Haven’t read it yet but felt like doing a cover. The one on the right is an alt on hair.
Sigh. I wait for the day when Emma leans hard on glamour again.
My absolute favorite growing up was Magik. Her social awkwardness, bristly personality, her search for a kinder version of herself was what drew me to her. What she went through felt like a mirror to another child who grew up with neglect and abuse. Styling wise, the newer depictions of her have never really settled well with me. I feel she’d have been drawn to the punk movement with its anti establishment stance and where misfits and outcasts can share a table. The yellow docs are a reference to the new mutants yellow themed costumes while the rest show aspects of her personality. Thanks and I hope you guys like this as much I liked making it before.
Remy, Anna, Kwannon, aka Gambit, Rogue, Psylocke, possibly the coolest adults at Charles’s school. All 3 look like they’re going to different events. As with the other pieces, I worked hard to capture as much of their soul and then some.
The Gambit one sure did numbers. From a sexy guy, it only makes sense to go to the X-men’s sexiest mutant: Asian Psylocke, aka Kwannon.
I kept Kwannon’s butterfly motif going with the lace stockings and body suit, the solarized ones on her coat, and even her hair evokes the shape of one. She had a custom Rick Owen’s strapping boot, a knuckle duster McQueen clutch, and shuriken earrings. I tried to also reference her ninja swimsuit costume.
I hope you like this version of her. In my mind, she’s on her way to Matsuo’s latest night club.
While we’ve seen Gambit in casual clothes, I wanted to see what he might wear if he were at an art or music festival. I think he’s partial to showing off manicured feet, clothes that are bohemian but easy to get in and out of, patterns like missoni, and layering accessories on top of one another. An easy sensuality. I added a mole to his face as something lovers would sometimes touch, close as it is to his lips.
My version of Rogue is a shorter than the original. I like the visual that she’s this sweet tiny southern belle that can punch you into the next town. I worked hard on her face too as I wanted to capture an almost endearing expression, someone you want to be friends with or be lovers with. Her style is almost sexy but rumpled, easy and effortless but friendly. She has heart motifs to reference her yearning for human touch and affection. She likes bright colors and big bags that are messy inside but filled with things that she can offer friends like snacks, gum, toilet paper, etc. I hope you like my version.
Here are the 1st three X-men for X-traordinary Days: Emma, Ororo, and Jean. I tried to give each woman a distinct fashion voice while trying to push the vision for each character.
Next up are Rogue, Gambit, and Psylocke.
omg ur art is so cool! if u don't mind could u pls do ur day off style with mystique? tysm!
I am trying to do most of the X-men before I get to their enemies but I cannot say that I do not play favorites. I have finished Nightcrawler and Irene. Still deciding on Mystique’s because she’s played so many parts but which one rings authentic? The upcoming ones rn are Rogue, Gambit, and Psylocke.
More from the old art series where I style the X-men during their day off. I don’t have a name still so I’ll run a poll soon on some name choices.
For Jean, I’ve always wanted to give her a small town girl look. A pretty face but one that would not stand a chance in a place lie New York or LA. I gave her freckles and an unmanicured brow, and a shy expression. For her outfit, a purple sleeveless sweater vest, a white button up, a fiery range mohair skirt, argyle knee high socks, and purple suede booties. She has a gold woven clutch, the phoenix as gold earrings, and an oversized men’s sweater jacket that could have belonged to her father or Scott.
Old art series where I wanted to to style the xmen in their day offs and in their downtime. I’ve posted Emma already so here is Ororo.
I remember when Ororo as having punk roots but also noticed a lack of African textiles in her fashion stylings. I wanted to portray her as a confident woman, proud of her heritage, while also daring in her aesthetics.
Kate Pryde as the martyr of Krakoa.
Votive candle inspired Jean Grey: Our Lady of the Cleansing Fire, Mother to the Strange and Unwanted. When hope is low and the skies are dark, pray to the Burning Lady and light and love will spark.
I love your art!
Thank you ❤️
Inspired by votive candles, I can imagine people of yore praying to Ororo for safe seas and and good harvest.
Uploading old art. I wanted to do an alternate dimension storyline wherein the X-men are in a traveling circus. They go around rescuing mutant runaways and trying to right mutant justice undercover. I thought Jean might be a great aerialist and trapeze artist as she can simulate fantastic stunts by way of here telekinesis. I was going to do similar posters for other characters like Cyclops as the blindfolded knife throwing target guy because of special skill for spatial awareness and geometric accuracy, Beast as the acrobatic beast man obvs, and maybe Emma as a fortune teller scamming the unwary and hapless. I went into a depressive slump after though so that went kaput.
