We caught up with Ninetoes ahead of his debut set in Bristol for our upcoming Apex summer party to ask him a few questions about himself, his background and what makes him tick!
Hello,
Hello mate nice to meet you,
You too, first off you name yourself Ninetoes, whats the story behind this?
It’s very easy. I have 9 toes, it was an accident when I was 5 so they had to cut my big right toe off then.
How did your musical journey start? & What were you listening to that really inspired you to want to pursue it as a full time career?
My first music I was listening to was Michael Jackson when I was 4-5 years old, his Thriller album was like the Holy Bible or the Qu’ran for me. During the 80’s I was dancing breakdance. I listened to Disco Funk & the early hip hop stuff.. In 1994, I started to collect more and more records and in 1996 I began my career as a hip hop DJ. In early 2000, I started to collect house and techno records at the same time and I was in love with both of these music genres..
In 2012 I decided to change my style completely, so I produced Finder & after that I’m touring all around the globe and playing house and techno music.
For you what is the best record ever made?
Everything from Michael Jackson, he was a genius :)
Who’s your hero in life? Anyone you particularly look up to and idolise?
My parents. They came very young from turkey to germany and had to start all from scratch and they taught me to always be yourself and do what I want to do without hurting anyone else. My parents are my best friends in life and my idols.
With the festival season approaching, what Festival do you enjoy playing the most and are there any you particularly want to be at this summer?
There are many amazing festivals out there and every different one has it’s own flair and vibe. I think I would like to play at the Sunwaves Festival in Romania. That’s really awesome out there :)
What’s your weirdest festival experience?
Once I lost my AAA pass somewhere and I had to go on stage to play and the security guy wouldn’t me let inside the stage area, I just had 5 minutes left until the stage manager realised who I was so he got me just in time to play on stage :)
Finally, What advice can you give to up and coming Dj’s and music production enthusiasts?
Just be yourself, don’t copy others. Only see them as an inspiration and never give up.
