All non-black fans need to self-police for racism when being fans of or producing fan content for black characters like Lúcio, Gabriel, Baptiste and Akande.

All fans who are not Latinx need to self-police for racism when being fans of or producing fan content for Latinx characters like Gabriel and Sombra.

All fans who are not Japanese need to self-police for racism when being fans of or producing fan content for Japanese characters like Hanzo and Genji.

All fans who are not Korean need to self-police for racism when being fans of or producing fan content for Korean characters like D.Va.

All fans who are not brown need to self-police for racism when being fans of or producing fan content for brown characters.

This especially goes if you’re going to be creating NSFW content, because sexuality is a site of oppression and racialized trauma for all POC.

If you are not confident in your ability to not produce racist content, then you need to not be producing content at all.

Fans of color see the way privileged cishet white dude nerds act and think, “It’s appalling that anyone feels like it’s okay to act like that.”

That’s the difference between white fans and fans of color, and it’s why all white fans make fandom worse by participating in it.
