ok I binge watched the other season four episodes, and dear lord this season is terrible so far, I don’t think there’s any way to come back from this train wreck.

- balthazar returning makes zero sense from a story telling stand point. he was a good villain in era 2, but all the characters he had interesting dynamics with are long dead at this point. the main reason people liked him as a villain in the first place was his poetic rivalry with the fairy queen, but the fairy queen is LONG dead at this point. honestly I can’t see him pulling his own as the main villain this season, he has zero connections to the main characters.

- speaking of the main characters, why is this batch so bland? catbag can be a bit tropey at times, but at least they all had distinct personalities! I could tell you like two things about drizel, or whatever her name is, and she’s supposed to be the protagonist!

- I will say, the new magic system is interesting, and the character designs are on point. however, the familiars are getting annoying fast. it’s starting to feel like digimon or something, istg. the plot would move along way faster if they didn’t have to carry around these tomadachi things.

- drizel and her protagonist squad don’t feel like they like each other or even want to be around each other. they all want different things and none of them have to do with the main plot! drizel’s focused on helping people (which is a vague as hell and boring motivation), half the squad has an edgy backstory about revenge, and then there’s the naruto knock-off tagging along with them???? what’s with that???

I really don’t like where this season is going guys, it’s gonna take a miracle to get this show back on the road.

Anyways since I’ve been kind of getting back into writing fanfiction again, I’m considering writing some Beligrad/Kayuna friendship one shots. I might be biased since they’re my two favorites, but I feel like their relationship is underrated

Ehh fans either loved it or hated it, I think it was a lot of cool concepts but poor execution

exactly. It brought up cool ideas, but the new team wasn’t up to the task.

The issue with the new season is that they decided the assistant writer who was responsible for the most questionable choice of S2 was actually a genius who was held back by the lead writers.

So now he brought back all his failed attempts at making Tatyus the main character and the lady-killer he was during S2, while breaking all relationship that could take screen-time away from his fav “romance” (i hate to call it that). Not even opposing ships (tho those got hit VERY hard), just friendship was too much. Now Tatyus need to be tortured souls who everyone secretly hate (Understandable with his new personality, because we’d never reach peak edge if he was still in character), and who’s only solace is his new gf who’s just doting and him and letting him do whatever he want.

If I was more cynical i’d say this is the writer’s self insert fantasy, and the producer should have kick him out and brought back the OVA duo. Those two really understood the characters.
