These are my favorite images taken for my Photography Final.

I created this work to try and convey the same feelings I get from important places in my life to the viewer using photo composition and long exposure photography. The main influence of this work is my family. We have shared many moments and adventures over the years many of which have occurred in places photographed in this work. Two locations were primarily used to construct this work; The first of which is my Grandparents’ house which Is where my family meets almost every week. And the second of which is Haggard park a park in Plano that my family visit for special events such as the Christmas tree lighting yearly.

All images depicted in this work were taken using long exposures, the interior shots were around one to two seconds of exposure while the longest exposure (Red Line) lasted thirty seconds. The photos taken at Haggard park and down town Plano relied on using combinations of framing, lighting and exposure length to achieve their desired effects.

The central theme of Family this work possesses has become increasingly important to me as I have matured. I now realized how incredibly lucky I am to have such an incredible group of people behind me and what I do. I hope that later in life I can look back at this book and feel some of the emotions I’ve captured in its pages.

Women's Work

The Women’s work exhibit in the SPN building across campus was interesting.

I arrived long before it was open so in the meantime, I looked at the aviation records room directly across from the exhibit which was also very cool. Once I was able to get into the exhibit I first noticed three portraits near the entrance. This exhibit was apparently called “For Equality” by Victoria Olivia The first thing I noticed about all three of these pieces was the resemblance to church stained glass window which often represents saints. The images depicted three women of different nationalities framed by three thematically different windows each calling attention to different social issues including immigration race and sexuality.

In the main room, I encountered two works that I at first was a little bit confused by, but I think I got the gist of in the end. I cannot find the name of the work or the artist in the provided pamphlet, so I will just post and image. I was initially confused as the works mostly focus on the naked female form with the subjects faces obscured and their bodies brought to the viewers’ attention by both framing and color contrast. I initially was taken aback trying to understand how this was supposed to stand for something or make a statement of some sort like the first work I saw but then it dawned on me, this work is depicting how women are portrayed in many forms of media and advertising, their blocked faces I think is supposed to show how women people are sometimes disregarded and treated more as objects and things than as people in (increasingly unpopular) popular culture.

Lastly, there was a work called “Feminization” by Libby Rowe with two images of the Libby Rowe wearing different outfits . One outfit was a vintage looking pink dress while the other was a purple T-shirt and jeans. The work mobile media center encased in a pink case with headphones connected to it. This aspect of the exhibit was broken so I was not able to experience whatever audio/visual content was provided. Its obviously trying to contrast what being a woman meant in the past vs what it means today but as far as the artist's goal I cannot truly tell due to the malfunction. I did notice a social media aspect which I decided not to participate in as I am not a big fan of posting my face online, I was tempted to take one of the provided #Iamwithlibby pins but as ridiculous as it sounds it just didn’t feel right touching anything in a gallery space, I also have a habit of losing small objects the second I come in contact with them.

I used to create Lego stop motion animations when I was a kid, i always had far to many frames for simple animations. I wanted this to reflect that, a simple movement made complicated.

Rejected image Iron Horse. Its a cool statue at the DART station in downtown Plano but I don't have any particularly strong memories or emotions connected to it.

These are my favorite photos taken from the Photo book Final project. The First Image-Rustic was taken in my Grandparents family room, in a corner I don’t go to often; mostly because I am worried I would damage the old side table and chair. I am not even certain they are that old, I know the lantern isn’t, but I’ve always tried to stay away even as a kid. I wanted to frame this like some sort of old Victorian portrait- something that would look good in black and white, something fragile. I decided to skip the black and white filter as I feel black and white photos feel distant and alien which this exactly the opposite feeling I get at my grandparents.

The second image-Red Line was taken using a thirty second exposure between old downtown Plano and haggard park. I think it perfectly captures the feelings I get when I visit this part of town. I’ve always felt that this area was lively and chaotic, especially when I was a child. This may be in part because we would only visit for special events to for a special dinner during which the streets were always packed with people with trains occasionally bringing everything to halt and making everything even more lively all at the same time. I knew I wanted to capture the lights on the railroad crossing signs, but I had no idea the effect would turn out this great.

Final Project Research. I haven't had time to go to the location I want to use for my actual photos so I’ve been trying to get used to the long exposure settings. I think I am Trying to narrow down the shooting locations. I am having problems understanding what each setting will affect this kind of photography. Kind of wishing I had more moving objects in my life.

Photo Book Prompt

The Power Book by Jacqueline Hassink shows meeting rooms of major companies from around the world. The aim is to show where the true seat of power in the world lies. The Images consist of boardrooms, meeting rooms, notes from CEO’s and Advertisement at product conventions.

I will definitely have similarly sized photos and white spaces. Sequenced-based on the similarity of context.

When I think of the term “Passage” I think about moving through time and space. I always feel rooted in both these dimensions during my commute to work when I can just focus on driving and listen to my music while I think about when and where I am.

Photobook project.

Final Project

I’ve been looking into time-lapse and long exposure photography and the results it can achieve. I really like the idea of capturing all the light in a given area over an amount of time. The theme could ask the questions like “How dark is night really?” I bet if I captured all the light that hit my house at night it would seem more like a laser light show than the dead of night. It Would also be cool to be able to see the invisible sky lanes commercial jets take as well as the orbits of any satellites. This would require me to leave the camera outside with an external battery of some kind and waterproofing, and I am pretty sure I don’t have the time or money to make that work right now. Right now, I am still waffling between continuing to take photos of the Moon and planets, switching to taking photos of people and places that have greatly impacted my life or trying out time-lapse/long exposure photography. I guess it depends on how easy it is to fix any of the problems that each of these categories presents. (continuing to take photos of the moon means I need to repair my telescope and buy new hardware to let me track planets and satellites (expensive), taking photos of places and people near and dear to me would mean putting stuff online they or I might not be comfortable with (Insecure) and the time-lapse Idea could cost me my camera (risky). To make any of this work for the video I would either need lots of photos to do a time lapse or actual video to work with, the Astrophotography images work a lot better for time-lapse imagery.

I believe this is my final photograph. I do not have any video as my DSLR disables the video function when the lens is removed. The only video footage I have Is accidental from when I was first trying to simply take a photo through the lens (Not a good idea). I remember this photo was taken with the telescope at nearly 90-degree angle with the ground as the moon was now directly overhead, it was the last photo I took that night, a final look at Tycho Crater.

I am down to my final to images! This one Is similar to my earlier favorite due to the way it fades into the blackness around it the detail surrounding the rocky craters. The Moon at this point was high overhead which is why it occupies the lower right-hand portion of the frame.

Here is an example of how finicky photographing the moon can be. I wanted to capture as much of the moon as possible. I kept accidentally touching the telescope (Not grabbing just slightly touching) every time I hit the shutter, and that threw off the framing. I’ve made a GIF from when this kept happening in the middle of trying to use the camera on full auto

I think I’ve posted my first successful shots. Here are some of the VERY first ones. This was before I realized I needed the variable adapter and only had a T-ring to telescope adapter.
