how or why, he is not sure, but the little ones have returned to his island once more- each time, it ends in disaster, so he is confused as to why they decide again and again to come here and wet the dirt with their blood among the other denizens of the kingdom, but what mettle he has over them is little until they are already here, so he simply submits to their presence now and again and keeps his distance most of the time.
this time, however, he senses their coming and, with nothing more to do (his Kingâs duties few and far between as the skull-crawlers slumber below the island, their skull-king, skull-devil, killed) he goes to them, lumbering across the island at a slow lope until they have come into his sight- he comes in peace for the moment, unless they choose to begin setting off those thunder-fires that some of the small ones did ages ago.
they are so similar to him and yet so different- it makes him keenly curious, and he plants a hand against a rock ledge and kneels, pressing his wide knees into the ground where clearings make room for him, and watches, brown eyes focused.
The air is still at their outpost. Simple tents are erected around armored vehicles, militiamen checking their weapons and the other researchers taking quick notes and running the usual tests. This isnât the first expedition to Skull Island, and it wonât be the last. After the disastrous 70âČs expedition, Monarch set up new regulations for these sorts of field trips. The soldiers were properly briefed and trained, but they were an internal security detail. Theyâre here to protect the scientists and nothing more.Â
Their mission is entirely scientific. There wonât be any grand fights here, except those by the local fauna.
Heading the trip is Doctor Graham. As the party sets of the living arrangements, sheâs gone scouting. Itâs still surreal, seeing the island she wrote her unofficial thesis on. Lewis Carrol couldnât even concoct a world this strange and surreal, and as Alice wanders through wonderland the sounds of footsteps approaching stops her in her tracks. Kong. Frozen in a mix of fear and awe, she dares not move as he approaches. Heâs observing, as is she. Perhaps sheâs a fool, if there was any doubt, but she moves into the clearing. A camera in hand, she snaps a few shots, each second inching ever closer to the titan.
