i had this discussion with my buddy a couple days ago in which we were debating if we've ever seen any truly "casual" langauge between big boss and ocelot in the game canon. and it seems that the closest thing we actually get to a casual chat is the tropical vacation invite radio call from portable ops... which we all love very dearly....... but it did get me thinking about the (very few) interactions between them in mgsv, from the cassette transcripts.

the les enfants terribles conversation fascinates me in particular because of their use of casual language actually around les enfants terribles as an event. big boss, first of all-- "what's up?" and also "heh. you never did like the french" is casual enough, but I really like that you can tell that john's just enjoying the fact that they're conversing. he's got a smile in his voice. but aside from the tone, they're also being a little silly. for ocelot, intentionally butchering the pronounciation of les enfants terribles isn't something you're gonna do in front of your superior, but this is also something you're not really gonna do in front of a friend who considers les enfants terribles to be a touchy subject for himself at best, and traumatic at worst. we're talking about *the* les enfants terribles project: taking into consideration how much john reallly reeeeeeallllyyyy hated the whole concept of that and everything that came out of it, plus the other games' characterization of him in regards to his opinions on that whole thing, I dunno... the fact that john's joking about it with him could just mean growth. but it could also mean a whole lot of trust............ i like that
