Legislative Art!

SO I went to the artist book fair for the ChiContemporary assignment. The fair was split between 2 or 3 areas and there wasn't much signage to direct the fair goers where to go. This event was free to the public and took place at the Chicago athletic society hotel Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this past weekend.  They really Packed the exhibitors into this little room and there was a lot to take in in such a small amount of time. I grabbed one of their info handouts and another zine that was free from a booth I visited that I thought was interesting. The Yellow small zine is from a workshop I attended put on by Homie House Press. The workshop was really great and we got to explore what it means to be a homie or where we find a homie leaving the word “homie” completely up to interpretation. 

Why is this important to our practice as future and current educators? i originally went to this event to gain inspiration for how my group might interpret our lesson into an art object such as a small book or something. Leaving the event I did see a few things that gave me good ideas but I mostly went away with a strong but silent reminder that networking is everything in the art world even as educators. Events like art fairs or curriculum fairs are so important to go to because it gives us new information or perspectives on things we hadn't thought of before.
