Colorism in the sims community
See I come from a time when we didn’t have anything for dark skinned sims (Mind yall, Im only 26), so we all had to make do with what we had.
CC has grown beyond anything we can imagine and we now have makeup, hair and skins for darker sims, hell, even dark brown eyes!
So that bring us to the question: Why is no one making dark skinned sims?
And if they do: Why do they have to be unique (Vitiligo; colored eyes) in order to be acceptable?
This takes us to two side of the story:
One: Dark skin is still treated in a negative light (especially when it comes to women in a unique way in terms of femininity and etc. Lets call a spade,a spade) in real life. Caste systems still exist and dark skin is associated with negative things. Like so much it even impacts black animals.
Two: Who does the audience interact with? When I think of the most popular sim rp/story accounts and content creators and content in general: The majority features non-black sims/simmers and if they are black, they typically are light skinned.
I think it boils down to creators wanting the instant satisfaction that you typically get when creating lighter skinned sims. You will usually see more reblogs, likes and interactions saying how gorgeous the sim is.
HOWEVER: People also don’t let their darker skinned sims marinate.
It was always my biggest pet peeve in my time in the community and thats why I made Lukas but I also used Lukas as an extention to showcase dark skinned women because there is a difference in how Dark skinned men are viewed vs Dark Skinned women.
I think in order to fix this issue: Simply start with making your sims darker. Play around with different facial features, find a skin you like that helps. Most of all, continue with them
More simblrs need to investigate why most of their Sims aren’t darker than a paper bag
Not me doe, yall be easy
Just realized Ive never introduced my sim (and his simdog Marshall) Russell
Some of my favorite pictures of him
The Oliveria-Lewis duo is now a trio
got nothing better so here's some extra unedited oriana from this
do not forget the patron saint of these weeks that we celebrate ourselves proudly and openly in the streets
her name was Marsha P Johnson, and we have her to thank for so much.
remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.
thank you, Marsha. we remember you.

I have played paralives for several hours now:
The amount of customization is amazing! Sliders are a little confusing when you first hop into it and def need some rework on some of them but otherwise, its amazing
I do hope they add more accessibility tools and devices for disabled paras! They currently only have a hearing aid, mask, and prosthetic leg (that doesn’t work currently when applying, at least for me)
THE BLACK HAIR SELECTION IS AMAZING! I do hope they add way more in the future but there was definitely more than 6 of them! (They even included them damn kilmongers)
You can tuck in SOME shirts and layer them with different tops. However, you can’t tuck in pants to boots currently and there is some major clipping.
Patterns are not added with the clothes so if I wanted a funky texture, not possible but THERES A COLOR WHEEL
Tattoo choices are shitty booty right now but with future updates ( and mods), it works perfectly with free placements.
The UI is clear but its also way too big and takes up some of the screen, I would prefer a more minimalist look to the UI.
There are bugs in gameplay, thats to be expected, it just came out.
The FPS rate is pisspoor and laggy in some aspects and def needs work but I am sure devs will get it!
The way relationships work in the game is an amazing concept as well as leveling up in a career! It makes things way more complex and you are not guaranteed a negative or positive relationship! Plus the fact that your para may like another one, but that para may not like yours. Vice versa and etc
I appreciate being able to edit the story telling settings! Being able to slow down time gives space for so much more work to be done!
No traditional loading screens! There is a pop up that says “loading lot” but it opens up immediately
YOU CAN GO SHOPPING AND BUY STUFF IN PERSON
There is a hospital if your para gets sick!
Build/Buy mode is CHEFS kiss! The customization of everything is absolutely beautiful and wonderful! The free placement, resizing! Only downside is there dan be clipping within interactions (like placing a pillow on the bed)
There are 8 life stages: Newborn, toddler, child, pre-teen, teenager, young adult, adult, and elder. AND there is gradual growth so your newborns-teen gets taller as they get closer to the next life stage.
No pets currently
Caring for the newborn paras is HARD and glitchy in alot of ways
Overall:
If you are thinking about getting paralives, I say get it now while its $35-$39.
Because the price will go up in the future!
For a brand new simulaton game from a small indie team: 10/10
But with actual critiques to what it is currently 6-7/10
(Reminder the game just dropped and its to be expected to have issues!)
Paralives got me
Paralives
What makes paralives so worth it is nostalgic.
There was a time when games went into depth with minor details, the things you wouldn't think about with other games. If a game was more than $20 it was because the gameplay, the story and more made it worth that price.
Now days games just throw a "heres realistic graphics oh and AI for you to fill in where we fall short" at us and then charge $70. People pay that price because there no other game to make you go there.
Paralives is a reminder that games don't have to cut corners. And I know its not the teams working on these games that want it that way, they are likely fans themselves. Its the business and big corps.
I hope that now that paralives and Inzoi (not favored by me personally) are out in the life simulation realm, it helps with people to stop letting EA play in our faces with the way they are doing the sims 4.
As I always say: The sims 4 isn't a boring game without mods, the issue is they are charging people $1000+ to get all the content needed to make the game worth playing without mods.
when you compete with games like Paralives that charges you $39 for a game that will have free updates even when its completed and they already provide you with enough that you can play for about 100 hours.
Ea can't even argue about the bugs Paralives will have at launch because their recent update already reqired a hotfix because they just broke more and more shit.
it's a few build/buy cc creators that make their cc and even the graphics for their cc previews so similar i'm like... ik y'all the same person i just can't prove it
Like switch up the previews or something at least
If you ever feel like you hate how your sims look and want them to look “more realistic”
My biggest advice is give them “imperfections” (Aka things that don’t fit beauty standards)
I’m telling you, it make them look 10x better and more realistic.
