Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship is definitely not the model one in the Asoiaf universe, not least because it started when Rhaenyra was fifteen and Daemon was thirty-one (though I don't see people getting all that upset about the relationships between sixteen-year-old Rhaenys and thirty-seven-year-old Corlys, Daella and thirty-six-year-old Rodrik, or Rhaena and thirty-two-year-old Corwyn). But Daemon is still the best option from men in canon (at least until the Blacks took the capital).

And what was Rhaenyra's acceptable alternative? Aegon, ten years younger, whose mother hated Rhaenyra? Laenor, who didn't care about Rhaenyra and left his wife and fled to Driftmark immediately after the wedding? Harwin, who has done nothing for Rhaenyra other than father three obviously illegitimate children, and who could have been closer in age to Daemon than to Rhaenyra? Fucking Criston, who has been stalking Rhaenyra since she was a little girl, and then, unable to accept rejection, decided to dedicate his life to revenge against Rhaenyra?

Rhaenyra gave birth to the perfect Aegon, who by the age of ten had lost half his family, his dragon, witnessed the horrific execution of his own mother, and got traumatized for life, but was still a better man, brother, husband, and king than the cheap parody of a Targaryen that the usurper was.

everyone talks about how alicent "deserves" to put aegon on the throne because of everything that happened to her after marrying viserys, but what about aemma? the one who had to marry him when she was twelve and had to go through five miscarriages before giving birth to rhaenyra at fifteen and later died on birth?

I don’t really know where the idea came from that people think Rhaenyra herself is a feminist in the modern sense of the term. I don’t think people on team black/team Rhaenyra are on that team because they think Rhaenyra herself is the feminist, but because choosing her as heir/queen despite her being a woman is the more feminist option for the viewer on a show being set up for side choosing.

Aegon represents the continuation of male primogeniture and Rhaenyra represents a change to that. Even if Rhaenyra herself isn’t a perfect representation of modern day feminism.

In Poland we had King Jadwiga (yes, a king) in the 14th century and women got the right to vote in the 20th century. Does that mean that Jadwiga shouldn't become king because she wasn't a feminist...?

It's logical that Rhaenyra shouldn't become queen only because she's a woman and some feminist icon, but because as the oldest child she was named heir by the king, who clearly said that from now on the inheritor would be "the oldest child regardless of gender". This isn't about "woman vs man" per se, but about "woman and law vs lawless sexists".

But some people still don't understand that...
