Snakes, serpentes and variations thereof - maybe it’s not even a super secret, but definitely something Aranea is ashamed of admitting. She had a near-death experience as a kid, getting bitten by one and being too poor to afford the antidote then - the pain, the hallucinations and the trauma were strong enough to make the girl irrationally afraid of these animals (and similar daemons).

People close enough to her will know about it - she needs to tell them because otherwise she becomes a liability in the field, too frozen to act when a damn nagarani appears out of nowhere. But everytime she needs to do it, Aranea feels absolutely bad - she hates this fear, she hates she cannot control it and she doesn’t know how to make it stop.

As someone who grew up in the heavily industrialized city of Gralea and saw the whole country become much more colder thanks to the Glacian being slayed (with Aranea herself lending a hand), Aranea often wished they had access to the sea - or at least better weather. It wasn’t until she got to travel as a mercenary and stayed mostly in Lucis and Accordo that she found out just how pleasant it could be outside.

But then the starscourge happened - and the sun was once more gone, along with most of the warmth. Aranea misses the safety that sunlight offered, of course, as well as the essential supplies and the general hope of living to see another day… But she misses these beaches terribly. Galdin Quay was one of the heaviest hits for the dragoon - seeing it overrun by daemons and abandoned… Was everything Galdin had never meant to be. 

It sounds terribly selfish, but if Aranea had one wish… She would wish for a glorious summer day by the ocean again.

[Sometimes writing in a different language is so ridiculously draining because you forget that word… That you don’t even know how to technically call it in your mother tongue, so you literally open google and start describing stuff and then add ‘english’ at the end with the hope that someone, somewhere, will have faced the same thing in the past.

I just had an issue now in a ask reply, but to me, my favorite example was the day I literally had to research grapes because… I didn’t know how to call that small bit that connects the grape itself to the branch and even in Portuguese I legit call it ‘the small sticky thing from the grapes’ when I’m plucking them apart. So imagine my surprise to find out it has a specific name - ‘stem’, I believe.

So… To everyone who’s roleplaying and writing fanfiction and doing anything in a language that is not our own. We are fucking awesome. I’m proud of us all going the extra mile to do research and learn stuff because we’re this passionate about our fandom.]
