OOC GAMZEE RAMBLES IN THE CLUB
(( @rifleshotsandflowerpots mun asked me how I thought Jade and Gamz got as close as they did and instead of writing a single response like a normal person I rambled a bit and now here’s some lovely BB Gamz lore :o) ))
Gamzee was really quiet when he first got introduced to the crew and brought along to them with the Baron, hid in his shadow all the time and shying away from literally all of the people and contact until he was drawn out and away to hang with the other younger crew kids (read; Karkat just dragging the clown out of the safe shadow to interact with) but he was definitely still very nervous and skittish, didn't talk much, didn't talk a lot, hummed and made little noises of agreement where it was needed, one or two word answers at best, didn't meet eyes, people aren't real safe and he'd been terrible with interacting with them, especially with the added thing of 'you're not allowed to attack/fight these guys, not really now behave' which put him way out of understanding how to deal with things.
But dogs? Dogs are good. They're safe things. No malice of their own. They only hurt in response to being hurt or on orders and that's understandable Gamzee got that understood that that was safe and secure and firm and known. And Bec? Bec is a really good dog. Bec is soft and enthusiastic and kind and Gamzee didn't have to worry about double meanings in his words and actions because Bec's a dog and it's really easy to believe that when Bec's excited to see him and have him around then it's genuine and pure and true and he just didn't have that with the others at that time, barely had that with the Baron so it was a good thing that he could cling just the littlest bit too.
And with Bec comes Jade who's steel-sharp and sugar-sweet and also happy to have him around and that's not... that's not a thing he's used to, not ever not at all and it's hard at first, it's really hard to accept that Jade's a genuine thing and not mocking him, not pulling his leg or trying to one-up or get something from him so he's sharp and abrupt and detached and snappish at time and all of the much like a dog that's been hurt too much to think that affection and kindness doesn't come with a sharp hand close behind but Jade's a stubborn thing and he likes her, he sees her genuine and chills out, starts to accept that maybe she's doing this to just be nice to him because she wants to and no other reason and that's nice, that's new. It's good he can learn that, can let her learn him and maybe do this friendship thing a bit.
