Agree with everything said here, but wanted to add that, yes, the ship is less active than it used to be it’s far from dead.
Some recent fandom activity includes:
The @sansanwritersguild has an active discord community with Six Sentence Sunday prompts, fic recs, discussions, sprints, etc. The guild recently finished a fic exchange in February, which added new SanSan fics to the tag. We are planning the next exchange for May/June.
@banadraw creates and continues to create lovely fandom artwork. @anya-draws-stuff has also done some great SanSan art too.
Some of us are stubbornly still writing and will continue to write SanSan content until the end of days. I consider myself to be a ride-or-die for this ship. Catch me when I’m 80 still writing about these two love-sick fools.
Several writers have come back from hiatus to continue their fics, including @ownsariver who is working on “Northern Lights and Midnight Sun,” a SanSan classic.
@bighound-littlebird continues to provide us with lovely fandom content and an inclusive fandom space to share our SanSan love.
@littlewolfbird and @thebluelemontree have a ASOIAF podcast called The Silent Sisters podcast. Episode 17 is a SanSan episode!
Considering that there hasn’t been new SanSan book content since 2005 when AFFC published and the show ended four years ago, it’s pretty amazing how active the fandom is.
I’m a big believer in making fandom what you want it to be. Write the fics you want to see, set up fic exchanges, dabble in art and pic sets, post your metas on tumblr, comment on fics, even seemingly abandoned ones because you never know what impact that might have on the writer.
I do think there will be a SanSan renaissance. Until then, we all can make the fandom what we want it to be, even if it’s not what it once was.
Does it sometimes feel like shouting into a void? Sure but people are still around and doing their thing. A day will come when there are even more once TWOW is released.
