Anthony Sanders – “The Palm Of A Fault” (Stereogum Premiere)
The Island Of Misfit Toys leader Anthony Sanders released the very great album I Made You Something…
Before u guys sing bath live, you do like a small song. Idk how to explain it. But it's not the official song. It's like the preface so to speak. Why do u guys do that? And is it considered Bath?
Excellent, excellent question! So this has never been “caught” before, and I’m giddy talking about it, due to growing up loving conceptual continuity in albums. At the end of the song “Moral Melt,” there’s an acoustic passage that caps it that’s pretty disparate from the rest of the song. Here are the lyrics:“New developments in my progression: I know exactly who I’ve been. I thought there was this red badge of self-hate, free from pollution of pride. Could that help me? Oh, crown me uncomely king. It took ten years, five bands, two girls, and one friend to truly make me sing. I’m the sum of my parts, I’m the bright and the slighter sides of my heart. Thelema, Thelema, MY will be done, MY will be done. And that’s the closest I can come to an artist’s statement“
It’s basically taking the hedonism found in the lyrics of “Moral Melt,” and letting people know that these things live inside of me still, but just make me a complex person like everybody else, hence, “the sum of my parts.”
HOWEVER, if you have the physical LP, there’s a message on the back cover. I believe it’s also printed on the cassette insert. It reads as follows:
“New developments in my transgression: I almost don’t feel the way that I do! I’ve crash-landed without tact intact; what have I come to? Oh, crown me uncomely king. It’s been far too long since I started the investigation of why I even sing. Dilemma, dilemma, thy will be done, thy will be done. And that’s the closest I can come to some insane patience.”
This is sort of the first bookend to what the end of “Moral Melt” concludes. It’s posing the thought, why am I the way that I am? Why do I feel beset in my own body, just by being myself? When you turn the LP to the back cover, that’s essentially the first “lyric” of the album: the one you read.
However, we SING it live, and it’s pretty much a mirror image to the end of “Moral Melt.” So it turns those two songs into a nice little suite. Thanks for asking and noticing the discrepancy!Â

This is Anthony. Someone at my work painted the wall behind my receptionist desk a horrible shade of green. It’s, uh, real bad. But my coworker Ben decided to take advantage of the green screen.

An absolute honor and thrill to be a part of this incredible lineup. Celebrate “Harmlessness” with us in Connecticut.
No doubt in my mind, this will be an important day in my life
James wrote about The Island of Misfit Toys' new record, which is possibly the most anthemic record to come out this year.
“ I Made You Something is truly a work of art. To try to unpack the amount of content in this record would take pages – I’m nearing my twentieth listen and I’m still discovering new layers. It’s the kind of record that speaks for itself, and to try to do its complexity justice in a short review is asinine. Do yourself a favor and listen to this record so you can say you liked them before they got huge.” A 9/10 from funeralsounds, thank you SO much!
