I created this blog in 2011 under the name n-e-c-r-o-n-o-m-i-c-o-n. I was 12. Its content went from being preteen musings to angsty photos and posts to full on self mutilation, hate, and misery, all in black and white. At its peak, this blog had over 5,000 followers. That pains me, and going back and seeing my blog and what I wrote and posted back then pains me even more.
Tumblr is a breeding ground for unhealthy, destructive behavior that is SOMETIMES learned from other posters online. Tumblr can assist sad and insecure tweens and teens into trying to “control” their discomfort with who they are into the oh so dramatic and fulfilling life of cutting, starving, and abusing oneself. Nothing has made me more sick to my stomach than reading this and seeing my blog.
@staff, something needs to be done about the power Tumblr has and the content it can sometimes display. Tumblr can be a vehicle for young ones to establish bad habits that last a lifetime. Six years later, although a healthy, happy college student, I still think about some of the same things I used to. But this can be prevented. Self-harm and mutilation posts shouldn’t be allowed. Graphic suicidal posts should not be allowed. Protect our youth. THEY DON’T DESERVE THIS.
