Sorry but just because something isn't listed in the DSM or ICD currently doesn't mean it's "totally made up". It typically means it isn't studied enough. There are many many many things that weren't officially recognized as disorders until very recently. Scientifically the word "addiction" usually refers to substance use, which also used to not be seen as an addiction or disorder in general.
Yes I do get the unfortunate fact that politics and religion have their hands in so much that no one trusts anything anymore, even by professional institutes. Which is why sometimes we have to have do what was done for decades, point out the obvious and stop allowing rich corporations tell us "don't worry kids, the ice cream with 50 ingredients is perfectly natural and just as healthy as veggies!" Like they keep trying to do.
There are an insane amount of people who literally cannot stop consuming porn, to the point of even losing homes because they spent so much money on it. There are people who spend over 10 hours viewing porn in a single sitting EVERY DAY, and even people who become violent when they feel they don't have access to it. There are people who refuse to even leave their house or room for months just to watch it from morning to night (I sadly know someone personally like this).
Addictive behavior in general is a very real thing, and the DSM doesn't currently recognize this outside of gambling addiction. Another thing that used to be classified as "normal". There are neurological studies showing that pornography can alter mind sets and create addictive and dangerous behaviors. Or that being exposed to it too young has severe psychological effects. It will change in time.
Remember when science claimed Marijuana isn't an addictive substance? Or cigarettes are completely healthy? Or tons of added sugar and hyper processed foods have no ill health effects? Or that child abuse supposedly is less harmful if committed by a female perpetrator? (Yes this is a real thing some professionals tried to say despite research showing otherwise). Guess what things are all listed as such now? I could go on about this topic of infighting among psych professionals... Literally any behavior can become as addictive as drugs, why is porn addiction the only one people are so hell bent on claiming is normal? In some years I guarantee it absolutely will be officially listed.
I won't even mention the "institute" by name because of how sick they are, but many people probably get what I'm talking about. THAT one in Germany...that conducted a horrific experiment because they were convinced that shit is "okay" and "easily fixable". And people were rooting for them too...
The problem is things like pornography, drugs, alcohol and stuff is SO forced into every aspect of society that most people don't even see those things as problems or even potential problems. Drugs in particular...people act like hearing teens admit to "trying" illicit drugs is "funny" or "just kids being kids". It isn't, it's genuinely that big of an issue.
It was obvious before it was ever officially recognized. Everyone can see it but the addicts themselves. That is why there is such a huge push to normalize these behaviors. Money and self validation.
I'm not saying all people who watch porn are addicts, or there is a moral issue with it as a whole (Personally I hate it but that's irrelevant). Most people will watch it just like most people will look at food videos/images. But just like food addictions (which is also a real thing btw), the issue is when obsession sets in. Same with everything. You can develop this problem with just about anything.
I think that's another reason people don't research this topic much, because some people just shout "porn addict" or "gooner" over literally anything.
Libido and attraction is normal. Compulsive behaviors isn't. Abuse isn't. Not being able to enjoy ANY media without porn isn't. Zoo/P*do and other type of shit isn't, and just about all science agrees on this one.
