good art is when something looks like real life, the more real it looks the more better the art. abstracted figures give my trad children nightmares, one time they were exposed to cubism and couldn't go outside for a week

How dare they call Eric Carle's art ugly?!??! All my students are obsessed with his books, as am I, I am the biggest Eric Carle stan and love how simple, yet meaningful his books are to children. I have never seen so many kids into one particular author, but pretty much one hundred percent of my students like his books. Do you know how hard it is to do that? To get pre-schoolers of varying energy and focus levels and developmental levels to love a book? The man was a true artist and his books give so much to children. He really got children. That boring ass book "A Butterfly is Patient" will be forgotten the moment the cover closes!

Wtf!! Eric Carle is so special to me that I continue to hang his art in my home at 34 years old. When I was in elementary school I sent him a letter telling him how much I loved his books. His people sent me back a packet in the mail of fun collaging supplies with a personalized letter! I feel so grateful to live in the city where he grew up because I get to imagine walking the same sidewalks getting creatively inspired by bugs together. The hungry caterpillar is beautiful meaningful art.

I invite you to reflect on the transition underway between the year of the snake (2025) and year of the horse (2026). The snake represents the shedding of skin you have outgrown, old patterns that have defined your contact with the world around you. Looking at the spent, sparkling skin- ask yourself, what lessons did I learn from 2025? What old patterns do I want to leave behind? This outgrown skin has a lot to teach us. Then consider the fire horse galloping in another direction, representing moving with intention in 2026. Where is the horse heading? How does the horse move? What motivates them?
