Chai grunts as he pops the casing on his arm shut. The chips inserted into his cybernetics hum to life, and he can feel his connections to Macaron and Korsica get just a little stronger. His limbs feel less heavy and his heart pounds with more power than before.
Peppermint checks her pistols again, gaze raking across the internals as she studies the power source and circuitry. With a nod, she snaps the casings back on. "I'm ready. I hope you are too. And Chai? ... try not to get too involved in stuff like this in the future. The last thing we need is to make more enemies."
808 jumps onto his shoulder as Chai flashes his accomplice a confident smirk. "Not very rockstar of you, Peppermint."
"I'm not even the one interested in being a rockstar, that's YOUR thing."
"But, you're my bandmate."
"We've had this conversation before, and we're not calling the group that. Chai, listen, that last fight was absolutely insane. We can't keep escalating. What if something really bad happens to you."
Chai scratches 808 behind her ears. "Then someone's gonna come to rescue me. Not 'cause they owe me or anything, but because they know that's what I'd do for them. And besides." He twitches the fingers of his prosthetic arm. "I... I'm not really a hero type, but someone who's sort of like me, even if just a little bit..."
Peppermint's frustration burns down as she catches his meaning, and her gaze finds her own prosthetic leg.
"... it's fine. I understand."
