Throwback Thursday with apawfive. When Cross came to us, he was very weak physically, but emotionally more so. He was abandoned when he was eight years old! That's quite old for a dog. Before we brought him home, he had already spent about six months in fear, stress, confusion and loss. There was trauma clearly, and aggression. There were just too many trigger points. Initially, for the first few days, we even had to give him food from a distance. I was bitten within the first two weeks. But what we observed was he was apologetic about it. Considering his past, he may have not accepted us as his family so soon, due to the fear and uncertainty, but he did regret his actions. It was heartbreaking to see him like that. But we learned to be more patient with him. Gradually, things started getting better. He was happy. To have a family. To have two loving sisters - Mishka and Tallulah. This photo was clicked about a year later. And it speaks of how much he had started to trust us and love us. ❤️ And today, he loves to snuggle with us, play with us and be a demanding baby, asking for our time and attention. We were lucky that we were trusted with him. But as it is with our adoptions, it still feels like he saved us just as much as we did him. There are just too many of these unexplainable emotions in my heart right now. . . . . . #apawfive #5dogs2humans #goldenretriever #adopteddog #seniordog #dogparents #abandoneddog #throwbackthursday #tbt https://www.instagram.com/p/CaXTXPqp4HX/?utm_medium=tumblr
