A nail an inch for 56 feet
Painting done now just final assembly
Painting season....after this I just have to put it all together
Carpentry is complete, now I have a day of prep work and a week of painting
Sunday, Finished the second inwale, glued and screwed with only one more day of carpentry then it’s on to finish work
Saturday’s labors were mostly positive though I miss measured one of the inwales and had to grow some more wood. The knees look spectacular o
Thwarts and their support stanchions
The floors (the word means something different to a boatbuilder) are in and the spacers for the inwales are glued in place. The floors required some creative clamping to get them in place to screw which required an annoying workflow but that’s one less evolution I need to worry about now
Big day.....that turned out to be mostly cleaning. Started the morning clearing the workbenches of everything that didn’t need to be there, and organizing what was left. Removed the excess molds from the hull before rollover, the reason for this is twofold, 1 they weigh a lot and 2 I needed them to set up for gluing sole bearers. Cleaning excess glue from inside the hull is a joy and sticky job l did about half of the interior the rest will happen tomorrow (maybe) the only real progress was finishing the pattern for the first of two breasthooks and all the make ahead parts I glued up
Glueing he outer stems and the keel in place. Some drama because the keel shifted an 1/8th but it faired in and I putty’d more.....with luck i can epoxy the hull on Monday and get ready to roll it over
Not sure which is going to be the bow yet but one is done
And just like that Planking season is over. This jig which I had to figure out will get no more use. Though this 3” Greenlee slick that I received as a gift certainly will. The handle I made to fit (from Wenge) gives it a nice balance
Planking season....
Progress.....first strake hung and the last of the make ahead parts laminated
Hey it’s starting to look like a boat
First plank hung, remarkably easy all things considered
First plank (ok keel) is hung, glued and screwed
