Embo

A fearsome bounty hunter of few words, Embo was quick to disable his target, be it by a single trained shot from his bowcaster or a decisive blow from his pan-shaped hat, which could be hurled at an adversary with deadly accuracy. The hat also doubled as a shield when the Kyuzo directly charged his target head-first. A freelance hunter, Embo worked with the likes of Sugi and Boba Fett, loyal only to his faithful anooba, Marrok.

The Twins

Cousins to the late, great Jabba the Hutt, a pair of fraternal Huttese siblings, referred to simply as the Twins, have designs for the criminal empire they see as their birthright. Overcoming their limited mobility and obvious avarice by being carried aloft on enormous litters, they are ferried along the streets by a legion of devoted servants, including a drummer who announces their arrival and a gladiator who stands guard.

Rotta the Hutt

Heir apparent to the Hutt empire, Jabba's infant son was barely old enough to slither before his conniving and power-hungry great-uncle, Ziro, already had him marked for death at the time of the Clone Wars. Ziro arranged for Rotta to be Huttnapped as part of an elaborate scheme to discredit the Jedi Knights and prevent them from entering an alliance with the Hutts.

The Pits

The Pits describe the notorious fighting arena of Shakari where burly gladiators test their fighting prowess against vicious beasts to the delight of a bloodthirsty audience.

Shakari

A world where the criminal underworld holds power, Shakari is marked by city-sprawl and tough streets. Citizens bustle about trying to avoid trouble, but are drawn to such brutal entertainments as gladiatorial combat.

A loyal companion

As Embo made more regular appearances, he gained an anooba companion named Marrok. “[Concept artist] Pat Presley took that rough design and refined it and I gave Embo the dog,” Filoni says. Well known for his appreciation of wolves and other animals, the anooba was a nod to one of Filoni’s favorite characters from another franchise, G.I. Joe’s "Snake Eyes," who has a dog named Timber. “I always liked that combination of a warrior and dog,” Filoni says.

Beyond the G.I. Joe inspiration, Embo’s original anooba was also steeped in Earthbound legends. “The name Marrok comes from Arthurian Legend and a story called ‘Sir Marrok: A Tale of the Days of King Arthur’ by Allen French,” Filoni reveals. “In the story, a knight of Arthur's round table returns from the Crusades and is transformed into a wolf by a witch who has taken over his kingdom.”

Embo and Marrok made several appearances over the years in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with ties to Jabba the Hutt and a paying gig as security detail for the Grand Hutt Council amid the rise of Maul’s Shadow Collective, several jobs with young Boba Fett’s crew, and an assignment targeting political enemy Rush Clovis for Darth Sidious (just to name a few).

In The Mandalorian and Grogu, we meet Embo in a new era, the age of the New Republic. The times have changed, along with Embo’s companion, but his loyalty still remains up for sale. “I figured that Marrok was probably no longer around by the time of the film, so we gave Embo a new dog named Keibu,” Filoni notes, before teasing “I did come up with a story about what happened to Marrok so maybe one day we can share that somehow.”
