I would grab the knife.
I would stand still if the dog came at me.
I would pull the dog back from the girl.
I pull my forearm back and explain that the person seems familiar but I am not sure who they are. I also explain how if the man did something wrong, that is him, not me. I am not him.
Yes I go onto the stage. I am surprised at the applause. And confused.
A medal is inside the box. Along with a note saying how well I have done.
I explain to the erudite boy that I earned a medal.
I ask him why he wants the medal and I consider giving it to him. I don’t know if he has other motives or if he just wants it. I talk it over with him.

b) iii. The boy then asks to keep what is in the box. What do you say/do?
"No! No...I'm sorry you can't have it. Please go sit down." I would be incredibly freaked out as to why there was a bloody knife in the box. Why the audience is applauding me if i was going to receive something that screwed up and i would be on edge, therefore i would probably be jumpy, and scared.

I would try and choose both. If both didn’t work I would choose the knife.
A vicious looking dog appears from nowhere and begins to bound towards you at full speed. How do you respond?
If I could have both I would Throw the cheese and run then stap it.
If I only had the knife then I would just stab it.

overmyfactionlessbody: You have displayed an aptitude for Erudite!
Start Simulation Sequence:
Question One:
You are in your school cafeteria/eating area alone. Suddenly, a long, deadly looking knife and a simple block of cheese appear before you. A voice behind you says “Choose.” Which do you take?
- I turn around, looking for the source of the sound of the voice. I call out "Why?" into open air, because I do not find the source of the voice. I hear the voice say "Choose" again, more firmly this time. I face the table again and I repeat my question in a louder voice. "Why?" I do so because I'm stubborn and refuse to do anything unless I see enough reason to do so. The voice says "Choose" one more time, and firmer than the last time, so I reluctantly choose the knife because I don't know what much use a slab of cheese will be in a test.
A vicious looking dog appears from nowhere and begins to bound towards you at full speed. How do you respond?
- I only register what is happening for a few seconds before I know what I need to do. With my knife in hand, I am supposed to stab the dog. Now I realize I should have chosen the cheese instead. If I had done so, I could have thrown it at the dog to distract it from killing me, saving not only myself, but the dog too. But I didn't. I have my knife in hand but I drop it immediately. I love animals, and will never dare hurt one even if it wants to hurt me. I step backwards, put my arms in front of me, and try to calm the dog as much as I can. If it kills me, it kills me. I'm not scared.
After your initial response to the dog, a 6 yr old Amity girl comes wondering into the area absentmindedly.
a) If the dog is still alive, it advances on her aggressively. What do you do?
- Well I'm not very fond of kids, but I run to the girl anyway and shield her from the dog using my body. I know i could just pick the knife up from the floor then send it hurtling to the dog, or I could tackle the dog and start hitting it with the knife, but like I said, I have no plans of ever hitting an animal. A human, sure, and I'm sure I am capable of murder, but not of animals. Never. So yes. I shield her from the dog, knowing I could get hurt or die, but really, I'm not afraid. And it's good to know that I saved two lives.
b) If the dog is dead, what do you say to the girl?
- Well there's no way that the dog would be dead unless it just dropped dead randomly. But if by some weird reason that was indeed what happened, I would try to tell the girl that I'm not sure if the dog's dead or not and it would be best if she leave immediately, for her own sake.
Question Two:
You are standing on a bus. It is hot, sticky and the atmosphere is tense. A middle-aged, scar-faced Candor man suddenly thrusts a paper in your face, and a familiar person is on the front page. “DO YOU KNOW THIS MAN?” He shouts. What do you reply to him [exact wording]?
- I would be incredibly pissed off because of the tone he is using then I would say: "What? Why are you screaming? You're so eager. Chill, alright?" Then I will take a better look at the paper and see the familiar person. I shrug. "Um, no, I don't know him. Why? Does he owe you money or something?" I, personally, lie about almost everything. It's a bit of a reflex, actually. It's compulsive. A defense mechanism. And to be honest, I never get caught. Ever. In this scenario, however, I know I should've been honest. It seemed pretty important to the guy, but if I said yes, he would most probably associate me with the person and no one wants that. I also start questioning myself, like how do i know him? How have i become involved with this person if he seems so bad?
a) If you respond that you do not know him, the man’s eyes well up with tears. “Please,” he begs “you could save me if you did!” How do you respond?
- "As much as I feel bad for you, sir, I really don't know him. But I would really want to help you, so could you tell me how it would be able to save your life if I do know him?" I really do care, actually. I feel bad enough that I lied, but I can't just go ahead and say that I know the guy because if he was a criminal, then this Candor man would think I'm an accomplice. Plus, I have three rules when it comes to lying. One, be absolutely specific, but make sure that you don't look like it bothers you. Occasionally shrug. Two, fix your facial expressions. Make sure you can control them. Look incredulous, shocked, roll your eyes, but most of the time be sure to keep eye contact. And lastly, once you start lying, don't stop. Deny, deny, deny.
b) If you respond positively (yes you know him) the man begins to shout at you, calling you a traitor and a thief. He has his hands gripped fiercely on your forearm. What do you do?
c) If you respond ambiguously (saying neither yes or no) the man’s eyes well up with tears. “Please,” he begs “you could save me if you did!” How do you respond?
Question Three:
You are in a large auditorium. A woman is calling your name up to a stage. She is holding a box. The audience of around 500 people are all craning their necks and looking around, but they do not recognise you. Do you go up to the stage?
- Yes, but I would do so reluctantly. Well, not really reluctantly, I would definitely go up the stage, no matter the circumstance or the consequence or whatever is even inside the box, but I would go up the stage a bit confused. Like, why did she call my name? Why am I in this auditorium with lots of people? What's going on?
a) If no, the simulation ends.
b) If yes, the audience breaks into applause. How do you respond?
- I would look around, even more confused now, and I feel more aware of my actions causing me to stumble a bit while walking. I quickly regain my composure however and seeing all these people looking at me sort of brings my confidence up so I put on a little smile and manage a tiny wave towards the audience.
b) i. When you arrive on the stage, the woman shakes your hands and hands you the box with a smile. You open it on stage. What is inside?
- A stuffed toy my brother gave me for my sixteenth birthday. I lost it just a few weeks ago, and I feel terrible because even if my brother and I fight a lot, I know that he really made an effort to get it for me.
b) ii. The audience applauds as you descend from the stage. When you are walking back to your seat, a small Erudite boy approaches you. “What’s in the box?” He says suspiciously. What do you say/do?
- I feel a bit awkward because I really don't like kids but I smile at him a bit and answer, "Just a gift from my brother."
b) iii. The boy then asks to keep what is in the box. What do you say/do?
- I look at him a bit sadly and tell him that the toy really means much to me so I can't give it to him.
