oh shit. Grantaire as Icarus.
someone who knows the risks of what heās doing but gets so caught up in the warmth of the sun that he forgets just long enough to get himself killed.
an Icarus who looks at the sun like this with a golden reflection in his eyes just before he falls.
ok, coming back to this post-barricade day when Iāve had time to think about it.
āEnjolras is the sunā has been done a million times but thereās good reason for it. he brought Grantaireās world into sharp, beautiful focus - too bright, at times, but once youāve seen something like that you never want to go back.
I wrote a poem once about how the moment before he fell would likely have been the happiest Icarus had ever been, finally feeling the sunās warmth on his skin after years trapped in darkness. and whatās the last thing Grantaire feels before he falls at Enjolrasā feet? his own sun. Grantaire takes the leap, reaches into the light, and is rewarded with the euphoria of his sunās warmth on his hand before it all comes crashing down.
now Iām done, I promise.
