The merchants who came to the harbor to trade with the people of the island sparked Danikaās interest in traveling to the mainland, and she saved up as best she could in order to buy passage on one of the boats.
Sheās been a courier for raiding gangs, delivering messages (and lots of chems) between outposts.
Has done chems. (Actually, sheās done a good amount of chems, the majority of her usage starting not long after she wasĀ ādraftedā into working for one raiding gang in particular. It was her way of coping with the abuse she suffered while working for them.)
Sheād occasionally taken Mentats when living on the island to help steady her nerves and ease her anxiety when the fog around the harbor became particularly heavy and closer than normal.

āWhy canāt we both move cars - one of us to steer, the other to push. We can both keep an eye out? Thereās no guarantee that there will be gas in the cars. And where Ā the hell did you even learn to hotwire a car? Am I associating myself with a known criminal?ā Gemini joked lightly, as she teased the other woman, looking around cautiously for any walkers to show up.
āIf thereās more than just a few, thatās something we can worry about, then.ā Folding her arms across her chest, the red head watched expectedly, as Dani began to check the fuel gauge on one of the cars. āNo gas in it, right?ā She spoke up as she made her way over to her friend. āLooks like weāre going to have to both move the cars, after all. But it might be beneficial to find at least one with a bit of gas - in case we are overwhelmed and need to get the hell out fast.ā Leaning up against the car, Gemini took out her bow and readied it with an arrow, taking a deep breath. āItās not too late for you to not trust me, you know.ā
"Actually," Danika replied, stopping her sentence after the word to let Gemini either accept the fact or continue to wonder if her guess was accurate. "Yeah. No gas. At least thatās what the gauge claims." She sighed and propped her hands on her hips. "Fine. It's fine. If they're totally out, we just throw 'em in neutral and shove 'em into place."
"Well, you haven't tried to kill me yet," she commented, reaching for the bottom dash plate and ripping it off it off, then tossing it to the ground before taking a knee. "Or leave me to die somewhere. Or shove me into a deadhead for one reason or another. So for now, I trust you." She pulled a small pocket knife out of its hiding place in her boot while yanking the wires down, flipped the blade open, and cut and trimmed the ends she needed as she talked. The whole process took only a matter of seconds, ending with a growly "damn" when nothing happened after tapping the wires together. "Battery's dead. We push this one. Check the Mom Wagon over there-" she pointed to the tan minivan six spaces down- "and I'll check the Mercedes next to it."

āOf course I donāt have to. But whereās the fun in that? Relax - if I had a bad day and you were the only one around, Iād merely tie you to a tree, put an apple on your head, and throw knives at you, yes?ā Honestly, if it hadnāt been for meeting Danika, Alina probably would of been alone to this day - if she was still alive, that was. The Russian was impulsive and could be considered someone who lived for this new world; lived to kill. She was good at it, and had enough pain of loss from it, too.
āIkea has many things. A bit of everything. We could bring a truck full of random crap back. Also, Iām bored and want to kill things. And Iād just as soon as kill someone here.ā Itās not like she hadnāt done it before, but they absolutely deserved it. āIt will be fun, Tiger.ā Alina prompted firmly, hoping Danika would agree. āI could just as easily go by myself, you know.āAnd she would - would she come back out alive? She had a better chance of doing that than most in this world, that was for sure. But Danika, despite not enjoying it as much as Alina did, would come. Because she knew there was a better chance of Alina making it out alive if she were there, as well. āWe could find creative ways to use everything in Ikea to kill the bastards at this camp?ā It was a game Alina made up, which the others knew about. Another reason why she probably scared them half to death. She may of had colourful tattoos that signified she was probably a mother in another life - but they fooled anyone who didnāt know her. Find an object, and come up with a creative story on how to use it to kill someone - the person who came up with the most creative method won; loser had to clean the weapons when they got back.
"Or we could build a skate ramp and decorate the camp," she suggested. She wasn't creative in her methods of thinking of ways to kill things. Not like Alina. Danika pretty much only had one way- the first thing that popped in her head when her 'fight or flight' response kicked in. And it usually involved the ice pick she kept on her person at all times. The little tool had saved her skin more times than she had bothered to keep track of. She'd grown so reliant on it that she'd begun a collection and started hiding them in special secret pockets in all of her clothes. "And if we find a hardware store between here and there, there's no way I can think of a better way to kill things than you. Youāre too good. But I can graffiti your work if you find me some spray paint."

āHey, I am completely baggage free. I like to travel light, you know? Makes it easier to stay on the run.ā It was a bad joke, but the look on her face made him want to at least attempt to lighten the mood just a bit. Ā "And I have super human strength, so if you ever need some help with your baggage, I can carry it for you for awhile. Share the load, Mister Frodo.ā
Danika's newest smile was as genuine as they came. Along with the slight glimmer of wetness in her eyes. She reached across the little table and lightly patted his cheek with her palm. "And that, moy dorogoy drug, is what makes you gorgeous in my eyes." She dropped her hand down to his forearm and squeezed before retreating from his personal space. "But," she continued, spinning the nearly-fryless rectangular paper bowl in front of her. "You're not the one on the run. That's me, remember? You're just the idiot who stuck his cold, wet nose where it shouldn't have been in the first place and started playing Stalk The Russian."

Danika is moonlighting on my multi-muse blog, because she wants to join the party over there but isnāt ready to let go of her individual blog here.
Also, shameless promo for my collection of sweet babboos over there. (Just updated the muse page, too!)

āWell, clearly I agree with that. I mean, you seem to fall in that third category there, right?ā The wolf quirked an eyebrow at her, as if challenging her to deny it. If she could call him out,Ā he could do the same to her just as easily.Ā āWe got on this topic because you think that walking sack of testosterone over there is prettier than me.ā
"Well, he is pretty," she insisted, shifting in her chair. But the playfulness had faded slightly from her eyes. "And it's not that I can't handle emotional baggage." It's what's left behind when you die I can't handle. She shifted again, trying to distract herself with a french fry as she slipped back into a lighter demeanor. "Besides. I think I have enough baggage of my own to deal with. Why should I be burdened with yours, too? Hmm?"

Desmond was unaware of pretty much everything until he was in the medical wing. They began cleaning up his wounds and he couldnāt help the flow of curse words spill from his lips. In another life he wouldāve been timid and never sworn just like his parents taught him but this life had been rough and cruel so it was common for him. It was clear in the way the medics looked that his bleeding was beginning to calm down. They were about to start the stitching until he heard Dani outside and tried to sit up. A nurse attempted to push him back down but instead he gave them a look.Ā Sometimes he didnāt need words to get his point across especially since everyone knew exactly who Dani was to him. So with a sigh the nurse continued to start his stitches while the other fetched Danika. When she went outside the sight was unruly but she quickly called out for Danika to listen,Ā āDesmond is inside and needs you in there with him.āĀ He smirked at the comment before wincing in pain at the sting of the needle. It wasnāt so much that he needed her in here but more the fact that he didnāt want her getting suspended because she ripped the head off of a rookie. Desmond didnāt blame him completely since he was a newbie but he knew that if someone did this to Dani he would be exactly the same.Ā
She was caught once again before she was able to wrap her tiny fingers around her target's throat. But it didn't stop the brunette from continuing to try. She struggled vainly against the arms that restrained her until she heard the nurse at the doorway speak Desmond's name. Only then did she change gears and priorities. Her body softened, letting her slip easily out of the grasp that held her so she could dash through the double doors before anyone else decided to stop her.
She thought she heard the nurse tell Desmond's handlers something about barely missing and artery and coming close to puncturing vital organs, but she fought the urge to stop and force her to repeat herself. She felt she'd spent enough time away from him already. And if he had lost as much blood as they were making it seem, she needed to get in there before they changd their minds and forced her to wait outside.
"Desmond!" His name tumbled hoarsely from her lips, half in relief and half in refreshed worry. He looked like hell. Most of the cuts were superficial enough that no one was doing anything about other than holding them shut with butterfly bandages for the time being. They'd likely be glued together to keep them from reopening whenever he moved. But there were a couple that the medics were having to probe and stitch up. "My god," she breathed, still in the doorway. Her voice was calm at first, but quickly grew louder and sterner as she berated him in Russian. "I'm going to kill you. You scared the shit out of me. You turned off your com! What the fuck were you thinking?!"

Geminiās hand shot out and grabbed Daniās wrist before she even knew what she was doing. āThatās great, and you might trust me with your life, but I donāt trust me with your life.ā There was no way she could stomach being āsafeā while Dani was on the ground. āTarget always has those giant three windows, right?ā Tugging her friend along, she continued moving around the building until she saw the windows, one of them thankfully already broken. āOkay, so.. if weāre quiet, we could..ā What could they do. Finally releasing Danikaās hand, she spun slowly as she looked around.
āOkay, what.. we can push the cars - in a semi circle around the windows. Give maybe.. fifty feet from the top of the circle to the wall? And make some noise? From the inside.. last thing weād need is to be attacked from both sides. Then weāll die.ā Hell, they might even die trying this, but Gemini wasnāt sure theyāre really be able to live if they didnāt do this, anyways. āAnd we can start tomorrow. Do the cars with remaining daylight.. and start tomorrow. When we have lots of light. No dark. We can lure them out all morning. Take our time?ā
"Well..." She thought for a minute. "Okay, yeah, that might work. But we both can't be just moving cars. One of us has to keep an eye on that window and the streets." Danka smirked. "Which means you'll have to trust yourself with my life because I can hotwire a car faster than you." Once again, her criminal past was proving to be extremely useful for continuing her survival in the present.
"But," she continued as she walked to the closest car, a mid-90's Mercury Sable with all four doors left wide open. "If there's more than just a few, we're gonna have another problem." She frowned, checking the fuel gauge. Empty. No surprise there. "The bodies will pile up and then we run the chance of them crawling over each other. But there's not enough cars to do another semi-circle. One's all we're gonna get. So we can't let them pile up."
arexyouxafraidxofxthexdark:
āHush. It is better to know if it is broken or not now, net?ā At least now she didnāt have to reset anything. She imagine the pain would subside soon enough. āThe next time he grabs your ass, it will be my dagger running through his hand.ā The scary part was, she meant every word of it, too - Dani might not of belonged to her, but sheād also be damned if any of the unworthy pigs around here touched her.
āYes, well, Iāll be paying him a visit later today.ā Nothing a little infected blood on a dagger held to a throat couldnāt fix. āMaybe I havenāt killed anyone in too long. Maybe thatāll put them back in line. But if you wanna talk about kinks.ā Alina threw a wink Daniās way - without an accompanying smile, as usual - before continuing to look around, eventually letting out a sigh. āThis is boring. Can we do a run tomorrow? I want to hijack an ikea.ā She even pouted towards the other a little. Alina lived for chaos - she lost both her sons due to this new world, and was separated from her twin sister, who she refused to believe to be dead. Getting adrenaline going was the only thing that took her mind off it all. Add that to the fact she didnāt particularly care if she was bitten, and it left for a rather impulsive Russian with a need to stab the undead.
The shorter woman snickered and rolled her eyes. "You don't have to maim or kill everyone you don't like, you know. That would leave just me around. And then what would happen if you have a bad day? I'd be worm food, too." Though she was only half-joking. Danika felt a certain kinship with Alina, almost like a sisterly bond. Which, in all honesty, made her feel more safe and normal than she had in a long while.
A genuine laugh bubbled up from her throat. "What the hell do we need from Ikea? You thinking of putting together some shitty bookshelves? Collect a few tacky-looking knick-knacks for the common areas of camp?" A thoughtful look came over her face as they walked. "Though a few lawn ornaments wouldn't hurt. Like those colorful glass and metal things that spin when the wind hits them? Those would actually look pretty scattered around the place."
