What is this thing called?

Does it have historical origins? Are these costumes inspired by any particular culture?

After great difficulty I believe we have found the answer. 

This thing is called a  袍肚 (pao tue, “robe belly”). Made of silky woven material or fur, it was used in Tang Dynasty China (618-907 AD) to prevent a soldier’s bow, quiver, or dagger from rubbing against their armor.  During the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) it was gradually adopted as a fashion statement by civilians. 

Now that you know what it is, you’ll start noticing it in all sorts of places, like:

Sword of the Stranger,

Dragon Age,

or Touken Ranbu, for example.

I have a crippling gravitino ball addiction I cannot stop grabbing them I don’t even have a permanent base so I don’t have the storage containers

I store all my items in the ships I don’t use

so I just fill up my inventory and 2 of my starships with balls

I have piles and piles and piles of sentinel tower maps from shutting down the sentinels to harvest my balls in peace because they hate it when I snatch the balls because they want to keep the balls for themselves

I have spent hours harvesting balls (in no man’s sky in game guys IN GAME IN GAME IN G-)
