Kinda serious topic I guess as it pertains to kosa. If it does pass do NOT stop fighting. Do not give up, I know this sounds cliche or corny but IDGAF. People will be mad people will be angry! Let it out! Be mad, be upset, but don’t let it get the best of you. You may feel hopeless and alone but you aren’t. Keep fighting, keep pushing for change. Even if it feels like nothing will come of it don’t stop fighting. This isn’t the end.

FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE - We need your help

At least we can say we're ending Pride Month with a bang. As we wrap up our celebrations, we've been pushing more than 4,000 calls to DC, where lawmakers are yet again set to vote on legislation1 that would wall off LGBTQ+ content and voices behind dangerous online ID checks.2 Censorship threats like these won't just got away—we have to make them. And after years of fighting off the same dangerous legislation session after session,2,3 I won't lie: resources are drying up, and we need your help. We set out to raise $15k this Pride Month, funds our small team sorely needs to run anti-censorship campaigns year-round. But with just one more day left in June, we're only a third of the way there. It takes a lot of resources to mobilize massive call-ins to Congress, send vote recommendations to offices, drum up online resistance, and secure thoughtful press coverage. We deserve good, privacy-preserving legislation that actually protects us from Big Tech greed without requiring we scan our faces or submit IDs to engage in our favorite fandoms, access LGBTQ+ or reproductive health resources, organize a protest, or game with friends. kosa passed house, unfortunately. not the best news to hear

it isn't law yet, however. so don't freak out, yet. or at all because the best thing you can do is be calm. it still has to pass senate and that's a fact.

keep calling your reps... especially the ones who have voted specifically for the kids act + kosa. reminder that these aren't the only bad bills they're passing. i forget all of them (since they total as 19, i believe) but the screen act and appstore accountability act are especially alarming.

call, email, fax, and write to your senators! resources are right down below as usual for easy access! (badinternetbills provides you an email script and the names of senators. it's super easy, anyone can do it with just a few clicks. if you don't feel like calling you can wait until after hours and leave a voicemail. you can always write a letter, but i'd advise you do that immediately so it's seen as soon as possible!

and if you can't do any of those, it's okay. just keep spreading the word and not only on tumblr. make videos to post online and persuade family into contacting local congress as well (but be careful with who you tell, because they might just be in favor of these bills)

If KOSA gets passed, just know you won't be seeing me anymore. I'm not willing to put my I.D. into the ether. So, sorry. Lets just hold out as much hope as we can it DOESN'T get passed. I remember when it first got passed. When it affected YouTube mostly. So I know the impact it can have. Lots of people will lose money, just like the last time KOSA passed. And many people will suffer greatly. Lets just beg for the bill not to be passed.

Unfortunately, the Kids Act passed the House. The amount of misinformation I saw LAST NIGHT and this morning on TikTok on how “KOSA didn’t pass the house” when the vote DIDN’T EVEN HAPPEN YET🫩. Now it’s time to call your Senators, please call and tell them why they should Oppose this bill.

“KOSA never passes the senate tho in the various times it’s reintroduced” doesn’t matter, please continue to call, fax, email. As well as ignore videos that say that the bill didn’t pass UNTIL the debate and vote officially happens on the set time and date.

I am unsure when the Senate will discuss the Bill, but please start calling and emailing (calling is preferred). Linktree (from OmarBigSister on Tt) will give you websites that you can use to call your senators and even provide a call script. You can also use the 5 calls app to help you reach your senators.

As someone who gets nervous while making phone calls, leave a voicemail, anything makes a big difference (try calling after 6 or 7pm to leave voicemails). Specifically to their state office, not the dc office.

if this bill passes senate im genuinely going to lose my shit because i have two friends irl that i talk to once in a blue moon and i might not even be able to talk to them because i talk via snapchat and instagram cuz my messages don't work.

and im assuming both fall under the thing which if they do im screwed on soooo many levels

The KIDS act (which contains KOSA) passed the US house, so I would recommend calling your senators and telling them to vote in opposition. I don't think I need to stress the importance of being able to use the internet freely and without privacy barriers being breached.

There are many scripts online you can follow, many ways to tweak your message to fit your senator (ESPECIALLY if they are up for reelection this year). Whether it's a recording you reach or a real person, be straightforward, don't argue, just let your rep know that you are a constituent and you oppose the KIDS act, etc.

Here is where you can search for your senator... call, email, fax, bring them physical letters, show up in person to their offices if you are able.

As of writing, the KIDS act, a nee part of KOSA that would enable the government to require one to give facial ids and other personal information to get online has passed the House of Representatives . This is an attempt of the government to encroach on internet privacy and free speech, and it is both poses a threat to our security and gives the government more control over what we have to say.
