of the law. He said he wants other productions to do the same.
“I feel that it is very important that any state that passes such a law suffer economic and cultural consequences, partly because it is deserved and partly to discourage other states from following suit,” said Schwartz.
The legendary composer urged other Broadway luminaries outraged about the bill to do the same.
“If you are in agreement, you may want to join me in refusing to license our properties to, or permit productions of our work by, theaters and organizations in North Carolina until this heinous legislation is repealed,” he wrote.
But wait! Not everyone is on board:
“CTG’s bread and butter is its shows, which all must get royalty permission from their owners in order to be produced,” Mitchel Sommers, executive director for the Community Theatre of Greensboro, said. “If Stephen Schwartz’s ban on N.C. theaters producing his work is mirrored by his other Broadway colleagues, which is inevitable, what are we going to put on?”
In a Facebook post, Jamie Lawson, the artistic director for the Theatre Alliance in Winston-Salem, urged Schwartz to rethink the boycott. The theatre alliance is set to stage a production ofPippin in 2017.
Lawson argued that pulling out of North Carolina would “[affect] the wrong population.”
“If your suggested boycott occurs, it will likely put our nonprofit theater company of 32 years… out of business,” he said. “From a 45-year-old gay man who grew up in a rural town and turned to theater in the darkest hour, I would hate to see the whole state go dark because of a few bigoted individuals who care nothing about a theatrical boycott, anyway. You wouldn’t be hurting them; you would be hurting us… your supporters.”
Yikes. These are all really good points. Wouldn’t it just be easier for North Carolina to realize it messed up, get rid of HB2, and avoid this mess altogether?
No justices dissented from the decision.
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed a decision by the Alabama Supreme Court which had denied the adoption rights of a same-sex couple.
Two women had adopted a child together in Georgia, and when they later separated, one of them asked for her legal parental rights to be respected so she could be granted custody and visitation rights. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled against her, and SCOTUS says that was the wrong move.
The court issued the decision in a summary reversal on Monday morning, ruling in a brief, unsigned opinion that the Alabama Supreme Court had failed to give “full faith and credit” — a constitutional requirement — to a Georgia court’s decision granting the adoption.
“The Georgia judgment appears on its face to have been issued by a court with jurisdiction, and there is no established Georgia law to the contrary,” the court held. “It follows that the Alabama Supreme Court erred in refusing to grant that judgment full faith and credit.”
The case is now going back to the Alabama Supreme Court. Oof. Here’s hoping that this whole mess is resolved soon and these parents can be recognized for the family they built together.

This Pastor Is Sleeping Outside Until His Church Accepts LGBT People
A Methodist minister has cast himself out into the cold to show his support LGBT people, vowing to sleep in a tent outside his Michigan home for 175 days to protest his church’s opposition to same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBT members.
Your presence is important.
Hillary Clinton has shown herself to be a formidable candidate—and a much happier one.
Will she finally, at long last, make history?
Sleep doesn’t help if it’s your soul that’s tired.
