APing Older Kids

Babies grow up, that’s their job. They become toddlers and children and school kids, teens and *gulp* adults.

We’ve just gone through one transition with start of school for our eldest and it brings new AP challenges. How do you get them to talk about what their day was like? How are they being treated by the staff and other children? Is the schools methods in line with our own? 

It’s a can of worms!

So attachment parenting is anti-men?! No, don't be silly! Attachment parenting celebrates the role of the man in his children's young lives, from birth through the early years. And it takes no official line on exactly how it's principles are practically realised. Men are encouraged to be involved in child-rearing from the baby's very first entrance into the world, receiving, cuddling, rocking, playing with the baby as he or she grows from tiny to beyond.

How Mothers Use Social Media Differently Than Fathers

Recently, the Pew Research Center released a report on the social media habits of parents, based on surveys of over 2,000 of them (defined as people with kids under 18) last September.

It’s for reasons like this I started the AP Dads page. There was and still is a large inbalance in the various groups online of representation of Fathers. I suspect this will remain so as long as Mothers are the defacto primary caregivers in the early days. But the point was to provide Dads with a place for support and contact with like minded Fathers. 

The various groups online can feel a bit excluding sometimes.

How Baby #22: Not Okay

After almost 17 months, Kiyomi is going to daycare for the first time this week. We were really blessed for timing; for the first six months, Kev and I were both off with her together. Then I got the rest of my maternity leave, six more months. When I went back to work, Kev took five months off during the off-season at work. But that well has run dry, and he’s been called back.

Kiyomi’s been doing overnights with other people since she was a week old, she is a pro at it. Daycare will be a walk in the park. But even though I’m putting on a brave face, it still hurts for some reason.
