My name is Anya and Welcome to my blog! ✨
I am having a blast creating my Tumblr 💃🏽 Sometimes we have to be told the truth, but maybe in Small Doses. Tumblr gives me the opportunity to tell my truths and even more. I have even more to say now because of my class #AFS363 ✊🏽
Introduction
Black people are important and here is why:
1. Black people are consistent subjects/suspects in the United States
2. No other group except Native Americans can relate to such discrimination like slavery
3. There is a lot more research and information on African Americans
4. African Americans have a complicated story and past that is worth knowing
Black people haven’t had positions of power to be racist or have any type of animosity towards whites, yet we are still seen and labeled as the bad guys. All Black people ever wanted was complete freedom, respect, and a voice. We want to be heard. Today, mainstream media including social media outlets like Twitter have given us the opportunity to speak out and tell our truths.
This semester I had the opportunity of taking #AFS363, Blacks and Mass Media at Stony Brook University. It opened my eyes to many different perspectives on Blacks in the media. I feel comfortable speaking up and telling my truths now. We must educate ourselves first before educating others. On my page, you will see many of my thoughts in my Thought Papers. These are actual pieces I turned in to be graded. I hope you read and enjoy them. I took my time to write them and revaluate them for this blog.

This is my Second Thought Paper. It is based on bell hooks’ work, “The Oppositional Gaze: Black Female Spectators” It goes in-depth about why it is important to look and “gaze”. Also, whether or not we should critique Black people doing their thing in mainstream media.
There isn’t many of us in mainstream media. So, should we continue to criticize the ones who are already there? For their hairstyles, outfits, and many more? I hope my Thought Paper 2 made you think a little about whether or not we should be looking that deep.

Mockery in Plain Sight

Black people are often mocked in plain sight. Many don’t notice because they think that their struggles are being brought to light. Watch out, others may be trying to embarrass you.
This is my Third and Final Thought Paper. This paper was based on the works of bell hooks. bell hooks critiqued Jennie Livingston’s documentary ‘Paris is Burning’. It goes into detail about drag queens, white supremacy, and many more...
Conclusion
Being Black in this world is hard. Being Black in America is even harder. Just imagine others being afraid of you because of the color of your skin. Even more disturbing, imagine being stopped, held at gunpoint, and many times killed because of the color of your skin. Well, this is America. This is the country we live in. This is the country that many people hope to visit and hope to live in someday.
“The Most Powerful Nation in the World”
#AFS363, Blacks and Mass Media, I learned that Blacks do not have to own and produce media to be imperative in mainstream media. We already dominate Twitter and many other platforms, simply by telling our truths. Black people have always wanted to have a voice when we couldn’t, and now that we do, we will not stop talking. We will continue to be heard.
I hope that my Tumblr page gave you the truth in the correct amount of dosage, Small Doses. We must educate ourselves first before we try to educate others, and I feel comfortable now to share in the open. I really hope you enjoyed it and learned something new.
