Viserra Targaryen💙
Are u the same person with “theroguedelight” account on tumblr?
i am not, i do not have that username on any platform.
au where viserys dies and rhaenyra ascends the iron throne while daemon is fighting in the stepstones.
Queen Rhaenyra’s coronation
i also have a twitter if anyone is interested in following me over there 🖤
@rhaenysconqueror Exactly. And that happiness is once again emphasised at Viserys's birth. Frankly, people just refuse to accept that: 1) th
yup. if you look objectively at the events, it’s obvious. when they reunite after his exile, rhaenyra is not mentioned with harwin/laenor again. she stopped all pretenses. at the same time, daemon allegedly brings his niece into his marriage/bed. or they’re close enough, feelings obvious enough, that it’s what aided such rumors. they’re inseparable once more despite having partners (laena is the only one included, who also has a great relationship with rhaenyra), and don’t let this stop them. (reminds me of the hotd “marriage is a duty” theme daemon was teaching rhaenyra in season 1). daemon was pursuing and romancing rhaenyra during both his first 2 marriages, really trying to make her his rhaenys. then at the start of 120 AC, laena, laenor, and harwin all die off so quickly and suspiciously the year is nicknamed “the year of the red spring”, where “tensions and jealousies come to a boil”. grrm also let us know aegon was born literally 9 months after laena died. they had no reason to rush this timeline of events. it was bad for them politically to rush it, but that’s because it was motivated emotionally and not politically.
daemon’s marriages with laena and rhaenyra actually unfold similarly. after his wife dies, he kills a romantic rival and elopes with them, prompting viserys’ rage. it is the circumstances that make the difference.
for rhaenyra, daemon’s life was the most stable it’d ever been. he was in such good standing that viserys was finally considering him for his new hand after lyonel strong died. daemon had his daughters and family, finally had another real chance to be with rhaenyra, their claims were already tied through their children so there would be no real new political advantage with this match. or at least not any that would benefit them anytime soon to justify the rush. the only explanation is that rhaenyra immediately got pregnant. they either did not care to take serious precautions, or were too caught up within each other and slipped. daemon was risking everything he worked so hard for. again, they could have taken precautions, quietly been together like they had already been doing to respect the mourning periods of their spouses, and go about this in a much less suspicious way so daemon isn’t a suspect for every crime.
but despite his current standing in his life, he still arranged for laenor, his family, to be killed by his own lover. rhaenys, his cousin, and corlys, his closest ally’s heir and only remaining child, all while they’re still grieving laena. this situation is very dark and tragic. this was not motivated by politics. this was so daemon could finally be with the one woman he was ever denied, who he had long waited for and wanted to marry. he wasn’t going to make the same mistake as last time. daemon also had to relinquish total control over such a risky act by paying qarl to do if, which is another gamble on his part. if he was caught, he’d be destroying and betraying his closest allies and family. he’d certainly be executed this time.
for laena, daemon was in his worst exile and point in his life. for laena’s hand, he quickly killed a weakling, a “wastrel” who lost all power/money/status and was only an embarrassment to corlys. he was someone who no one would miss. daemon already struck the deal with corlys in private. this was the perfect solution for both men’s problems, and daemon had a guaranteed outcome. here, he literally had everything to gain and nothing to lose. it had such low stakes, he had his fun with it. this wasn’t an emotionally driven act, this was political.
daemon elopes with both rhaenyra and laena, but with laena, he had made a public spectacle of asking for her hand, which was willingly given by her father, and they took 2 weeks to organize a wedding with laena’s family present. it was only a secret/“elopement” from his brother and the crown. daemon and rhaenyra truly eloped on dragonstone, the seat of their ancestors, their home, paralleling them to jaehaerys and alysanne. the wedding they’ve so long waited for in the most meaningful place.
viserys was also enraged by both marriages. it prompted daemon to go to essos with laena for viserys to cool off, even though all he wanted was to go home. after he wed rhaenyra, daemon very happily remained on dragonstone with almost everything he ever wanted for nigh on a decade. he was finally fulfilled.
also, daemon prioritized naming his firstborn after his father, but he took laena into consideration for their second twin’s name. rhaenyra had zero autonomy to name any her first 3 sons— it was corlys and laenor who fought over it. she finally gets this autonomy when she weds daemon and chooses the names of all their children. she excitedly named aegon after the conqueror (could also be for daemon’s deceased young brother), and it was to spite alicent. with daemon’s much emphasized, long yearned for first son. the naming of all the children is deliberately contrasted in the text.
these differences are all so obvious if you take a deeper look into the context and motivations, rather than hanging onto flimsy unreliable quotes.
no one at dragonstone betrayed their secrets for the 10 years they lived there, so we have no sources giving us insight on the peaceful side of their marriage, which was the majority of it. people claim he didn’t have any peace with her because of the war at the very end, but this was after 9+ years together. he was the most settled he’d ever been at that time. they had a tight-knit, loving blended family. they subverted alicent/viserys. they stayed on dragonstone and raised a huge family, daemon “ever by her side”, still having children a decade later — what about that screams that he was using her for politics?
Modern Daemon Targaryen
I’ve seen a lot of argument about “well daemon should have been king by killing Viserys, then marry Laena” l was like? damn even Maegor waiting his brother to die before he kill his nephews and i was so confused with Laena part? What marrying her could help his sucssesion lol he did marry her in canon and didnt change thing she wasnt even Corly heir, meanwhile Rhaenyra got all the lords swearing to defend her right (incase Viserys die early) and she was “the realms delight”, and Daemon not so well like by nobles and court at that time.
If the dance happen between Rhaenyra and Daemon how do you thing would play out? Maegor marry his niece and Aegon had to marry Jaehaera but for some reason Daemon is stupid enough to not marry his own niece who was close to him? But Laena hehe?
apologies for responding late!
these scenarios are all just fanfiction and should be regarded as such. daemon had many, many instances he could have killed viserys or rhaenyra to take the crown for himself. yet, for all his many flaws, daemon’s biggest redeeming quality is the love and loyalty he has for his family and its legacy. even though viserys treated daemon like dirt and rejected/exiled him over and over again, daemon never usurped him.
daemon also cares not just about his bloodline, but his father’s. he clearly holds his father in high esteem, considering he named his firstborn daughter after him despite gender, as well as his plans and intentions to keep trying until he finally had a son.
also… rhaenyra was daemon’s niece. she and viserys were his closest family, from before he was even king. there are many layers to their relationship, and this is one of them. from what we know, rhaenyra is the only one who always held unconditional love for daemon, who ran to him and welcomed him with warmth. there has always been love between them, from innocent and familial to passionate and romantic. rhaenyra always chose daemon, she never turned on him, even when she thought he turned on her. even when he remarried to laena and rhaenyra could have been jealous and disliked her. for a character like daemon, who has been rejected and exiled over and over again, who does grand acts to prove himself that inevitably backfire, having someone who just loved him with no true ulterior motives, who is an equal to him status wise, is very precious. it’s what his parents had, and likely what he himself yearned for most. even his marriage to laena was arranged through him and corlys, while laena had no say or choice in it. rhaenyra always loved daemon for daemon, so i think it’s funny people think he’d just randomly slaughter her and his brother, literally half of house targaryen.
in the end the question is what motive would be so strong for daemon to choose that path? if viserys did something serious enough for daemon to depose him, i think rhaenyra would likely be on daemon’s side, even if conflicted. otherwise, daemon would continue to just support his niece like he chose to do in canon. in this case, daemon would most likely just marry rhaenyra. it would be the smartest politically as she is the king’s firstborn, and it would combine their claims. they would be 2/3 of the remaining targaryens. it presents a strong united front. if daemon opposed both viserys and rhaenyra while wed to laena, it would come off as primarily motivated by revenge and ambition on both his and corlys’ parts.
the only motive he’d have to choose laena over rhaenyra would be to secure the velaryon’s loyalty. but daemon and rhaenyra are also much more likely and reliable to work out an arrangement or some future marriage contract with corlys between their children and laenor or laena’s. they wouldn’t brush him off and lead him on to only then appease him like viserys. you could make a case that it would finally tie aemon/baelon’s lines, but this would only be a symbolic measure for few. most of the population would have no personal investment or even care. rhaenys was also previously judged before the realm and “fairly” passed over at the great council, so it really is a gamble if people would accept a dual claim of her line’s alongside the rogue prince.
but in the end, i have the same opinion regardless of who daemon marries. i think daemon’s first choice would always be rhaenyra, like in canon. however if she’s not an option and he married laena, as soon as he becomes king, he’d take rhaenyra as his second wife and queen and make her his rhaenys.
“princess rhaenyra was a different matter. daemon spent long hours in her company, enthralling her with tales of his journeys and battles. he gave her pearls and silks and books and a jade tiara said once to have belonged to the empress of leng, read poems to her, dined with her, hawked with her, sailed with her, entertained her by making mock of the greens at court, the “lickspittles” fawning over queen alicent and her children. he praised her beauty, declaring her to be the fairest maid in all the seven kingdoms. ” — fire & blood

Daemon looking as if Rhaenyra meant everything to him hehe
Love your takes on Rhaenyra and Daemon and the way you disprove all the delusional headcanons from Laena fans. It's nice to see someone with reading comprehension after so long <33
thank you so much! 🖤
i think about them all the time. they are so fun to analyze and discuss, with such a fascinating and complex dynamic. i have more analyses i’m working on, i just can’t seem to choose which one to fixate on and finish! i’ve been going off of conversations i see online mostly.
i do like laena and her relationship with rhaenyra. the show butchered her storyline and turned her into a disposable black girlfriend. i understand wanting to try and regain control of the racist, hurtful narrative hotd set by overcompensating with their more companionable book versions. but when doing this, they also misportray quotes, events, or just cut out all context. you also have fans of the greens who are very eager to use laena as a tool to diminish rhaenyra through her husband. this is what angers me in the end. it’s never a genuine conversation.
in truth, their marriages cannot be compared fairly. daemon was with rhaenyra twice as long as laena, making her his longest romantic relationship. his relationship with laena had never been tested in any way. laena was never under the same amount of scrutiny as rhaenyra, nor was she actively being targeted like rhaenyra. rhaenyra’s romantic life was always a popular topic for rumors. people just see that daemon and laena’s marriage was uncomplicated and equate that with true love.
another rhaenyra from earlier this month
Let’s go sailing again soon, my lady.
Elissa Farman and Rhaena.
since people want to make up quotes, here it is straight from f&b
laena died on 1/6. daemon and rhaenyra rushed to get married, publicly insulting their spouses memories. 9 months later, an undetermined amount of time before 10/22, aegon iii is born.
while rereading trotd (2022), i noticed this as well. on pages 315-316.
jaehaera died on 9/22 (an interesting coincidence) and 7 days after, it implies that aegon is already 13 years old. that would mean his birthday would be before 9/29. if this were true, then rhaenyra conceived aegon before laena even died.
