I genuinely don’t think Bolaire thinks there’s anything (or very little if anything) wrong with killing people/taking over their bodies/his whole parasite schtick.

Just going off of the way he talks when “confessing” to Hal, Murray & Azune in cr4ep4, him saying he didn’t deserve any of the hate Thjazi gave him. That, when talking about the blackmail Thjazi had over him says “your brother had discovered things about me that could get me, i’d say put away but that sounds like i’d done something” and the fact that he says that what thjazi made him do is worse than anything he’s ever done (and as far as i’m understanding that would be steal, which is ALSO bad don’t get me wrong but is it killing multiple people & en masse taking away the autonomy of others levels of bad), makes me wonder if he feels any remorse for what actions he must take to consciously exist.

Does he justify it now by only going after shady people? Or people he thinks deserve it? How many people has he gone through? Does he even know? Or care?

And I do really hope we get to see him tackle this at some point in the campaign (although again ethics around killing in a dnd game are always a bit funky, so 🤷‍♀️). I think it would make for a very interesting discussion and character moment for Bolaire.

i know it looks like primus is the one who came up with the tachonis world domination plan but are we sure about that? because his ‘either we rule everything or are dead in a year’ line sounds like he’s also scared and following orders, and i think that maybe the person giving those orders is our beloved and benevolent grandfather nullus

this pinged something in my brain so i went back to e31 and checked - primus says "we'll rule this world before the year is out". iirc, candlefeast takes place on the autumn equinox. now, we don't know when the year changes in araman's calendar, but it's imo it's safe to assume that it's somewhere between the winter solstice (because of the Real World) and the beginning of spring (cause it makes sense). so, it seems that our timeline for what the tachonis are trying to do is, at most, half a year. i do wonder why they're rushing so much

a lot of what i have to say about campaign 4 so far has been said already (i have some thoughts on the whole bolaire-thjazi situation but i am scared by the Discourse at present time), BUT what i do want to mention is how stunned i am that brennan lee mulligan made me get invested in a macguffin. i'm not saying they're an inherently bad plot device, i just find them deeply uninteresting most of the time.

and yet. the stone of nightsong has history, it has a distinct purpose, a clear and understandable reason why it works the way it does. a historic elven artifact, crafted from the bones of a celestial so that elves who die won't have to pass through the underworld even for a moment on their way to faerie. it's specific, it makes intuitive sense. and it just so happens that the material it was constructed from, and the purpose it was made for, both make it incredibly coveted by two different groups for entirely different reasons. the tachonis want the calcidion to make their own celestial. the cloak wants its connection to faerie to open the way to the orcish afterlife. it's so intentionally designed, everything just click into place.

and then we get pc's with personal connections to each of these three purposes the macguffin can serve! vaelus values (or valued) its meaning to the elves and sylandri. for occtis, it was going to be his new heart once he turned into a nightmarish celestial. thaisha wants to see her people free more than anything. not only does the stone of nightsong have a tangible place in the history and current events of araman, it has a personal meaning to many player characters. brennan lee mulligan et al., you've done it again
