@anti-hinata
*doesn’t like a character*
*doesn’t post character hate in the main character tag because I have fucking manners*
“you talk like a smart/pretentious person” actually I just forget simple words constantly and am forced to rummage through my brain for the nearest synonym, which is usually twice as long and needlessly specific
#see also: the exact feeling im trying to convey with my sentences doesnt get across the same way without that specific word
see also: i paid five-figures in university fees for my bachelors and masters so (1) you can bet your ass i’m going to make the most of it, and (2) i’m there numerous days a week and have been for years of my life, this is just how i speak now.
Naruto (1999 - 2014) ☆ 5 years today since the final chapter and I miss this boy!
this blog is a platform for critical analysis and a catalogue of similar content so i very rarely reblog fanart or edits and i’m not one to jump on such with a commentary but, looking at this, i just have to say that this is the naruto i love – the character i still remember fondly and feel nostalgia for. i try not to lose sight of everything i felt for this knucklehead ninja and his franchise when i visualise the series for what it tends to be most associated with now; i don’t want to reflect on something i truly adored only with the negative connections of its more recent years. as so many academics have stated anyway, fans and audiences in general are not passive consumers; it’s not only acceptable but necessary and expected for them to criticise depictions in media. but every now and again, i miss when naruto was just naruto; no sexist discourse from pierrot or otherwise. like, they actually did a good job at the animation here too! i know it’s a shippuden flashback but the original series (i.e. genin naruto) feels representative of something more; something so pure and wholesome, before any of the mess that followed with the studio and fandom’s spoliation. sure, the handling of it all may have opened my eyes to the wider audience and industry issues, which led me to study such and in turn develop my craft in critical discourse analysis at university but i just miss him, and i miss what this series meant to me before he embodied anything more than the cutie up-top.

I will never understand why people create whole ass fantasy worlds and still oppress women in those worlds.
Like, you can have dragons, but not basic respect for women? Boring. Tired. Basic and sexist.
Seriously props to Takahashi for refusing to give Kagome any panty shots and also forbidding the animators from doing it as well and they followed her wishes. She wanted to prevent her from being reduced to a fanservice character at all costs and just…yeah man.
Didn’t Naruto left the village the next day after he left with Jiraiya
Wait, what? I am not sure of the question you’re trying to make here... could you be a little more specific, please? I don’t want to misinterpret.
i think this is in reference to the latest arc in the boruto anime wherein he returns to the past, supposedly a day after sasuke leaves the village (if i’m recalling that right, from the bits and pieces i’ve seen discussed online), despite the continuity of that timeline and the characters’ plot dispositions at such distinct juncture surely proving that period to be entirely nonsensical for s/p’s delusional nostalgia trip. (why not just set it when sasuke is there, if you have to at all? jeez.)
the retrieval squad was formed the following morning after sasuke fled, leaving no interval for boruto’s marty mcfly adventure.
it was indeed implied that naruto left with jiraiya immediately after his recovery from his loss to sasuke at the valley of the end, meaning marto mcmaki couldn’t show up for some fanfic-esque time-travel antics then either.
if it does take place directly after sasuke leaves, then:
lee would still have his crutches.
ino’s hair would still be cut shorter (which they do appear to have rectified now in their most recent episode than in the photo-album shown prior).
sakura and naruto’s temperaments would be entirely different to that which is portrayed, not the iconic personalities of their active genin days when sasuke was present.
don’t worry, kid. they barely interacted outside of fillers like this anyway. you’d be more embarrassed for their severe lack of ‘panel-time’ over 15 years than studio pierrot’s pitiful retconning of this exaggerated, awkward “dynamic”.
...wha-? when? that never-? like, why would that-? 🤔 ugh, as sweet as this could be, studio pierrot have me rubbing my temples too much with this sort of stuff. 🙄
i mean, what is the point of this – of retconning any (supposedly pre-existing) substance between hinata and team 7; situating her amongst the main characters and all that it implies, and moreover with naruto in particular? let alone the audacity of it, when it was studio pierrot at the forefront of pitting these girls against each-other in their cavil, disputatious fillers all these years!
canon = two-decade-old established material, and this ain’t it. a friendship between all of them would’ve been cute, and (in-character) fluff can be appreciated by fans. but not when there is an underlying, surreptitious agenda attached – one that increasingly attempts to convince a mass and credulous audience, who aren’t aware that naruto and hinata’s entire canon interaction literally spans less than 1% of the manga, is any more than just that, performed by manipulating these compact retcons enough to impose a subconscious yet lasting effect that supports their narrative of their “significant” ship, which was actually built in its pervasive ubiquity on filler. and hey, i’m not just going off over this picture alone (i’m simply using it as an example; a jumping-off point) – i’m already exhausted of this upcoming contentious arc, which’ll probably be full of drivel like this, when it’s actually supposed to be nostalgic whimsy for fans, not a guise of such; obscuring veiled motives of advocacy for their bias. and that’s not even getting into their present-day filler scenes of naru/hina’s ostensible and reputed domestic life, contradicted and discredited in kishimoto’s material.
I’m so glad to see you’re back❤️
thank you, anon! 😁 i’m glad to be back, and hoping to stay at least semi-active as i continue my studies this time. 😅 seeing an inbox notification for this blog pop up and wondering as i click onto it whether it’ll be harassment or support is always a flip of a (slightly weighted towards the positive latter) coin, so reading your welcoming message was one of those simple pleasures! ❤️
i have 150+ asks so i promise i’ll get around to them all and thank you everyone so much for your words of praise, encouragement, advocation and your own critical analysis too, as well as insightful questions and discussions! i’ve been skim-reading and i love doing so! please don’t feel disheartened if i don’t reply right away, my ask-box is always open (lbh, no-one would do a master’s degree if they weren’t a nerd for academic scrutinisation so keep ‘em coming 😜).
took a hiatus from tumblr to graduate university and begin pursuing my master’s... and sakura is still the most useful, strongest and overall – objectively; in canon – best kunoichi in naruto. 😌
bias: canon vs not 🚫
sakura:
hinata:
funnily enough, sakura looks better in sp versions. and why are yall using a rough sketch with hinata but a more defined line art of sakura for kishis depiction. but yeah stay mad at breast sizes. rough sketch or not hina still the goat cuz her fans can actually relate to her on a personal level.
so... you just deliberately didn’t reblog the explanation behind the chosen images in a desperate attempt to debunk the matter at hand by clinging solely onto that trivial element? oh, wait, of course you didn’t reblog that addition – which challenges your frail, ridiculous argument – because you stalked the ‘anti hinata’ tags, hence your reblog directly from me and my original post. i mean, come on, it isn’t even a case of idiocy that hinata fans haven’t figured out simple blacklisting; they purposely choose not to in weak attempts at harassment and a chance at throwing their toys over a two-and-a-half-year-old post.
———
here’s the response from the update you either [ a ] purposely chose not to reblog from so that your argument could actually appear to hold any strength and fit the confirmation bias of the sheep who follow you, or [ b ] did not necessarily ignore but simply rather missed due to becoming instantly offended and enraged enough to reply (to an appropriately tagged post) when stalking ‘anti’ tags of your own volition:
“one is official art and the other is just a sketch!” it isn’t a comparison of the level of detail in kishimoto’s depictions, obviously they’re different… the chosen images are mere examples showcasing the severe bias that s/p have in arrogantly defying canon, solely because of their partiality. these pictures highlight how they undermine sakura and (/to) emphasise hinata, despite their given source material, which they’re supposed to directly and accurately reference.
the chosen images [of hinata] are actually on consecutive pages of damn official guidebook, directly showing the two designs in relation to one another; highlighting their differences.
it isn’t a direct comparison of the girls themselves, fgs. it’s exposing s/p’s favouritism and sexism; knowing that exploiting conventionally attractive traits – such as large breasts and “feminine” qualities – are features more likely desired. as such, an audience – especially a young male demographic (shonen’s target market) – would evidently be much more inclined to like that character.
[in relation to your comment reducing this issue merely to chest size:] whilst i do have an issue with her wardrobe [in s/p’s rendition, which particularly accents her chest] essentially acting as exploitation of her character through sexist marketing strategy (particularly due to defying the previous databook entries regarding her style), her clothes [moreover, her accentuated chest size, in this argument particularly since you want to focus on that] aren’t exactly the issue i’m stressing here – rather it’s s/p’s modification of kishi’s design to sexualise her. ↳ see a further explanation here!
———
as stated many times previously, the issue goes deeper than chest size – especially such in shonen – and you know that, so do not patronise the issue.
this isn’t about tit measuring* and you’re much more aware of that than you let on. don’t act oblivious to strengthen an argument based in sexism. * alike to ‘dick measuring’: in which these fictional women are forced to compete over a superficial characteristic that a male-dominated society (and, as such, industry) has deemed important, in order to demonstrate their supposed worthiness, power and overall superiority status.
“funnily enough, sakura looks better in sp versions.”
don’t do that. you don’t care about sakura... a quick look at your blog showcases that. you don’t think she looks conventionally – i.e. genuinely – “better” in s/p’s version because you wouldn’t argue over the comparison in the first place if you did. you think that she looks better because she looks worse; which you personally prefer, as that is your bias since you dislike her and/or like hinata more, therefore – due to patriarchal brainwashing out of your control regarding comparisons deemed preferable by straight men – you want her to appear superior by said superficial means of conventional attractiveness. contrary to that subconscious and man-made belief, that is not a female character’s only worth. and highlighting studio pierrot’s bias in perpetuating that ideology is the exact point of this original post.
———
again from the explanatory addition:
[it doesn’t matter if you personally like sakura’s animated rendition, it doesn’t matter because:] sakura’s animated rendition is plain disrespectful. it is not what the mangaka had in mind and is not true to the character, especially when it is only done/purposely deteriorated with intent to ridicule her; all to make her less appealing than hinata. they intentionally reduce her chest size, and have done so since part two began. now please pay attention here, as this is the only reason why an argument regarding chest size actually matters:
( a ) they then they make fillers body-shaming her, mocking her – brainwashing viewers with the ideology that this is to be undesired, which goes without saying is a very backward and damaging mindset. ( b ) they consistently compare her “undesirable” attributes negatively with hinata, glorifying her with filler (through contrasting “desirable” ones).
it is only worth bringing up said argument to dismantle the misogynistic discourse and wider social issue attached, not to further it by supporting it (/those responsible by arguing for their end product).
———
i personally don’t know how someone can relate to a male-written, entirely one-dimensional female character who featured in canon less than 1% of the manga (since ‘naruto’ has about 12,500 pages on average and hinata was depicted on something as low as 100 of them). but if you mean fanon hinata – the studio pierrot version you’re so familiar with – wait, no, i still don’t understand relating to a character void of her great potential by blatant misogyny in the form of objectification.
“the bias is there, and s/p’s sexist discourse attached to such is the issue… along with them just, you know, being terrible animators not doing their damn job.”
i had to very briefly come off hiatus to show you guys the best thing i saw on twitter today
sasu/saku looking at each-other:
