First off: thank you for taking the time to address this issue, finally. It still should not have taken several years and dozens upon dozens of complaints to force you to finally speak up. Speaking of which.
Five years ago I made a private personal post on social media because I was angry and grieving the loss of 4 Black officers who were murdered while serving their community and country.
Really? You said those racist things about black protesters because you were angry about the deaths of “four black cops” that you’re not even willing to name or reference? How is that any different from saying “I’m not racist, I have black friends?” If you’re honoring their sacrifice, that seems like the least you could do, or you’re just using them to absolve blame for your actions, which is just as fucking despicable as the shit you said in the first place.

Not an excuse. The fact remains that many, many people took the time to express why what you said on your Facebook page was inexcusably racist, and not only were you silent on the matter, the entire staff stuck its head in the sand and waited for the issue to disappear. If you knew it was wrong, and were corrected as such, you should have made a statement then. That’s the best you can muster? You were toeing the party line out of job security and self-preservation? Great, so you were just too cowardly to do the right thing because it meant facing consequences. You’re a paragon of personal growth.
Going forward, I will continue standing with every Black American in the fight against racism, and keep Flight Rising an environment where equality is not only expected - it’s required.
This is NOT the same thing as saying you were wrong. A lie of omission is still a lie. The ONLY thing you had to say, in so many words, was “I was wrong for what I did, and I’m sorry.” You have not actually acknowledged that the things you said were wrong or that they hurt people, and you are clearly not sorry for having done so. Taking refuge behind co-opted progressive language is a common corporate tactic nowadays, and you’re deluding yourself if you think you’re not doing the same damn thing.

It hurts me to see people die who stood up to protect the defenseless. But, it hurts me even more to see those same people turn on the community or be deaf to their cries for help. I watched as a thug wearing a badge pinned a dying man on the ground and ignored his pleas for help. George Floyd died on that street, his life seized by government power wielded by a man who broke his oath.
“A man who broke his oath” So you still idolize cops, gotcha. The whole point of the Black Lives Matter movement is to expose institutionalized racism, and EVERY COP IS COMPLICIT IN ENFORCING IT, INCLUDING YOU. By placing the blame on individual action rather than systemic violence, you’ve obviously learned nothing. Also, way to give yourself away with “thug,” a coded term more often than not used to dehumanize people of color. Might want to have run this by a PR agent first, huh?
Campaign Zero is a project focused on reducing use of force by police in the United States. They focus on the scientific data involved in the application of police use of force and use it to lobby for effective reform. One of their goals is to change the terms in police union contracts that protect officers who have broken their oath and no longer serve the community.
