I hate people say that DCEU superman is too cynical and too gritty/dark
I’m sorry but did you not see how he went out and bought Lois flowers, and the huge smile on his face when he told her he was fixing dinner for her.
Or how he jumped in the bathtub with her?
Or how he chose to go save a little girl from a burning building, instead of choosing to investigate Bruce even further, and the smile on his face when he was carrying her out of the building.
Or how he was the one Lex couldn’t manipulate. He even refused to kill Bruce even after he discovered that Lex had his mother- killing batman was always his last resort.
Or how he put himself between Lex and Doomsday, and stopped Doomsday from killing Lex even though Lex kidnapped Martha and wanted him dead.
Or how he, idk, died for the entire world because he loves this world- his world- so much, and he loves the people inhabit- even if people aren’t ready to love him yet.
Clark was not cynical or dark. He was in pain. He just wanted to do good and people were telling him that he didn’t belong on the only world he’s ever known.
He’s not dark or edgy, he’s just human. Soulful and prone to issues of the heart. Why is that so hard to understand?

Superman Through The Years
Man of Steel: A Response to the Critics.
“He was convinced that the world wasn’t ready. What do you think?”
After seeing Man of Steel a second time last weekend, I can say without question it was not only a fantastic film, but that I also think it has passed TDKR as my favorite hero film. But the majority of the internet- including the professional cynics- still seem to be commenting on a different film entirely. Because watching with an eye to details, I can take down about 90 percent of the complaints I’m seeing. Any honest critic could have done the same, but they aren’t. And I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason why not is that some people are badmouthing this film for its political and social content.
In my essay, I said that Man of Steel finally made me believe in the ideals of Superman, in large part because this isn’t the take on the character we’ve seen before. And I don’t think the fact people are uncomfortable with that has much to do with nostalgia for a campy film made before Henry Cavill was born. Some people don’t want a Superman who is rugged instead of geeky, or who wears underwear correctly, or who makes serious decisions about saving the world without stopping for cats in trees. Because that Superman, the one who finally looks super-powered, isn’t easy to mock. Now here’s the radical thing Man of Steel accomplished:
When Superman feels serious and real, so do his ideals.
This film’s real world but idealistic Superman takes down a surveillance drone on screens days after a whistle-blower has to flee the country for revealing government domestic spying. Suddenly the American Way came to life, and criticism of the government didn’t get you labeled as a conspiracy nut anymore, because Superman was on your side. Suddenly the effects of government’s lack of trust in all of us felt real because it was Lois Lane and Superman sitting in military custody. People began discussing the gospel story across the pop culture landscape because Superman walked into a church. Fangirls started falling for a positive version of masculinity that respects women. And for the first time, a small town on screen looked something like actual American small towns of the last 30 years, although with even fewer corporate logos than reality. Then someone replaced Obama’s “Hope” campaign poster with Superman, and it went viral. So when I see media editorials trying to backpedal the political endorsements they made less than a year ago while their movie reviewers are making incoherent, contradictory claims about Man of Steel, I’m seeing a larger cultural and political conversation some people simply weren’t ready for.
So to stop us from considering the revolutionary idealism just offered by culture’s most famous icon, the discussion has been deliberately derailed by two main complaints. I’m going to dismiss them both in the hope that we can then move on to talk about the awesomeness of Man of Steel and its message. Let’s detail why the damage blamed on Superman is inaccurate, and why he wouldn’t and doesn’t murder anyone in Man of Steel. Yes, you read that correctly.

This is beautiful, and so relevant, and I will never stop defending this movie and loving others who love it as much as I do...

How did you find out? When I touched the Flash the other night, I felt a jolt of electricity. The only time I’ve ever felt anything like that was when you were in a coma.
