*pinches Naoki's cheeks*
âW-what are you doing!? Leave me alone!â
"There's my birthday boy~" Maria called in a sing-song voice, scooping her youngest into her arms and kissing his cheeks. She spent the most of the week looking for the right present for Naoki, but luck would have it that victory would come yesterday in the shopping district. "Mama hit the lottery jackpot when she was shopping yesterday, and guess what?" Gently asking her son to close his eyes, she placed two tickets to the upcoming basketball game in his hands. "You won the first place prize!"
As soon as Mariaâs strong arms scooped him up, Naoki started squirming in them, the young boy trying to break free from her grasp. âPut me down, old lady!â He protested, trying fruitlessly to push against Mariaâs arms- but there was no way the strength of a six year old boy could compete with that of a trained martial artist.
âCanât you just give me my present like a normal person? I donât like it when youâre all clingy!â Even though he huffed in protest, surrendering himself to Mariaâs cuddles, he didnât honestly seem all that upset.
And of course, any other protests he might have died out in his throat when she placed the tickets in his hand. His eyes lit up, and a huge smile appeared on his face. âA-amazing! Are these really for me? Mama, thank you!â
"Naoki-kun!" Hime scurried over to the birthday boy, a smile on her face as she offered him a sloppily decorated box. Obviously the wrapping was done by the Princess herself, given how she was still a novice in the art of gift wrap... but she wanted to try her best here. "Tamako-chan told me it was your birthday, so I hope you enjoy every piece of it." Within the contents of the box would be imported dark chocolates from a foreign country: a Shirayuki Hime specialty. "Happy birthday, Naoki-kun~"
The way Naokiâs eyes lit up at the mere sound of his voice on Himeâs voice, it was completely obvious to guess how the redhead felt about her. âH-Hime!â Stammering out her name, he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, growing embarrassed that the Princess of the Blue Sky kingdom had gone out of her way to give him a present for his birthday.
âYou didnât have to get something for me, Hime... but Iâll accept it gratefully nonetheless.â Sheepishly taking the box from her, he carefully unwrapped, battling against far too much tape. Finally, the present came free, and he looked it over in his hands, reading the label. It was true that he had gotten Seijiâs English skills, but this wasnât English... foreign chocolates, though?
âU-um, since itâs H-Halloween and all, w-would you like to have some with me, Hime?â
"Oi, bratty little Birthday Boy!" Tamako called out to her brother, her face scrunched up due to distaste and embarrassment. She hadn't expected to have to do this, especially since there was a chance Naoki was going to make fun of her. "Here! The team chipped in to get you... a Team Captain's jacket." Embroidered on the back was not only Naoki's name, but the endearing title of "Pikarigaoka's Demon Coach"... and despite Tamako's denial of having any involvement with this, it was /all/ her idea.
âWhat is it, bratty little shrimp?â Naoki made an equally displeased face on hearing the voice of his older sister on this day of his birth celebration (if not his actual birth), folding his arms tight in front of his chest in response.
Todayâs Tamako looked a little more annoyed than usual- did she really hate celebrating other peopleâs birthdays that much? Well, that should figure, given this spoiled little princessâ nature... but whatever, it wasnât like it bothered him or anything. He wasnât even really expecting a present or anything like that from her.
So needless to say, it took him a little by surprise when it turned out that she did have one, and it briefly showed on his face. Quickly coughing into his hand to cover it, he dimly accepted the jacket from Tamako. For a second, warm feelings seemed to well up inside of his chest- until he saw the title embroidered on the jacket.
â...Say, exactly whose idea was this?â He asked, a frightening look appearing on his face, suited for this day of Halloween. âIâd like to be told in explicit detail.â
"H-Happy birthday," Tsubasa hesitantly approached Naoki. Although he wasn't her favorite person in the world, she still felt obligated to wish him a happy birthday. It would be rude not to.
âWho are you?â
Naoki blurted out the words without thinking about- he totally didnât recognize this girl, after all, even though she apparently knew enough about him to know it was his birthday today. âThanks, I guess?â

Weak or not, Swan would fight her hardest. She didnât want to be trapped in a mirror! People would miss her if she were to disappear suddenly. But, she accepted something like that would happen when she became a Precure.
At Knightâs remark, she immediately jumped backwards, hoping to avoid whatever he was about to try. She landed just barely out of the area Knight was affecting. That was close. She had thought Knight was about to trip her when he asked if she could even stand up.
"Youâre⌠Cure Knight, if Iâm not mistaken,â Swan said as she remembered seeing him once on Precure Weekly. As a general of the Phantom Empire, it was inevitable that he showed up on there at least once.
âOh, so youâve heard of me after all.â Knight flashed a wide grin at her. âI would say Iâm honored, but Iâm not really!â
His grin only grew wider, warping into something wicked, as he rushed forward towards her, closing the gap she had created between the two of them. Taking a strong stance in front of her, he pushed his hand outwards, sending a powerful wave of repelling gravity out from it.
âHave fun flying away, Birdie!â

PRECUREHELPERSEIJI SAID: âY-YOU KNOW, B-BECAUSE YOUâRE AN ANGELâŚ?â NAOKI STAMMERED, HIS FACE TURNING AN INCREASINGLY DARKER SHADE OF RED AS HE SPOKE. AT LEAST HE HAD THOUGHT HE WAS BEING CLEVER.
âAn angel, huh?â
Hime giggled, an amused smile growing along her lips as she got a good look at Naokiâs reddening face. To see him embarrassed was a rare occurrence within itself, and the Princess couldnât deny how his adorableness level skyrocketed whenever he switched into that side of himself. How cute~
âYouâre too sweet to me, Naoki-kun! Didja know that?âÂ
Ah crap.
He had meant the line to make Hime flustered, to perhaps sweep her off her feet, to charm her... he hadnât expected that he would be the one getting charmed!
Momentarily at a loss for words, the redhead gaped, before swallowing, trying to steady the pounding of his heart.
âW-well, I-Iâm just saying it cause itâs true! Youâre pretty and elegant and gentle just like an angel after all...â
lovelyrising:
âCreated to destroy⌠Seiji?â
[Megumi just froze, grabbing for her Prechange Mirror in her pocket. She thought peace was restored in Pikarigaoka but she guessed she was wrong.]
âI wonât let you hurt Seiji!â [She said angrily. As if being brainwashed by a resentful god wasnât enough. She fished out the Mirror and the Lovely Precards.] âYou have to get through me first, Naoki-kun!â
âPrecure Rolling Mirror Change!â
âYou didnât hear about it? Well, not that Iâm surprised he wouldnât say anything to you. Heâs that type, after all.â Rubbing the back of his neck, Naoki smirked as Megumi wasted no time in pulling out her Prechange Mirror, excitement at the potential fight glistening in his eyes.
Ah, but, as exciting as the chance to fight against Cure Lovely, who had fought god in space and won was- in the end, he wasnât doing that sort of thing anymore. He had really only been intending to taunt her and see how she reacted, not to actually fight her.
So-
âAh, but thatâs in the past, you know. Iâve put that sort of thing beside me.â Naoki said easily, flashing the girl a quick grin that was all to reminiscent of Seijiâs own. âBut, if you really want to duke it out, I would be more than happy to oblige you, Cure Lovely! Sounds fun!â
lovelyrising:
[Megumi just⌠blinks at the new guy. He sure looks familiar⌠Wait, is thatâ]
âSeiji? Why do you look like that? Did I miss a memo or something? Nice hair, though! I really like it! You should teach me how to dye my hair sometime!â
At being mistaken for that guy of all people- no matter how much he looked like him, Naoki twitched. He already understood how this girl usually acted through the originalâs memories, but actually speaking to her in person... somehow, he was already really annoyed.
âAre you dense?â Naoki arched an eyebrow, trying to play off his irritation for a moment. âIâm not Sagara Seiji. Iâm a lot better than that guy, after all!â
âSeriously, youâre annoying. Did you even listen to anything I said when I was talking to you? Iâm Naoki, Kato Naoki. I was created to destroy that guy... yes, that Sagara Seiji you hold dear, Cure Lovely.â
lovelyrising
âWere you asking after me, perhaps? Youâre the rumored Cure Lovely, arenât you? You donât really look all that strong though... I donât understand what that guy sees in you at all.â
graceful-cure-swan:
Swan let out a sigh. So she had a reputation. She wouldnât let that get to her, though. Weakest Precure or not, it wasnât like she truly wanted to fight Cure Knight. It was either this or being attacked in civilian form after a failed mirror sealing.
âYouâre a Phantom Empire general? I wouldnât be so quick to judge if I were you.â Swan kept her expression serious in order to hide her true feelings. The battle that was about to start was definitely going to be tough. It was probably best to stay on the defensive. She didnât know what would happen to her if she were to be defeated here.
The blonde Precure got into a fighting stance. She watched Knight intently, ready to counter his attacks at the nearest opportunity.
âWhatâs obvious is obvious.â Knight said, waving a dismissive hand. Well, he wasnât exactly about to let his guard down just because he thought she was weak, but he didnât really expect her to give him much of a fight either. âI know martial arts, after all. I can tell when a person is weak or strong.â
âI mean, after all...â Knightâs grin twisted, turning considerably more vicious. âCan you even stand up?â
Slamming a foot on the ground, a wave of heavy gravity pulsed from it, effecting the local area around the dark cure.
Chou had somewhat expected her younger brother to explode like that, if truth be told. She hadnât exactly intended to push his buttons, but he was always on edge after losing a match. Usually sheâd have held her tongue, but this time her curiosity had gotten the best of her - and now that she had started questioning him she might as well keep at it, at least until Naoki gave a decent answer.
âItâs not something I understand?â She echoed, furrowing a brow. âIndeed, thatâs true. Iâm on equal footing with Hikawa, but youâre supposedly on the same level as Sagara-kun - and he wins against Hikawa often enough, yet you can hardly score a victory against me and youâre going for the dojo acesâŚâ Chou shook her head, as if to say âyouâre hopelessâ. âI wouldnât ask for your reasons if I could understand them, brat. I can only guess - are you trying to look cool? Ah, if thatâs the case, itâs of course backfiring, so perhapsâŚâ
âCould it be that youâre upset because Sagara-kun is better than you?â
Now she was most definitely pushing Naokiâs buttons on purpose.
âHeâs not better than me!â
Naokiâs fury surged through him like a wave, anger practically rolling off the young boy. âThereâs no way that guy is better than me! We have the exact same skill set, and if it comes to physical strength, Iâm definitely stronger than him!â
But perhaps the real reason Chouâs words made him so angry was because he knew it was true. As much as he hated to admit it, Seiji was better than him- even if they had the exact same moves, heâd never been able to beat him, much less anyone else.
He prided himself on being the strongest of the dark cures when it came to physical combat, but he had never once won a match, not even against Chou. It didnât make any sense!
âChallenging an enemy stronger than you can help you increase your skill faster! I thought everyone knew that, but apparently not!â
It was a lie, of course, but honestly, Naoki didnât understand why he kept challenging Maria and the master like he did.

Tsubasa took a step back as Naoki revealed himself as Cure Knight. He looked a lot like Cure Noble. And Naoki looked a bit like SeijiâŚ
She would have to talk to Seiji later about this. Right now, she had to worry about the boy in front of her. Since he mentioned turning her into a Saiark, he must have been a Phantom Empire general. She was admittedly scared of fighting a general directly, but she had no choice. If she didnât transform, he would surely attempt to trap her in a mirror to create a monster. When it didnât work, her status as a Precure would become obvious anyway.
Tsubasa retrieved her PreChan Mirror from her bag, holding it so her opponent would see it. âI will not let you hurt Sagara-san or anyone else!â
âPretty Cure Rolling Mirror Change!â With a flash of bright light, Tsubasa transformed. âThe wings of grace flying high! Cure Swan!â
âOh, so youâre a Precure, huh?â Knightâs grin only widened at this revelation, a twinkle of something malicious surfacing in his eyes. That certainly got his blood boiling more than the prospect of just turning her into a Saiark.
He had heard of Cure Swan, of course. She was the other Precure in Pikarigaoka, but she was much weaker than the Happiness Charge Precure team. Compared to them, she was nothing.
Still, a fight was a fight, and he would take it seriously, without underestimating her.
âThatâs all the more interesting! The weakest Precure in Pikarigaoka wants to fight me! What a laugh!â
So, Naoki! Your opinions on each of your sisters, and parents for that matter?
âOut of all the possible questions you could have asked me, you have to ask me about that lot?â
Naoki heaved a sigh, holding his arms in front of his chest. âBesides, I certainly hope by âparentsâ, plural, you arenât assuming that I think of that old lady, Maria, as a mother, because I definitely donât. Sheâs a serious pain in the ass, super annoying! Thereâs nothing at all good about her!â
âDadâs a huge crybaby. I used to think he was kind of cool, but then he turned out to have that kind of personality. And Tamako is just as much of a crybaby, sheâs a total baby, in fact! I seriously canât believe that shrimp is supposed to be older than me, when she acts like a total brat!â
âAhhhh and Mayu and Chou are so annoying as well.â Naoki heaved another irritated sigh. âMayu is always so high energy and is always racing around, doing this and that. And Chou is always such a bore! And when sheâs not a bore, sheâs grump!â
âThe only decent one of the lot is Wakana. I can at least talk to her about things like cooking, but otherwise, the whole lot of them is super annoying!â
âBut, well...â Naoki trailed off a little rubbing the back of his head. âI guess I wouldnât want to see any of them get hurt at least. But donât get the wrong idea! I just donât want to deal with that sort of thing, thatâs all, itâs not like Iâm worried about them or would miss them or anything like that.â
The red tint of his cheeks belied the young boyâs true emotions.
âOne can only wonder why youâre so popular at school!â She rolled her eyes in response, forever stumped by the reality of her younger brotherâs popularity. Tamako would never forget the first time one of their classmates had asked if she knew anything about Naokiâs stance on dating⌠let alone if he was looking for a girlfriend any time soon. As if sheâd know anything about that, and just the thought of him bringing someone home for the family to meet was enough to boil her blood. In no way was he going to get a date before herâthatâs not how the world worked, and she wouldnât allow it! âItâs a fluke, in my opinion.â
Why would anyone find that brat attractive?!Â
Not only did he spend most of their childhood teasing her every step of the way, but his mouth was foul enough to get put in a time out constantly!
âIâll distract you all I want, besides thereâs a commercial on so you didnât miss any vital scoring or shots⌠relax, worrywart.â If she wanted to, Tamako could have made a dive for the remote right then and there, but once again, she kept her parents clear in mind. A fight wasnât worth the consequences.Â
âAnd you didnât have to hear anything about my dibs on the TV yesterday.â Shrugging dramatically, she tossed her ponytail over her shoulder. âWhy would I have to tell someone like you about things like that? Oh right, I donât.âÂ
âOf course Iâm popular because Iâm amazing, obviously!â Naoki narrowed his eyes, sounding quite confident in his own words. He did indeed, think of himself as being pretty impressive- and honestly, he wasnât wrong. As if being the captain of the basketball team wasnât enough, he was also good looking and smart, making good grades to his sisterâs shock. There was no reason why he wouldnât be popular.
âItâs not a fluke! If anythingâs a fluke, Tamako, itâs your popularity!â He insisted, a smug grin appearing on his face. âI mean, whatâs so attractive about a tiny little runt who spends all of her time crying over a dumb cartoon cat? The boys in your fan club obviously donât know about what a big baby you are.â
âAnd if I didnât hear anything about your stupid TV dibs they donât count! If youâre going to declare dibs on something you have to tell people about it, otherwise it totally doesnât count!â Pointing accusingly at Tamako, a triumphant look appeared on Naokiâs face. âBesides, youâre too short to get the remote control from me anyways, shrimp.â
