Announcing the Farewell release date & boxed editions of Before the Storm
Now that the complete season of Life is Strange: Before the Storm is out we know many of you have been wondering about when the bonus episode “Farewell” will be released. We’re really excited to announce that Farewell will be releasing on March 6th 2018 alongside boxed editions of Before the Storm, which will release that same day in the US and on March 9th in PAL territories.
As with everything we do with Life is Strange, we spent a lot of time listening to what fans liked and wished for, after we released the boxed edition of the first season back in 2016. For this edition of Before the Storm, we therefore created three different versions for you to choose from:
The Vinyl Edition includes an exclusive vinyl set of the original soundtrack; a physical artbook featuring art from Life is Strange: Before the Storm plus the original soundtrack on CD, all beautifully contained in an exclusive presentation box. This version will be available through the Square Enix e-stores and can be pre-ordered here.
The Limited Edition will be available from participating retailers and will include the physical artbook featuring art from Life is Strange: Before the Storm plus the original soundtrack on CD.
Alternatively, a Standard Edition will be available too if you’d prefer to have just the game on disc to add to your game collection. This will initially only be available in the US and will launch in other territories at a later date.
All three editions also include the following digital content:
Bonus Episode: ‘Farewell’ - play one last time as a young Max Caulfield in a special bonus episode…
Mixtape Mode – Design your own playlist from the Life is Strange licensed soundtrack and listen to it alongside a cinematic scene from the game
Outfit pack – Change up Chloe’s look with three new complete outfits. Includes the Punk Doe, Hawt Dawg Man & Illuminati outfits
Episode 1 from the first Life is Strange season
Finally, you can receive these exclusive figurines of Chloe and Rachel if you pre-order the box edition from participating retailers. Remember to double check that your preferred retailer is offering these before pre-ordering!
Exciting times! Which version will you be picking up? Let us know!
LifeIsStrange: It’s been an incredible year for #LifeisStrange and 2018 is looking great too!
🎆 Happy New Year from the Life is Strange Teams at Square Enix, @deckninegames and DONTNOD! 🎆
We’re hosting an AMA with Deck Nine Games on the Life is Strange subreddit this Thursday! This is your chance to ask them anything you want.
You can get your questions in early on this subreddit post.
Announcing Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Dear Life is Strange fans,
Thank you for your incredible support over the last few years. We know you have been eagerly anticipating what is next for Life is Strange so we really hope you enjoyed the announcement trailer for Life is Strange: Before the Storm and are looking forward to the release of the first episode on 31stAugust 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam).
So yes, that means there are now TWO Life is Strange projects in development, with DONTNOD Entertainment having also recently announced that they are also working on a new game. You’ll be the first to hear when we have more news on their game but for now, let’s focus on the newly announced Life is Strange: Before the Storm.
Before the Storm is our reaction to so many of you asking for the chance to revisit Arcadia Bay. This is where Denver based Deck Nine Games come in. Deck Nine Games are veteran game developers who, although being a new narrative games studio, have an extremely talented team from videogames, TV and film and a powerful set of proprietary tools called Storyforge. Please join us in giving them a very warm welcome to the Life is Strange family. You’ll get to meet the team and see their fantastic work during E3. Be sure to tune into the IGN livestream on Monday 12th June at 12:00 noon Pacific for the world’s first gameplay reveal.
You will also no doubt be excited to hear that Ashly Burch, Chloe’s original voice actor, makes a welcome return to the family this time on writing duties. Fans of Ashly will know she’s an Emmy nominated writer and it’s great to have her writing dialogue for a new younger, 16 year old Chloe, this time voiced by extremely talented actress Rhianna DeVries.
Ashly is writing alongside a passionate and talented team of writers at Deck Nine lead by Lead Writer Zak Garriss. The writing team have been working hard to create a compelling and rich three episode story that’s set before the events of the first game and focuses on when Chloe meets Rachel. Unlike Max, Chloe has no rewind power, so we highly recommend you think before you speak..! Chloe’s sharp tongue will require her to live with whatever she says and as before, every single action and choice will have a direct consequence in the short, mid and long term.
We know that many of you would love to see more from Max. Due to the way in which the first game ended, we didn’t want to canonize one group of players’ choices over the other – a sentiment echoed strongly by our community. That being said, we will still be giving you one final chance to play as Max through the self-contained bonus “Farewell” episode, which takes place long before the events of Before the Storm. This stand-alone bonus episode, will release after episode 3, and is only available as part of the Deluxe Edition of Life is Strange: Before the Storm. Rest assured, anyone purchasing the complete season of Before the Storm will get the full story. Max’s ‘Farewell’ episode really is just a bonus episode for those who would like to play as her one final time.
Thank you once again, for all your dedication over recent years. We can’t wait to hear what you think about Life is Strange: Before the Storm. There will, of course, be many more details revealed during E3. Make sure you check out the below video, made by the team over at Deck Nine Games, as there are many new details in to dive into. There is also an FAQ here but as usual, do let us know if you have any other burning questions in the meantime!
Many thanks,
Alternate Chloe My first actual Life is Strange commission guise!! Alternate, blond-haired Chloe. (Not the episode 4 version that’s screwed up) What’s she thinking about…
Wow! This is awesome! Thank you for sharing it with us!
We’re excited to announce our Life Is Strange Environmental Art Contest!
This is a Fan Art Contest. Submit concept art style pieces, either in 2D or 3D, depicting an environment from the world of Life Is Strange that we haven’t seen before. This might be an environment that we either know exists in the world but we never saw in the game (such as Warren‘s dorm room or Max‘s house in Seattle) or could potentially exist in the world of Life Is Strange.
There will be a Winner in the 2D Art category and a Winner in the 3D Art category, with a prize for each.
FRIDAY MARCH 3RD – FRIDAY MARCH 31ST
MAIN PRIZE: Dontnod Entertainment will be providing Life Is Strange Art Prints, signed by members of the team. There will be 1 Art Print for the 2D Category Winner and 1 Art Print for the 3D Category Winner.
We do not yet know what these Art Prints will feature or who will be signing them. Details will be revealed at a later date.
RUNNER-UP PRIZE: A $50 Steam Voucher will be awarded to 1 Runner-Up from either the 2D or 3D Category.
PRIZE DRAW PRIZE: 1 Winner will be chosen at random from all entrants to receive a rare Life Is Strange 2017 Calendar.
We’re delighted to announce that Michel Koch, Co-Director & Art Director of Life Is Strange, will be a Guest Judge on this Contest. No pressure!
The remainder of the Judges will be Staff of Life Is Strange Fans. All entries will be judged using the ‘Borda Count’ method, which awards points based on how each person ranks them. The Winners are determined by the entries that receive the most Total Points.
Yes. 5 entries from each Category will shortlisted. We do not yet have a date for when the Shortlists will be announced due to the availability of Guest Judge, Michel Koch. However, we expect the Shortlists and Winners to be announced within around 2 weeks of the closing of the Contest on 31st March.
Your Art must depict an Environment that fits within the world of Life Is Strange. So please don’t bother submitting amazing fantasy or hard sci-fi pieces as they won’t be eligible.
You can submit 1 entry each to both the 2D and 3D Categories but you can only win (and only be Shortlisted) in 1 of them.
You may use ‘photobash’ or photo manipulation techniques to produce your concept art in the 2D Category. It does not have to be drawn/painted.
For 3D, please do not make excessive use of existing assets from either Life Is Strange or any other games. The majority of the models should be either modelled by yourself or obtained from 3D content marketplaces.
You can include some characters in your scene if you want, but they must not be the focus. This is an Environment Contest and in environmental art, figures are usually only included (often in low detail or silhouette) purely as a reference for scale.
The Contest closes on Friday March 31st. Any entries submitted after this date will not be eligible.

Our Staff Artist Mai created this depiction of Brooke‘s Room as an example. Here’s a quick breakdown of the kinds of details we’re looking for in your entries.
EPHEMERA: Posters, postcards, photos. Details like these can tell us a lot about the character this environment is connected to. What bands they like, what sort of personality they have, etc.
ACCESSORIES/HOBBIES: Similarly, accessories such as the iPod dock, books or the box for Brooke‘s drone tell us a little bit about their hobbies and interests.
LINKS TO OTHER CHARACTERS: The ‘Go Ape’ pamphlet on the floor connects Brooke to Warren. Any item in your environment could tell us about any number of characters. Maybe Nathan‘s trademark red jacket is hanging on the back of a chair in your interpretation of Courtney‘s dorm room, suggesting that she either borrowed it off him one cold night, or he stayed over…
MOOD/LIGHTING: The time of day you set your scene is important to create the right mood or atmosphere. The style and/or colour of the lighting in the environment can inform us about the state of mind of the character who usually inhabits it.
EASTER EGGS: Easter Eggs, i.e. obscure or easily-missed references, are a fun way to keep the viewers of your piece interested as they try to discover them. The box of salt on Brooke‘s desk in this scene is a reference to her ‘salty’ character trait. Your Easter eggs can be a little more subtle of course. And you don’t have to include any at all, but it might be interesting to see how many fans can spot them.
Here is just a selection of websites that might help you with inspiration, resources and tutorials. If you have some suggestions of your own, please let us know in the Comments below and we’ll add them to the list.
