i’d like to point out that the argument made that “hollywood is catching on” is unfortunately entirely untrue. models are the thinnest they’ve been since the fashion industry started, and celebrities are airbrushed, nipped, tucked, and ridiculed publicly by tabloids for any cellulite or fat. the fact that there are now six, maybe seven, plus sized actresses that the public can name isn’t enough. if i wanted to get into that industry, i’d be typecast as the funny sidekick or the abusive mother until someone told me to lose the weight or get out. art should imitate life, and the average woman in america is a size 12. you have privilege over fat people, just own it and educate yourself.

It’s not necessarily a matter of being defiant, it’s simply a matter of not capitulating to someone lacking legal authority unless they immediately produce evidence. Onus probandi. I’m not sacrificing my academic career to a two-bit mall cop or lesser. There may be pride laced in there, but it is mostly being able to see an opportunity to get away. This is one of the many reasons why I lift far from home, because no one will be able to recognize and identify me, IF I find myself in that situation.

if loss prevention approaches you, they have the evidence. they wouldn’t make the stop if they didn’t, that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen for them, so if you’ve been stopped, know that they have the footage. if you try to run, best case scenario is you manage to get away. they still have footage and depending upon how much you stole and what it is, they could hand that over to police, to the media, to their district stores, etc. worst case scenario, and the most likely case, is you run, they catch you, and now you’ve got a pissed off and out of breath lp who is going to come down harder.

please don’t think this is an attack on you, it’s not at all! i just know from first hand experience and years of lifting that the fight is rarely worth it.

In regards to your later statement, I didn’t mean to imply any sort of attitude. I apologize if it came off that way!

While I know they would have something if they were to stop me, I’d take advantage of their inability to restrain me (at least in my state) in an effort to walk out. By no means would they receive any sort of aggression from me, because I don’t need to warrant them to use any force. I do greatly appreciate the words of caution, though! :)

On a similar note, let’s hope I never find myself in a bad situation. :)

Opening packages and putting the item in your bag/pockets/whatever. Seriously, don’t take things out of packages. If there are security tags on the packaging, take them off, but for the love of god stop taking things…

sorry if you've already been asking this before, but how do you lift from urban outfitters? I really want those bralettes!!!

they’re so cute right?!!

so most UOs physically take your items from you and count and hang them in the room for you. but, most also dont have cameras. so i either conceal the bralettes on the floor underneath other clothes draped over my arm (usually in the sale section or just when wandering around) and put them in my purse. orrrr i hang them onto the hanger of something else. right now UO has these massive chunky sweaters with high necks and they are good for double hanging lol

i hope that made sense!! UO’s regular staff is pretty attentive to what you carry around and such, since they dont have cameras they gotta do extra watchin, so try to not carry the bralettes in plain view around for like 45 minutes lol

all of that is pretty basic probably but i hope i helped if even a little!! if anyone else has anything to add, or any corrections, be sure to let me know!

also!! forgot to mention UO has RFIDs in their price tags if you didnt know, so you gotta rip that whole tag off and i either tape it to the bottom of a stool in the changing room or put it in the pocket of jeans or something else you took to try on. and take the jeans back out with you and dump em in the sale section or put them under other jeans so they wont be found quickly. there ya go. good luck!
