Affirmations for the unsure alterhumans and maybehumans:
You can still be alterhuman even if you acknowledge parts or all of your humanity.
You can still be alterhuman even if you find comfort in human rituals, culture, etc.
You can still be alterhuman even if you display human behaviors and characteristics.
You can still be alterhuman if you look or act nothing like your 'type.
You can still be alterhuman without dysphoria, euphoria, or both.
You can still be alterhuman even if you never plan to transition or present physically or socially as alterhuman.
You can still be alterhuman without blowing hundreds of thousands of dollars on gear.
You can still be alterhuman even if you aren't queer (surprisingly common misconception by the way!)
You can still be alterhuman even if you don't find the furry community appealing.
You can still be alterhuman even if there weren't 'signs' of alterhumanity in your childhood.
You can still be alterhuman even if you find aspects of alter/nonhumanity uncomfortable or scary (and this may change as you discover yourself!)
You can still be 100% alterhuman and 100% human at the same time.
You can still be alterhuman without misanthropy.
You can still be alterhuman without a spiritual connection to nature or a religion pertaining to nature.
Even if you aren't alterhuman, it's okay to be human.
Even if you aren't alterhuman forever, it's okay to recognize your humanity afterwards.
No seriously, it's okay to be human in some aspects or all aspects.
You don't have to constantly strive to be the 'most nonhuman thing possible' and you don't have to try and reinvent the wheel coming up with a new term thats 'more nonhuman' or 'further than humanity' than the last.
There are infinite ways to be alterhuman and you may never find a term to define yourself. You might not even find a species to label yourself as.
On the same coin you may find that your experience is painfully common, or not 'original' enough to warrant a 'true' experience. You have to remember that it's okay to be one of the gazillion black wolf psychological therians out there and that it is functionally the same (and has the same moral weight) as having brown eyes.
It's okay to be unlabeled.
It's okay if you wouldn't be considered alterhuman by the old standards from the days when alterhumanity was mostly on independent forum boards.
Grills and grilling aren't relevant anymore and it's better to block people that try to bring that back.
But it is never okay to lie to yourself to fit into a box that's too small for you.
I hate when people downplay animal death so fucking much.
can we NOT brag about killing birds with your car??? can we NOT play around with the specimens in a practical exam???
maybe its just me but animals need to be respected so much more than humans give them credit for.
this is one of the reasons im so misanthropic. you're telling me you have NO respect for the dead? at all? I get that accidents happen but when I see people making fun of anything dead I get pissed the fuck off.
when you hit something with your giant human death machine, you SHOULD feel bad. idgaf if it was "just a bird".
when you say a frog "deserved to die" because it was "disgusting", you need to get a grip on reality.
you're not better than a frog or a bird, you're the same if not worse. we are ALL animals. I hate that some humans think they are better than the creatures around them.
nature is a connecting and driving force that is not to be underestimated or assulted, its beauty is to be appreciated.
human impatience not being able to stop for two seconds to let an animal cross the road is baffling. the same with human INCOMPETENCE not understanding the simple rules of being respectful of the dead.
*EDIT: I'm aware its not ALL humans, I know many humans who have the upmost respect for the dead and appreciate them a LOT! This just tends to happen more in humans than any other creature.. ive never met another animal that disrespects the dead, personally.
This post was kind of just a vent on two of my friends who do not have respect for the life around them, and are careless about other creatures because they believe humans are the "superior" species and believe that every other creature is below them. This is NOT meant to be an attack on humans, but I am a misanthrope and it can be hard for me to word everything nicely due to that.
I am a polytherian, but I also identify as a lycanthrope (non medical), because I feel as if my core being is always canine, specifically, the coastal sea wolf!
as a gull kin im tired of some saying eating meat is "speciesism" and everyone should go vegan
i mean if someone wants to go vegan good for them but that doesnt mean everyone else has to. like it or not but we are bodily omnivores. not everyone can make it on a vegan diet. i also get euphoria from eating fish as im a seagull. not to mention this argument also implies theriform carnivores like felids should be hunted to extinction just cuz they cant survive without meat
i also believe anything we are meant to eat is technically alive, even plants, so ill never understand this argument. eating meat doesnt make you evil yall and this kinda thinking is also harmful to those with ocd, im one of them too
the fact that i kind of suck at technology even though i’m technically in the “most technologically advanced” generations is like really species euphoric because like foxes don’t use phones?? what that’s crazy???
Aint much but its honest work!! So hopefully someone finds this useful ^^
{under cut!}
Activities
Treadmill:
Running can be wonderful exercise and keeps you healthy as well as provides the freedom of running without actually having to navigate terrain! Dogs need plenty of exercise and walking/running will always be beneficial!
Simon says:
Specifically the game of repeating back a series of colors! Mental stimulation is so important for dogs and what better way than to memorize and repeat? They game can be bought at stores or online but any memory game is good for you
Training:
Set reminders on your phone for certain commands or watch a dog training video! You could also have a silent video with occasional squeaker or clicker sounds and do a task or command when you hear it (ie: pick up some trash and throw it out, drink water, sit, stand, etc!)
On that note, practice delayed gratification, an important skill every dog must face. This keeps dogs and owners safe when needing to prepare for uncomfortable situations and staying grounded, it's also good for preventing resource guarding! Take a moment before doing or eating something, allowing yourself to focus on staying there in the moment. Once the time is up, you can go for it! Increase the time gradually!! Dont wait too long through, patience is important but so is a warm meal
Obstacle course:
Whether you're an active Aussie or show breed prepping for that blue ribbon, an obstacle course is sure to be a fine source of exercise and enrichment! Setting up cones or other objects on the floor and maneuvering through and around them, putting a broom on some boxes and leaping over, or even just going to the park or gym and giving yourself a structured path and timing can be enough to feel the wind in your fur or the adoring cheer of the crowd
Enrichment (food)
Lick cups:
Add some yogurt, peanut butter, pumpkin puree, apple sauce, or a creamy broth to a container and freeze! Licking is a wonderful way to enrich and keep busy, as well as having a very calming or soothing effect. While a small sauce cup works, another option is a silicone mold or cupcake liner!
Note: I've tried this before with some plastic sauce cups, it's better to line the sides of whatever you're using, and very helpful of the mixture is thicker. Adding some peanut butter to some yogurt helped!
Licorice root:
Rawhides can be damaging or indigestible so these alternatives can help clean teeth and provide the sensation of chewing! They can be flavored as well but some folks aren't a fan of the natural or added flavors
Snuffle mat:
Sniffing is a dogs best friend, pop some beef treats, cereal, or anything with a strong smell and let that nose go to work!
Lick mat:
Whether you're craving savory or sweet, a lick mat can bring you some dedicated enjoyment without the long wait time! Used frozen or not, plenty of combos to choose from! Yogurt with granola and honey, gravy and bacon bits, peanut butter and chocolate chips. The possibilities are as endless as your taste buds allow!
Bonus: ice cube trays work as a slow feeder as well!
