Louisiana
So I’ve been looking into the history of Louisiana and I can’t remember why. I think it was during our Midwest trip and I’m pretty sure we were talking about the food scene in AZ and New Orleans, LA was mentioned. Probably, most likely that was the reason. Anyway, since then I’ve been looking into making a pot of Jambalaya (especially now, when it’s fall and getting chillier, it seems like a nice warm dinner to come home to/cook, if you don’t know what Jambalaya is I’ll definitely go more in depth later, when I finally decide on making the dish). I was also listening to a lot of Jazzy-vibey music. Like loungey jazz on some days and then brassy jazzy upbeat vibes on other days and I welcomed the feeling of dancing in the streets while sitting in my car stuck in traffic.
Anyway, back to the point. I was listening to a Part-Time Genius podcast and, their most recent listen was about New Orleans and how France had a surplus of criminals and had no idea what they were gonna do with them until they decided that they were just gonna drop them off across the pond on a land that was just marsh and swamp. So thousands of criminals basically started up New Orleans. And then there were fires, and then the Spanish took over for a bit and rebuilt parts of it like the French Quarter has hints of Spanish in their buildings.
Of course I’m only going off based on what I’m hearing, I haven’t actually gone to the place yet. But I am planning to go, according to Hopper, tickets are cheap right now but it’s gonna go up by February (Mardi Gras). Dates are tentative but we’re looking at end of February (in time for Mardi Gras). So, fingers crossed.
