also we have GOT to collectively come to terms with the fact that me or any other stranger online disliking or even making fun of something you like is not saying “no fun allowed” “no one can ever enjoy this” you have simply got to grow a spine and be able to like the shit you like. you don’t even have to defend it! like 90% of the media i really enjoy is divisive and half my friends actively hate it. i really don’t give a fuck though because i like it. you can write whatever you want! you’re allowed! even if it’s MY least favorite genre or style of writing and i have active distaste for it!

like, clearly, despite the fact that i really hate Tumblr Prose and attempted to unflatteringly parody it, a LOT of people unironically liked what i produced. which means there’s an audience for it! it’s also the current style du jour for like, every single YA and romantasy novel on the market! i do not think me saying “i think this shit is fucking goofy” is going to hurt anyone materially!

i need to come up with a way to say “i mean like, movies for grownups” that doesn’t make me feel like a villain

well, first you spend half an hour reassuring them that kids movies are fine and movies for young people are fine and the movies aimed at younger demographics are fine. And kids movies can be just as good and nuanced and valuable. But simple stories are fine too. And its fine that popculture block buster movies are aimed at families for mass appeal to bring in the max amount of revenue and put butts in seats. And its fine that studios hedge their bets and aim for known franchised IPs that will produce a high ROI because of the nostalgia factor because its fine that its the 5th sequel spinoff reboot of the story they liked as a kid. Its fine actually, you have to promise that you have no issues with any of that.

It's just that you would maybe sorta like to watch anything other than that.

And then you're a villain who hates fun.

Artist statement below (long read)

Long story short, and if it wasn't already obvious before from my daily complaints, I hate working. I. Hate. Working. I hate working I HATE working I hate. working I hate working I hate- yeah.. I hate waking up every day and spending all my daylight hours making money for rich people I'll never meet. I hate never being able to see the fruits of my labor. I hate that my fruit is stolen from me right before my eyes. I hate making slave wages in the richest country in the world. I hate that I never have any free time to just enjoy life and relax. I hate that my value as a human is stripped down to having a job. I hate that my health is dependent on having a job. I hate that my livelihood is dependent on a job. I hate that people only see me for what I can do for them. I hate that people only see me for how much money I can make others. I hate how disposable I am in the workforce. I hate that no matter how hard I work it'll never be enough. I hate how my individuality is forced out of my hands and replaced with a boring soulless uniform. I hate that I feel like I'm being dramatic when I say every day I just want to absolutely break. down. from both mental and physical exhaustion. I hate that I know I'm not being dramatic but others make me feel that I'm being dramatic. I hate that I cannot truly put into words how much I hate working. I hate hate hate working and hate even more that I know if I don't do it I will die. But it feels like I'm slowly dying anyway and I hate that I have to go to work anyway. I hate that I have to just put on a smile and carry on. I hate working. I hate having a job. I hate employment. And I hate how much I hate it. I just want to rest. I just want to rest.

My art is generally characterized by how much color I use. I love using color and consider myself a bright and colorful person. But at work I just feel dark. I don't feel like talking to people. My body hurts. I'm irritable. I'm exhausted. But I have to put on a smile and pretend to be happy to help bc that's what's demanded of me. And I hate that. Employment is a performance and ironically I still feel unseen and unheard even performing. Only ever being noticed for my blue vest. And I hate that. I hate this... I hate this so much.
