People who can empathise with both Alicent and Rhaenyra (on the show) are God's strongest soldiers.
Iâve said this in an another post here but I wanted to reiterate it.
Emma can only play Rhaenyra as she is presented/written in the script. The fact book Rhaenyra and show Rhaenyra are different isn't because of Emma, it's because of the show creators and writers. Show Alicent is also really different from her book counterpart but I haven't seen anyone saying these things about Emma also saying the same about Olivia. Aegon is written/played differently than in the book but no one is mad at Tom. (Dude said Aegon was an empath in multiple interviews???)
Emma is not a writer, they have little to no say over the shows big deviations from the book. The book changes started in season 1 before Emma was even playing Rhaenyra. Everything goes through so many writers, show creators/ directors before it gets to an actor on set.
âRhaenicentâ was written in the script in season 1 episode 1. Milly and Emily spoke about their characterâs relationship having potential romantic undertones before Emma and Olivia were playing their respective roles. I think people want someone to blame, and pick Emma or Olivia, because they are the ones doing interviews where they talk about this dynamic and do so in a positive manner. They canât slag off a tv show/its writing when they are still a part of it and have to promote it. They are allowed to enjoy working together and find the roles they have to play interesting despite the changes from the book. I think itâs bizarre to say, because of that, but with no proof or realistic explanation, that Emma or Olivia are the sole cause of Alicent and Rhaenyra being more amicable than in the book, and they are somehow conspiring to write fanfiction against the wishes of every one of the shows creators and writers and George R R Martin.
Personally, I think Emma has been feminine in their portrayal of Rhaenyra. Emma cannot control what costumes they have to wear. At no point have I ever thought Rhaenyra seemed just like Emma in a blonde wig. Watch any video of Emma being themselves and theyâre way more masculine than Rhaenyra in their mannerisms. Once again, people want someone to blame for Rhaenyraâs costumes and character changes and decide it must be Emmaâs fault because theyâre more masculine/non binary irl.
I've seen the accusation that Emma has said they are uncomfortable playing feminine characters but I can't find them saying this anywhere. The only thing I can find them saying is the opposite; "I really like playing women and I'm really good at it,".

FINAL TRAILER. The throne knows no mercy.
House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres June 22 on HBO Max in Europe.
House of the Dragon is a depressing enough story as it is and I have to endure that on top of toxic teams discourse and weird conspiracy theories about the actors?
Actual torture.

âThatâs why high school, or a crappy job, or any other restrictive circumstance can be dangerous: They make dreams too painful to bear. To avoid longing, we hunker down, wait, and resolve to just survive. Great art becomes a reminder of the art you want to be making, and of the gigantic world outside of your small, seemingly inescapable one. We hide from great things because they inspire us, and in this state, inspiration hurts.â

About Rhaenyra potential being cut by the iron throne and that meaning sheâs being rejected by it...
Some people think Aegon the Conqueror was cut by the throne, and he made the thing. In Fire and Blood after he reads a letter from Dorne, it says; "âŠwhilst seated on the Iron Throne. When he rose afterward, men said, his hand was dripping blood. He burned the letter and never spoke of it again" but in TWOIAF it says; "Aegon read it upon the Iron Throne, and men say that when he rose, his hand was bleeding, so hard had he clenched it." But, how sharp and long are his nails? I think it's almost impossible to clench your fist so hard it bleeds, especially that visibly.
Although, you could say Viserys I is partly to blame for causing the dance, I don't think he was considered a bad ruler, his rule was considered peaceful. It seems strange the throne would cut and reject Viserys but not Aegon IV who's called "the unworthy" and is partly responsible for the creation of house Blackfyre and the subsequent Blackfyre rebellions.
Furthermore, Fire and Blood isn't written as 100% factual, it's written as a historical document from the perspective of multiple different biased narrators. It's possible everyone cut themselves on the throne, but only certain people were mentioned as doing so as propaganda, or remembered as doing so due to confirmation bias. Or that people weren't cut at all but were lied about.
Either way, the iron throne isn't sentient or magic, I think the idea that it rejects certain people by cutting them is just superstition by the characters. I think the point of ASOIAF is that no one deserves to rule and have absolute power. I think the iron throne is just a dangerous seat created to be uncomfortable so the ruler sitting it didn't get too comfortable. To quote Robert Baratheon; "Nonsense. It's a chair made of steel blades. Rhaenyra had wanted it all her life and sacrificed two sons for it. She likely gripped the damned thing too tight.â
In show canon the only person we've seen cut themselves is Viserys I. Are we supposed to believe Viserys was a worse ruler than Joffrey and Cersei who werenât cut/rejected? In HOTD we've seen Daemon sit on the throne and he wasn't cut. If in season 3 Aemond, who was called âthe kinslayerâ which is considered to be a cursed thing to be, isn't cut when he sits the throne is that evidence the throne has chosen him over his brother Aegon? People like to say Rhaenyra wasn't popular with the smallfolk towards the end so she was rejected, but neither were Aegon or Aemond.
People that like to say Rhaenyra will be/was cut and it definitely means sheâs being rejected as queen are the same people that totally ignore the scene when the white hart shows up for Rhaenyra, not Aegon II.
But, personally, I donât buy into the idea that the throne cuts people it rejects. If that was the case it should cut/reject everyone.
