(This is art from Monika Livingston, but yes, a lot of early furry art is inundated with racial stereotypes and other unsavory things. Just wanted to clarify this is not Ken's work (and while I wouldn't be shocked if he had similarly insensitive work in in catalog, I wouldn't want to assume it of one of the early fandom's most prominent artist of color))

Who are your favorite early furry artists?
So hard to choose, but I tried!
Ken Sample's work always stands out to me as spectacular. His experimentations with anthro anatomy are always so incredible and his inking style is unmistakable!

Monika Livingston also has really top notch anthro anatomy work, especially with facial variety.

Robert Hill is most known for his fursuit crafting, but I really like what I've seen of his illustrations as well. The way he adapts a disney-esc style is really unique combined with his pin-up work.

And rapid fire shout outs to Scott Alston, Terrie Smith, and Kjartan Arnorsson- I know there's so many more artists that are a treat to see every time that are just slipping my mind right now.

These artists are just at the top of my mind because I see their work pretty often, but one of my favorite part of this project is being introduced to new artists and hopefully finding more and more of their work as I expand the archives. Some other artists who I'd love to stumble across more are Cassidy Barret, Miss Mercy, Mary Hanson-Roberts, etc etc...

Some of these artists are still active today, but I've mainly seen their older work :D
One of the goals with the archive is for it to be easily searchable by keyword, which includes author/artist names! So if you find one artist you like, it should make it easier to seek out their other work <3 Also as you can probably tell I'm more partial to pin-up art than comics, writing, or other forms of illustration in the archive, so there's tons of other fantastic creators to explore on there!

For more than two and a half decades, the Internet Archive has collected, preserved, and shared our digital cultural artifacts. Thanks to the generosity of patrons (like you and me!), the Internet Archive has grown from a small preservation project into a vast library that serves millions of people each year. Its work has impacted the lives of so many users who value free and open access to information.
Archive.org is home to thousands of furry articles- from con books, con videos, art books, novels, podcasts, comics, news bulletins, zines, and much, much more.
Not only that, the Wayback Machine is the only place many of the fandom's digital gathering places are still accessible!

04/18/2025 @ Dragon's Den - A Furry Drag Show at Anthrohio!

This set concept was originally performed at Trauma, a Fetish event in Columbus, as part of the queer history themed Molly House drag show. It's a tribute to plushophilia and fetish's role in furry history! The outfit under the bodysuit was inspired by Hilda the Bamboid.
Originally, under the plush onesie was polyfil covered bodysuit, and the face (which was still a prosthetic) resembled a leather mask- but it turned out pretty sloppy. I want to bring it back more polished. In my defense, this was only my 5th or 6th time performing XD I'm grateful I'm getting so many early opportunities to perform my more out there ideas, but it also means I didn't quite have the experience to make them shine.
