the look she gives her companion is EXASPERATED at best; frustrated, if she doesn’t care to curb the force of her emotions. angry men with big guns don’t need to hide, not in a place like this, not where there’s no one to answer to. but lara has little intentions to waste her time arguing and perhaps her frustration lies in the smallest curl of ENVY in the pit of her stomach. to maintain such an OPTIMISTIC view; lara’s a little beyond that point, now, and she’s not sure if it’s for the better. lara moves with practiced silence, glancing occasionally at mason just to assure herself the photographer remains out of view. head cants at her observation, corner of her lips quirked minutely; lara might not agree with her perhaps it might be a bit mean to call it NAIVETY- but she’s relieved mason’s got a good head on her shoulders. lara assumes she has to, considering her line of work. ❝ you’re right. we’ll need to draw their attention elsewhere.❞ a quick sweep of her surroundings; a sizeable chunk of concrete, sitting enticingly within reach. ❝ be ready to move. fast. ❞ this had been so much easier to do when lara was ALONE; she’ll have to trust in mason’s speed, as much as mason seems to trust lara with her survival. fingers curl around the piece; she takes only a moment to aim before the debris is launched towards barrel in the distance, clashing loudly against the metal. a handful of the armed men move towards the noise, and lara takes that opportunity to snatch the medical kit from the crate. ❝ go, now! ❞ her command is released in a harsh hiss, hands closing around mason’s arm to pull her away before the men could turn towards them.
mason frowns at the facial expression that was featured on her guide. it was not her fault that she didn’t know things, she was going to die out here without lara and she wasn’t really in the mood to die all that quickly. she still believed in the world and she believed that there was good left, even if you had to dig deep into the person to see that. maybe they weren’t running around with guns attempting to hurt others. she knew that there were wolves in the woods, and there were animals that wouldn’t even hesitate to tear you limb from limb because, so maybe there was not an evil intention behind those guns. maybe lara is just too sensitive, too angry, and too jaded from the long adventures.
mason was staying out of view, she did know how not to be noticed, and not to be killed. she was hopeful, and she liked to believe that they didn’t want to hurt anyone, but she was not stupid enough to run straight into a camp of people that she didn’t know. also she didn’t want to lose lara, no matter what happened mason did not want to be alone in the wilderness, it was not safe, and she didn’t want to be alone.
“yes...do you have an idea of how to do that?” mason asked. she looked around as she saw lara do that. when lara told her to get ready to run, mason nodded, and prepped herself to go. she followed lara’s eye line to see something, a chunk of concrete, something that could be easily thrown, that would make a large noise.
as mason heard the noise and the hissed words she dashed forward to grab the metal case, she wasn’t sure that she’d been able to get this without notice, but she still ran back to lara with the metal case. only looking back once she felt that she was hidden well enough in the shadows, the men with guns didn’t seem to notice her, but they didn’t seem that cool either. they were no longer just wandering around the camp, they seemed to be up and walking, they seemed to be looking for the source of the noise, and the source of the concrete. mason whispered “shouldn’t we get moving....like now?”
