The events at her previous company had changed Irene. She was bitter and disillusioned by the whole process, of all the time she spent for nothing, the effort she put in just to be forced to start all over again. Now her primary focus was practice, practice, practice.

So it was no surprise that she was sitting in her isolated corner of the cafeteria - she was quite content, to be honest, just getting on with life. It was all a competition anyways, every man for themselves, a competition to see who could debut first, who could make it to the top first. But she did occasionally miss the company of others, being able to laugh and chat about everything. She was yet to make a friend in the company, although she did exchange the conventional greetings with other trainees, Irene preferred staying in the practice room, squeezing another minute of practice.

This is why when the girl approached her, she didn’t realise she was actually coming towards her. Taken aback by the girl’s words, her eyes widened and she almost spat out the bulgogi in her mouth. “Huh? Y-yeah, of course, go ahead!” Covering her mouth and standing up from her seat slightly, she gestured at the seat in front of her. She then examined the other girl more closely. She recognised her - it was Jimin, another trainee of the company - she’d seen her perform and was often at awe with her unique voice. Now they was a sense of awkwardness between the two, considering she had never spoken to her properly. Irene opened her mouth, in attempt to break the ice. “I’m Irene, by the way.” There was a grin formed in her lips, as she could feel the start of a potentially her first friendship at Apollo.

Jimin smiled warmly and quickly introduced herself. “I’m Jimin, it’s nice to finally meet you. I hear so many good things about you-a gem among the trainees, if I’m allowed to say such things.” It was no exaggeration-Jimin was not one to start meaningless conversations, but with Irene, she wanted to let the girl know that she was genuine in her words. Irene already had experience in the entertainment world, and Jimin wanted to acknowledge her hard work and dedication. Besides, Jimin overheard occasional gossip from the trainees, and from what she heard, Irene was the envy of many.

Jimin then sat in front of Irene, and could sense the first-meeting awkwardness that was only inevitable. Hopefully, by starting the conversation, a natural dialogue would flow between the two. With a small smile, Jimin cleared her throat and began by saying, “I don’t usually do things like this. I’m quite shy myself, but..I felt like I see myself in you. I kept quiet during my trainee years, and it’s something I regret. I don’t want you to experience the same thing. I don’t know, maybe I’m misinterpreting this entire thing. Maybe you have friends and you socialize really well, and this is the last thing you must want to hear from a person like me. But, I just wanted you to know that you have a friend in me. We may not know each other well but, I think this could be a really good beginning for the both of us.”

Something in the Kitchen || Kyungsoo&Jimin

Dinner’s just around the cornerand he knows seldom people raids the kitchen at this time of the day. Even he would prefer to call some takeout so he can relax and laze around while he waits but right now, like any other rare days he have, he wanted to whip up something himself to eat. It’s not much really, just a simple dinner the ingredients in the kitchen allowed him to make but like always he ended up making more than necessary.

Kyungsoo stared at the steaming pot thinking the Khaos members could probably devour the food and there would still some left. With a sigh, he grabs himself a bowl and helped himself for a serving before sending the members a message about the food in case they haven’t had dinner yet. Placing his phone back down on the table he munches on his food. He can always leave the pot there in case people were hungry.

The spoon stops midair though once he saw someone coming into the kitchen looking tired from practice like he was hours ago and he offered her a small smile. He’s seen her around the company a couple of times but never had the chance to talk. They were busy, there was no time really. “Long day?” he asked cautiously and in a soft voice so as not to startle her in some way.

Jimin leaves dance practice exhausted, breathless, and most of all, hungry. Her stomach had rumbled within the past few hours, protesting its lack of any proper food (not even granola bars and yogurt in between could cure the grumbles of her stomach). Thus, Jimin has set off from practice on a quest to silence her stomach and eat a proper meal. Though, proper meals hardly existed in idol life; every meal was portioned off, and every calorie were counted.

Her quest has taken her to the cafeteria, as per usual. But, instead of finding the usual staff in the kitchen, she noticed a lone pot sitting atop of the stove. Did the staff forget to put this away? Jimin walks to the pot and examines it, the contents within the pot seeming fresh and newly cooked. Though she didn’t know what it was, it smelled amazing and she wanted a bite.

Grabbing herself a bowl, Jimin was about to serve herself some food when a she hears a soft voice ask her, “Long day?”

She looks toward the voice, and realized it was a Khaos member, Kyungsoo. The two have always seen each other around the company, but never had a proper conversation. Jimin notices that he too was in the middle of enjoying a meal, and, with a small smile, Jimin nods at Kyungsoo. 

“Yeah..practice can be crazy at times, and I’m starving. You wouldn’t happen to know who cooked this food, would you? It looks absolutely delicious.”

count on me || jimin and irene

Within her years at Apollo, Jimin never really reached out to the other artists. of course, she had small and polite exchanges, but she never became close with any particular person. In part, she was envious-she was envious of how some were able to freely laugh and converse with each other. Being an introverted only made Jimin’s quest for companionship all the more difficult. She wanted to reach out, but there was only so much she could do before her shyness overtook her. The girl was a walking contradiction; while performing, she was confident and outgoing. Offstage, Jimin was quiet as a mouse.

Pushing such thoughts out of her head, Jimin walks into Apollo’s cafeteria. Today was one of her rare free days, and she intended to spend it wisely by eating a good, hearty meal. Today’s meal of choice just happened to be Jimin’s favorite: bulgogi and rice. Such a meal went against her standard idol-diet, but Jimin decided she could indulge herself on days like these.

After silently thanking the chefs, Jimin quickly scans the cafeteria for a place to sit. It was practically empty, but her eyes manage to fall on a particular girl sitting by herself. She didn’t appear to look too pleased; her eyes were cold and she wore a frown on her face. Jimin didn’t know why, but she felt the need to sit with this girl. Maybe, just maybe, Jimin could make a new friend.

As Jimin approaches said girl, she realized on closer inspection that it was Irene, one of the newer trainees. Jimin wonders why such a person would sit alone unhappily-as far as Jimin knew, Irene seemed give off such a cool aura. Nevertheless, Jimin decides to take the plunge. 

“Hey..you don’t mind if I sit with you, do you?”

Biblioclasm: Is there something about themselves they wish fewer people knew about?

Sometimes, Jimin wishes that people weren’t so aware of her modeling past. Exposure to such an industry was helpful in entering Apollo, but it doesn’t do much in earning her credibility to other artists. She hears the hushed whispers and sees the narrow eyes others giver her when she performs-Jimin isn’t blind enough to know that they aren’t whispering praises. If anything, her past allows for others to judge her even quicker. Jimin wants others to know that she is much more than a pretty face, and that her skill level is much more than posing nicely for the camera. She is a rapper, a performer, and she’ll never stop working to change people’s perception of her.

Yonderly: What kinds of things do they think about when they zone out?

Jimin tends to zone out a lot-and what she thinks about varies depending on her mood. When she’s hungry, Jimin tends to think about food-where to eat, what to eat, and if she wants to someone to accompany her to get food. When she’s not hungry, Jimin thinks about unlikely situations and her reaction to them (though now she’s en route to being an idol, nothing seems unlikely anymore). At least, if she runs into her first grade crush by the corner cafe any time soon, Jimin will already have something in mind to bring up.

Cacodemonomania: Do they believe in the paranormal? If so, have they had any supernatural encounters?

Jimin holds a great respect for unseen forces that are at work. During her childhood, Jimin spent her summers with her maternal grandparents in the countryside. Her grandmother in particular was a shaman, and performed various religious ceremonies that both fascinated and terrified Jimin. She can recall various instances in which her grandmother danced vigorously for hours and at times, was possessed (well, to the townspeople and to Jimin, it appeared genuine). Though she was never harmed by any evil spirit when she was younger, such events have shaped Jimin into living a somewhat superstitious life. But if you asked Jimin, she would rather label it as living “cautiously” than “superstitiously”. After all, she wouldn’t want to attract any sort of dark or negative energy.

fallen star || jimin and seulgi

After what seems like another endless day in the dance studio with other Apollo artists, Jimin slumps to the ground in a breathless heap. She looks at the others in envy- they were all able to learn routines and dance with such ease. Jimin couldn’t even get through one routine without feeling like her lungs were about to leap out her throat. 

As she sits lifelessly on the studio floor, Jimin’s tired eyes scans the room, drifting from one corner to the next until her eyes land on the infamous Kang Seulgi-the one that Jimin has set her sights on to collaborate with. Though by no means was it an easy task, Jimin saw it as a challenge. She knew that Seulgi didn’t take her too seriously as an artist; however, Jimin hopes that by collaborating over a track, it would prove that she was indeed a determined artist that was meant to stay. For the occasion, Jimin has penned “Fallen Star”-lyrically, it composed of the hardships Jimin had to face while becoming a rapper. The song is a nod to the fellow artists who had to overcome obstacles for their dreams, and Jimin hopes that Seulgi too would be able to relate to the song as well. 

Jimin figures that there probably is no better time to ask than now. It’s rare to have combined dance practices with other artists, and since Jimin wasn’t close to Seulgi to begin with, Jimin might as well take the plunge and ask her now. She stood up from the ground, dusted herself off, and strided over to Seulgi. 

Seeing as she was catching her breath from practice as well, Jimin hesitated for a second, then finally asked, “Hi there. This may seem sudden, but since this is one of the rare times us artists can practice altogether...I was wondering if you’d like to collaborate with me on a track.”

in the practice room || jimin and jonghyun

Blaring, upbeat music emits from the fourth floor dance studio, and outside its doors is a jittery Jimin. She sighs to herself in frustration, as she doesn’t know why she’s being so hesitant. All she had to do was ask a favor from Jonghyun, and she didn’t know why it was so hard for her to go up to him and just ask. It wasn’t even an extravagant request-she needed help with her dancing, and seeing as Jonghyun is a very talented and capable dancer, it just made sense for Jimin to reach out and ask for some guidance...

...and yet, here she stood in a stand still, mainly because she hated asking favors from anyone. It was also partly due to the fact that she didn’t want a company junior to see her as lacking, as underdeveloped, but there was no point in denying that she does indeed lack as a performer.

Jimin, just do it already. Besides, think of it as gaining a new friend of some sort. You have to be friendly with everyone in the company in one way or another.

Stomping her feet, she peers over her shoulder to the door of the dance studio and breathes in deeply. “Well, here goes nothing.”

The timing was right, as Jimin walks in and asks as the music comes to a stop. She then asks in the most timid voice, “H-hello, this is Jimin..I always see you here practicing, and I just thought I’d turn to you since I need your help with a dance..”
