the son of asmodeus a prince of hell and a woman who had been deceived by the demon hence boring a warlock child. he was however seemingly normal appearing for years, being raised by his mother and step father until his golden cat eyes appeared and she became aware of the demon offspring she bore. it was the catalyst reason she chose to take her own life; she became unable to bear the weight of having a downworlder child. he found her and his step father found him, in his anger choosing to blame and point out the abomination that magnus was, causing the young warlock to kill his stepfather in a fit of rage.
following their deaths, he was taken and raised by the silent brothers in madrid, spain during the 17th century. it was in their care that he chose the name magnus bane.
...DECADES LATER...
after becoming high warlock of brooklyn and being well known by the shadowhunter jocelyn fairchild, he found himself at the mercy of the mothers desire to free her child of the memories regarding the shadow world. he did attempt to convince her to do otherwise but the shadowhunter was adamant and he obliged. he thought it a protection to feed the memories to the greater demon valak in case valentine should come looking for the cup.
eventually coming to own the club pandemonium in new york, he found himself settled. helping downworlders and holding himself at an arm's length of those who could hurt him emotionally. on one evening he’d come to spot too circle members and recognised clary. he additionally warned and escaped with his fellow warlocks, going against the suggestion that he could help clary...for the time being.

when the young fairchild approached him, asking for the return of the memories he had taken via jocelyn’s request. magnus came to deny and admit that he could not do so, if merely because he no longer held them and for everyone’s safety too. he revealed that he’d fed them to a demon. when circle members arrived, magnus fled leaving nothing but a button behind for the young fairchild to track him.
on his return via portal to his previously heavily warded lare, magnus came to find the place infiltrated by circle members who had killed many of the warlocks he had saved. it was on being saved by shadowhunters with the young fairchild, that he came to agreeing to aiding clary in getting her memories back. first moving the lare to a safer location.

after the death of his friend ragnor and waking up jocelyn, it should’ve been all hands on deck. help find jace, stop valentine...etc...etc. but alas on returning to his home, he awoke anywhere but new york. and being that he didn’t exactly portal in his sleep...he’s concerned to say the least.
