Visions | David
Well, he wasnât sure what to expect, really. He knew he possibly shouldâve approached David sooner about his dreams but heâd always thought of it to be nothing more than that of nightmares. Unfortunately, it didnât seem to be the case. But still, he refused to let others know of this.
..At least, thatâs how he wanted to keep it, seeing as David now wanted to bring him all the way to the Bishop. Smiling just a bit, more in fear than anything else, he nodded and stood up, eyes following Davidâs every moment.
â..Okay. But please donât let anyone else aside from the Bishop know about this. If word gets out, then please donât let them disclose that you heard it from me. I donât want to worry my family.âÂ
âOf course,â David nodded, swinging the satchel over his shoulder, âI will keep this conversation with upmost confidentiality.â
In his haste to get the report as fast as possible, he was unaware that his steps were heavy and his footsteps echoed loudly throughout the house from the wooden flooring, as if he was stomping.
With swift movements, he took his cloak and threw it around him, ready to leave any time now as he held the door open, âSon,â Goddess, he hasnât called Antonio âsonâ out loud since the boy was 12, âAntonio, I promise you that if word does comes out about it, no one will ever find out it was from you. Iâll take it with me to the grave if I must. Your family will be okay.â
Visions | David
He frowned. Now thatâs something that sound serious.
Sitting up, he thought about Antonioâs words carefully. Should they take that as a warning? Should they just shrug it off?
âŠ
No. Dreams tend to have prophetic meanings to it. Maybe he should take this into consideration and dig deeper, see if he could find anything else.
âHas that dream been constant?â He pressed, âWhat was the last thing dreamt of before that? I need to be sure so I can make a report the high priestess.â
âThere was a lot of fire.. a lot. It burned brighter than Lovinoâs flames. I-I..â He held his head with both hands, a few tears trickling from his eyes. There were more images he saw. The fate of his family, not just the family he has with Lovino but his entire family. There was so much pain, screaming, so much..
Raising his head, he rubbed at his eyes. âYeah, for the past month,â he explained, unsure of how to respond to the second question. âItâs been the same thing, over and over. Itâs always the same. Nothing changes. Iâve never even seen the king of Pararizon but he was in my dream. Do you think.. it means something more than just being fearful of another war?â
At each word that Antonio uttered, David nodded and his eyes slowly widened the more Antonio talked and became specific with the important details. He realized at this point that there is a potential for something serious to happen in the near future.
"Goddess almighty why didn't you say anything before?" He didn't mean to sound frustrated but the mere fact that Antonio's dream could've been a reality over the last month and no one knew is beyond horrifying. Taking a deep breath, David quickly made a move to the book shelves and pulled out two thick books on Divination and placed them in his satchel.
"Get yourself ready to repeat your story, Antonio, we're going to the Bishop. I'm sure she'll understand why I skipped the high priestess since I'm going to bring the Oracle with us." And bringing the Oracle to make a direct report to the Bishop immediately means serious business.
The plaza of Pararizon is far too crowded and maybe David regrets breaking into Antonio's store just to make him human-looking but he needs to find his wife so it's not like he has any other way to do so except... mingle with the species he holds quite the resentment too. Sighing, he squeezed past the throngs of people (looks like their king has a message) and accidentally bumped into some--wait he knows that hair. "Erzi?"
Erzsebet hid within the crowd, dressed in the clothing of a common woman within Pararizon. Due to having given herself a dosage of the potion Antonio had left for her, she was able to become much more human. Her ears lacked their pointed features and her eyes seemed to shine less - they appeared quite dul, really but retained their green color. With hands shifted into her pockets, she stood quietly, listening to the announcement. Something about the King warning those that Vervania was declaring war against them.
âLying piece of shit,â she thought as the pain within her back, from her scars had resurfaced into her mind. âAll you ever did was lie, and lie and hurt those who trusted you.â Soon enough, she heard someone speak to her. Wait a minute. That voice! Quickly turning around, she faced the man andâ
â..David?!â Clicking her tongue, she encircled one arm around his and dragged him out of the area, quickly searching for a more quiet spot to have a word with him. âWhat are you even doing here? G-Get back to Vervania.â
It didnât surprise the blonde when Erzsebet suddenly wrapped an arm around his and dragged him out and away from the crowd to some plaxe more quiet.
âLooking for you, obviously,â he responded, trying not to sound too upset than he is actually feeling. First, his wife lied to him about not leaving for Pararizon; second, he had to deal with rude and bigoted humans while looking for the said wife and their terrible attitude only intensified his growing hatred toward the citizens of the the kingdom heâs currently standing in, âYou said you wouldnât go here and yet here you are amongst them. What were you thinking?!â
He crossed his arms, âNo, Iâm not going back without you,â And he could care less right now if heâs acting like a kid right now.
There was a defiant huff from her rose colored lips. Her husband was being inconsiderably difficult right now, though in reality, so was she. It was as if all the years she had spent being a quiet, kind and nurturing elf had vanished from her being. It was as if her old reckless self had returned - she didnât care about the consequences. Well, not on herself, anyway.
Furrowing her brows, Erzsebet took a step away from him, eyes averted from his form. âDamn it, David,â she murmured, eyeing the crowd from afar. All she wanted to do was get closer to the king and to take him out in an instant. She hated his guts. He was one of the people that betrayed her back then. One she had trusted with her life, her friendship but suddenly.. blades fell onto her back.
âSeriously. Just.. Just go back, alright? They need you in Vervania. Youâre one of the best priests there. Youâre safe there, anyway. Iâll be home in like.. two days, câmon.â
âI am not going back without you,â he stubbornly refused, huffing, âDozens of other priests and priestesses have been ordained since my own, thank you very much, and theyâre all much more talented than I will ever be. Theyâll be fine at the temple without me.â
Although he was well aware how the Archbishop preferred his presence (along with a few others), nothing would change his mind about seriously sticking around at this point, not when a loved oneâs life is at stake again. He hates feeling helpless. The idea of history repeating itself terrifies him so much he would do about anything to not let it happen again, not while he is still able.
âSo much can happen in two days,â he added, running a hand through his hair. He could feel the desperation starting to set in already, âWhat if something bad happens? What if whatever youâre trying to do backfires? Please, Erzsi, I almost lost you once but what if I lose you this time around? I donât think I can take it. Please just come home with me.â
He looked down as he stood in front of the other. "Am I in trouble?" He muttered.
David stared at the boy in front of him. It was obvious that what Alfred did was something very worrying and something theyâve talked about numerous of times although sometimes heâs even not sure anymore if itâs still called trouble by now but technicallyâŠ
âI hate to say this but,â he began, placing a hand on the boyâs shoulder, âYou are. Heaps of it actually.â
He knew Alfred has point but still. Itâs not going to easily shake off the fear and resentment David has for the humans. One his sisters almost died in their hands while she was quietly studying but fortunately managed to escape albeit injured during the point when the two kingdomsâ relationship was starting to become sour. Likewise with Erzsebet who also almost died during the War. And then thereâs everyone else he knew and never saw again because of the humans. Thinking about it made him shudder.
âI admire your determination but,â he sighed, âItâs too risky. Itâs a gamble. You wouldnât know if that âniceâ human is genuinely nice, they could turn their back on you just as easily as they befriended you and sell you out to the worst of the humans. And thatâs not the worst part yet!â
He ran a hand through his hair. Honestly, kids and their ideals these days, âWell then do you have any ideas on how we could help? Because I need one.â Perhaps he could try listening to what else Alfred has to say. If thereâs one thing he learned in parenting is to always listen to your childâs side of things, as ridiculous as they may seem at times.
âOkok. We get Toni to turn us all human then we sneak into the kingdom and find some people whoâs on our side and tell them to meet us at that meadow at some time then weâll get together and plan our next move!â He smiled. âEasy, right?â
Hey.
Didnât Erzsi also talk about having more human features to scare the boy just earlier with him?
Like mother like son.
âI donât know Alfred,â honestly the idea is as ridiculous as he first heard it from his wife earlier, âI heard some humans can see through magic or something? Plus, it looks easier said than done. By the end of the day, the least we could get is either one or none at all.â By this point heâs just low-key trying to convince Alfred that it is not a convenient thing to do and just a waste of time.
âBut one would be just as great! If we got one on our side, they could go find others or convince them! Canât you see what I see?â He pouted.
No he cannot and he is finding it troublesome to imagine it. Sighing, David rubbed his forehead.
âThe chances are too slim. Thereâs a higher risk that that will back fire and⊠and⊠history will just repeat itself,â as he said this, he pushed the images of everyone in the battlefield out of his mind. The visions are too clear; itâs like it just happened yesterday and itâs only a miracle he survived such a war, âItâs impossible, Alfred. Itâs a hopeless case.â
The plaza of Pararizon is far too crowded and maybe David regrets breaking into Antonio's store just to make him human-looking but he needs to find his wife so it's not like he has any other way to do so except... mingle with the species he holds quite the resentment too. He crossed his arms, âNo, Iâm not going back without you,â And he could care less right now if heâs acting like a kid right now.
[there's a note left on your desk, within your home] [it doesn't say who it's from but the handwriting should be enough evidence as to who left it] [over it are stains - tear stains, perhaps?] "I'm sorry. I love you, David."
[the house is unusually quiet for this time in the morning] [he sips his water alone in the table and his intuition is telling him that something is wrong] [makes his way to his study and finds a note and a heavy feeling drops in his stomach] No. Oh no. This bad. [gets his cloak and hastily runs out of the house for the third time that week] [Antonioâs got some explaining to do]
"David. He did it /again/."
He doesnât have to ask to know who sheâs talking about and sighed deeply, âAlright what did he do this time?â
Erzsebet giggled softly. Sheâd seen the way Chiara reacted around David in the past, and even the present. She wasnât all to sure as to why though. Simply suspected it due to being shy around elves in general. But she had to admit, seeing David with such a confused expression always made her heart soar - he looked a bit too cute for a priest.
âShe can make use of the trees then, perhaps. I donât expect her to travel into Pararizon, after all. Because if Alfred ever steps foot in there againââ A huff fell from her lips as she pulled Davidâs face an inch away from hers, only to brush her lips against his. âLetâs not worry about all this. Iâm going to rest up. My mind is far too tired to think.â Letting go of him, she made her way into their room.Â
â..Goodnight, my dearest love.â
More than a century later, he still doesnât think heâll ever get over her kisses. When the war was at its worst about a hundred years ago, he thought the last time heâd get to hold and kiss her like this was during a ceasefire minutes before dawn and then sheâs back at the front lines again. His hands found its way to cup her face as she kissed him oh so chastely. With their foreheads touching as she pulled away slightly to speak, he listened to her speak.
âIndeed you are,â he responded softly, letting go of her,âGood night. Sleep well.â
He gave her a soft smile as she disappeared into the doorway of their room.
For a long time, he stayed where he was, turning his gaze to the window and watched the moon. His smile dropped slowly as the moon seemed to tell him that there was something wrong although he couldnât figure out why because as a Moon Elf, it became a natural instinct to trust in whatever the moon would âsay.â Maybe his brief study on the stars and other celestial bodies all those years ago did have a purpose after all, for the stars too seemed to be agreeing with the moon.
"David. He did it /again/."
He doesnât have to ask to know who sheâs talking about and sighed deeply, âAlright what did he do this time?â
Again, her body melted as she felt his touch. It was always in his embrace that she felt the most safe. During that last war, when it raged on and on, she had feared sheâd never be able to feel his warmth. Many times, sheâd grow closer to death but each time, she fought through it, clinging to life with her bare hands. âI love you too,â her eyes lit up significantly, pulling away once he did.
â..Mm, good question.â Albeit she had said she wouldnât go along with her plan anymore, she was sure as hell still going to do it. Behind his back? Yes. There was no need to worry David more than she already did. âPossibly Chiara. Sheâs a wonderful Valkyrie. Quite strong, nimble and I love her attitude.â
âChiara?â He doesnât really know a lot Valkyries save for those on border patrol who stay at the temple to rest before moving out as soon as the dawn breaks, âIs she the brown-haired one used to look terrified whenever she sees me?â Heâs not sure why she always hid whenever he was around during his acolyte days when he was required to stick around the place. Heck, he never even talked to her except that one time he was assigned to bring refreshments to the squad she was in so the question as to how she became terrified of him remains a mystery to this day.
âWell as long as sheâs capable, I guess thatâs alright,â he cocked his head, âAlthough whatâs she going to do with her wings? I mean she can fly around to keep an eye but she could still be spotted by assassins and get shot down.â
Visions | David
Well, there was no backing out now. Antonio wasnât around in the last war. All he had ever heard about were stories told to him by friends, families and scrolls documenting the event. Raising his head back up, he looked over at David then averted his eyes to gaze through the window.Â
âI canât really.. explain it properly. The dreams, theyâre not clear. I see fire, humans, creatures. Screams are heard. I see.. the elf king, bloodied - dead. And the king of Pararizon.â He rubbed at his eyes. âHe was cackling, saying something about.. a new age of war.â
He frowned. Now thatâs something that sound serious.
Sitting up, he thought about Antonioâs words carefully. Should they take that as a warning? Should they just shrug it off?
...
No. Dreams tend to have prophetic meanings to it. Maybe he should take this into consideration and dig deeper, see if he could find anything else.
âHas that dream been constant?â He pressed, âWhat was the last thing dreamt of before that? I need to be sure so I can make a report the high priestess.â
"David. He did it /again/."
He doesnât have to ask to know who sheâs talking about and sighed deeply, âAlright what did he do this time?â
Was he suggesting, or rather, stating that if she were to go ahead with her plan, that heâd follow her? Goodness, no. It was already a risky job, seeing as there was a chance that the spell would wear off and not only would she get caught by those of Pararizon but Alfred would also be rather upset with her but if he followed her into this mess.. David would be in danger. And she couldnât lose him, or put him through such things â she wouldnât allow it.
With a bit of hesitation due to being a bit disgruntled, she put her bow back onto the rack that held it and turned to face him. Her palms pressed against his cheeks and she gave it a squeeze. âYouâre right.. Itâs a bit overboard. Iâm not thinking straight. Iâm sorry, David.â Stepping onto her toes, she brushed her lips against his forehead. âPerhaps I just need some rest. I think Iâll.. hire someone to secretly keep watch of Alfred, just to keep him safe.â
Silently, David watched Erzsebet return her bow from where she took it. He wondered if she listened to his words and he got his answer when she spoke after she squeezed his cheeks again and kissed his forehead.
âI understand; youâre just thinking whatâs best for him,â he responded, pulling Erzsebet to an embrace, âI say you should; you looked exhausted,â he brushed some stray hair away from her face and tucked it behind her ear, âIâm putting my faith in you with that Erzsi but if something goes wrong, please tell me so I could do something to help. I want to help in any way I can because weâre family and I love you.â
Pulling away, he added, âAlthough Iâm curious. Who are you planning to hire to watch over Alfred?â
[text] good morning this is david i got ur # from emma do u want to go get lunch or smth there's something i wanna talk abt
[text] Hello David! Sure, sure. Where do you wanna meet up?[she thinks itâs pretty weird heâs initiating conversation but hey! no complaints]
âPerhaps youâre right, sheâs quite the social butterfly anyway although Iâd be more worried if it were some guy hitting on her, especially if he wonât stop,â how do you hint to your sisterâs bff who probably doesnât even know the said sister is gay that the said sister is gay? You donât. Probably.
In the end, David sighed. This is getting nowhere.
âItâs alright. I was just concerned sheâs gonna be forced into this kind of thing out societal pressures. Again.â
The stare she gave David was one of pure confusion. What. Forced into what? What exactly was happening in Emmaâs life? Not that she had any real ârightâ to be nosy but.. âForced into what kind of thing out of societal pressures, again? What do you mean? Iâm so confused.â Leaning back against the chair, she stared down at her food then rose her green eyes back to be fixed on his. âIf someoneâs.. hitting on Emma, and itâs something that bothers her then maybe sheâll tell me, when sheâs back? I could talk to that guy and tell them to leave her alone. No one should be forcing themselves onto someone like her. She has every right to choose who she wants to be with andââ Her eyes averted from him, now looking out the nearest window.Â
He shrugged, âItâs better if you ask her,â plus itâs not in his place to reveal his sisterâs romantic preferences to her best friend of all people, âMaybe sheâd be more confident with herself or something. I donât know. Itâs kinda weird how you two were so close yet she hasnât told you anything. Then again, itâs not easy if you know what I mean?â
Honestly letâs just get this all done with and be straightforward. No pun intended.
âYou know what? Fuck this beating around the bush,â he leaned on his seat casually, âDo you like my sister? As in like like or whatever you girls call it? Because donât you worry pal, I am alright with it.â
Visions | David
âItâs alright! Never too busy for my so⊠brother!â He wiped the sweat off his brow with his sleeves and then dusted his hands, âYou sound troubled though. Whatâs wrong?â
While he was at it, David took a spare chair from a table and gestured Antonio to sit down.
Antonio squinted over at David, the corner of his cheeks quirking upright. âYou almost called me son,â a bit of a snicker fell from his lips as he went over to the chair to take a seat. In an instant, his head collided softly with the table and there, he rested on it. âJust a bit.. unsettled lately. Iâve been having these weird dreams lately. I havenât told Lovino about them either, or Erzsebet,â he paused, clearing his throat. âAnd no way am I going to tell Alfred.â
Whatever comment about his slip up from Antonio came out, David ignored it because as much as he would deny it, it's as true as the sun shining brightly on the sky every day. Antonio may not be his son by blood (not that elves are born the same way as other creatures) but he loved and cared for the boy just as much.
"Alright," Frowning, David sat on another chair he pulled out from under the table, "Tell me about these 'dreams' you've been having. Maybe the goddess is trying to tell you something."

"David. He did it /again/."
He doesnât have to ask to know who sheâs talking about and sighed deeply, âAlright what did he do this time?â
Just holding her old bow was bringing back memories of the war sheâd fought in. All those years spent in the front lines, commanding her army â all the lives lost along with her own injuries. A shiver was sent down her spine but she ceased to let such things get to her. She had a mission to focus on and that was to protect Alfred, and ensure her warning would be well understood.
Turning around, she offered David a warm smile. âI am. Either I hire someone to protect Alfred - though knowing him, heâd hate that, or I go and turn myself into one of them and scare him as much as possible.â She bit her bottom lip, âIf I can put fear into his heart then maybe heâll stop going to the outskirts and maybe he wonât.. he wonât turn out like his own parents. I canâtâ I wonât let history repeat itself. Not while Iâm still breathing.â
Although his wifeâs plan is something that has the potential to scare Alfred into not getting himself into trouble again, David grew more worried as he thought about the consequences this might bring if it backfires.
âIâwait, no,â he blurted out without thinking, âNo, Iâm sorry itâs just⊠isnât that part a little too overboard?â
He scratched his head, âI mean I know you wouldnât overdo it and I know you donât want what happened to his parents to happen to him as well, itâs justâŠâ Oh Goddess he doesnât think he could handle it if his family breaks apart because of this, âWell if youâre going to do that, then youâre not doing it alone. Iâd hate it if something happens to the both of you even if it were accidental.â
He looked up. âBut why? Nothing happened while I was there! Iâm not hurt and I know what I was doing. I know what kind of humans to look out for and I can defend myself in case something does happen.âÂ
âBecause, Alfred, if you do happen to come across a âniceâ human,â David crossed his arms, âChances are youâll end up coming back him with missing a limb or worse, you wonât be able to come back at all and thatâs the last thing Erzsi and I want!â
He took a deep breath to try and not let his fears get the best of him. The images of the war still remained fresh in his mind even though that all happened in a hundred or so years ago. âItâs not that I donât believe that you canât take care of yourself. Itâs more of how⊠risky what youâre doing is. Even the most skilled warrior of Vervania cannot escape such risk.â
âWell, maybe theyâre doing it wrong,â he said âMaybe if we approach the humans with friendly intentions then maybe we can talk instead of fight.â He sighed. âYou know that I know how some humans are better than most of the creatures here. Iâve been there. I thought all of them hated us, but I found someone who treated me with respect. If i can find more like him, then we can live in peace together!â
âI just need a chance, but no one believes me! This is my destiny! I know it! If you guys are so worried, then why donât you help me?âÂ
He knew Alfred has point but still. Itâs not going to easily shake off the fear and resentment David has for the humans. One his sisters almost died in their hands while she was quietly studying but fortunately managed to escape albeit injured during the point when the two kingdomsâ relationship was starting to become sour. "David. He did it /again/."
He doesnât have to ask to know who sheâs talking about and sighed deeply, âAlright what did he do this time?â
Erzsebet gave his hands another tight squeeze before dropping her hands back to her sides. âI suppose.â Clicking her tongue, she walked around the room, only to stop and gaze outside of the window. âBut what else can I do? I feel like Iâm going to have to hire him some kind of bodyguard orââÂ
Her eyes widened as an idea came to mind. Quickly, she went over to him and brushed her lips up against his cheek, then ran back down the stairs. Now standing inside the little room they had, in which she held most of her weaponry and gear, she began to rummage through her belongings until she acquired a bow she hadnât used for years.Â
âI wonder if Antonio will be able to cast a spell on me to make me look different. Maybe human-like.â
Confused with her actions, David followed her downstairs and into the storage room where most of their old belongings has been sitting in the last 50 years.
