i've been thinking about ethel cain's song "housofpsychoticwomn" and the film "obsession" and how they're similar in some ways. i see "housofpsychoticwomn" as a deep desire for love, and questioning if that love was ever real in the end. at the end of the movie, after bear kills himself, the real nikki slips through, and she never loved bear. it was only the alternate version of her that loved him. none of it was ever real.
the woman in "housofpsychoticwomn" is labeled as the one who is too obsessive. the one who stalks, chases, and refuses to stop. just like the alternate version of nikki. it's easy to label the alternate version of nikki as the psycho, when it was bear all along. he took away her ability to control herself because he had an obsessive desire to be loved. bear is the real psycho, and he was the one who stalked, chased, and refused to stop. bear is the pervert.
the night after the storm (tempest)
the storm wilding itself into my brain.
trains in my system only came back to watch me writhe.
wheels against the tracks.
underneath my skin.
you only came back around to watch me burn.
and i still punish myself for it.
forever.
i'm always alone.
the tempest is real.
and he hurts me.
