Sometimes John says something so concerning but also devastatingly funny out of nowhere, it's like getting a glimpse into the darkness of Robins for a quick second and then there's... not necessarily a sunny spell, but maybe just neutral clouds. General white clouds scattering light.

This genuinely made me laugh so hard I nearly pissed myself: being able to drive (and parallel park) is a literal character trait of John Robins'. He did indeed teach Isy Suttie how to drive, this is something that has been discussed on the Elis and John show a number of times over the years in fact!
Isy somehow forgetting that John taught her to drive, and better yet saying that John doesn't look like someone who can drive, just created a moment of sheer comedy gold. If there was a comedian who could drive you'd HAVE to think of John Robins! His whole entire identity was just called into question there, and that's quite a feat given that this was on an episode of a live podcast Isy hosted called The Things We Do For Love, a.k.a. John Robins' personal (and very deep) shame well.
So of course I had to clip it. 'I could drive for England!' Someone get him and Lewis Hamilton on a podcast about driving together, I NEED to hear it.

Oh John oh John oh John! Sometimes I cannot understand how he ended up a comedian but not a poet. The monologue about running into ghosts, so many ghosts, ghosts of past when you return to places that have so many memories, so many ghosts!
I was just in a city of some of my own ghosts yesterday, driving streets painted with such thick, rich strokes of experiences, some still fresh as if four years had never passed, some memories staler, some of the paint peeling off like a scab. How John knows! The ghosts! So many old ghosts.

Elis DJing for his heroes Super Furry Animals, ‘opening’ for them, officially being added to the lineup, that’s on par with John opening for Queen all those years ago. I hope London is ready. I hope Elis plans to bring every Gorky’s and Datblygu and Adwaith vinyl he owns! The people of London’s Ally Pally are in for a treat
Jumping on here with a recommendation for Elis heads: I love love love Curious Under The Stars. Go listen to it. Elis plays the titular character, and if you love a bit of slightly mythical, magical drama set in a small Welsh village, go check it out, it feels like acted poetry sometimes, it's just lovely

it is absolutely hilarious to me that John has spent the last year talking about his #gainz on the Elis and John show, with Elis and Dave so happy for him because they always just are so happy for anyone who doesn’t come off as a typical fitness enthusiast, or anyone with barriers to fitness finding their own ways of enjoying it, encouraging John, telling him how much they admire it all. It is hilarious to me that underneath all that, there was Elis, just casually benching way above John’s best, pulling up like 12 pull-ups on average where John dedicated a section of the podcast one week to when he managed to do 1, and Elis just never told him about it until recently. Because he didn’t want John to get discouraged or disheartened. All this while, meek little Elis, significantly shorter than John (which I mention because the two mention it often), going about his harmless day just cycling all over the country, was capable of absolutely fucking decking John, but he’s just too kind a soul to have done anything at all including even mention it to him, and the dynamic between these two absolutely cracks me up, they are the perfect foils to each other and that’s why even a chat podcast on BBC Sounds that spends 20 minutes talking about gym bro-ing, something I ordinarily wouldn’t stick around for, just becomes such a worthwhile and wonderful listen. Comedy!

Adventure #2 - London Marathon
I am actually SOOO disappointed this week's Elis and John show was an emergency prerecorded timeless pod. Gutted. I was salivating thinking of how the Oasis announcement was Tuesday 8 AM and by Tuesday afternoon we'd have had Elis and John recording the podcast. Even if they were recording it early on the Monday, what I'd have given to hear Elis and especially Dave's raw reaction to the Oasis reunion news: the rumours or the confirmation.
Dave would've been sobbing on record. Him and Elis will both absolutely go, I bet Dave would find a way to make sure he'll be at one or many of the Manchester shows, he and Hannah simply have to. I'm hoping we still get to hear him for the Friday show, even though he'll have had a few days to let it all sink in.
Personally I'm happy about the Oasis reunion but really what I'm doing with my life is waiting to vicariously live through the sheer hysterical joy Dave Masterman will be experiencing. We got a small peak into the Master-mind yesterday:

Dave was 100% correct when he said that Elis and John were amongst the most important shows on Radio X. No one did it like them before. They completely turned X’s desired focus demographic of chavism on its head. They brought in a kind of patience and consideration, an empathy and ability to look out for and care for the people around you without getting laughed at. They were closer to the spirit of the pits at the shows the bands played on X embodied: if someone falls, you pick them up and then have fun. No one’s done it since, either. Ed Gamble has a certain style of comedy (one that I’d have to approximate as ‘bullying with a twinkle in the eye’) but Ed and Matthew’s shows aren’t anywhere near Elis and John’s. I kind of wish they were on a music station these days, I feel like they were the perfect foil for any extra-lightheadedness that 6 Music’s perfect world can pretend to bask in (or rather John’s sourness as a counter to the ‘everything’s great!’ 6 vibe, and Elis as the foil to John), but also again the way they would ground music listeners in the world of pointless egos that is the music business would’ve been much better used on 6 than on a podcast.
Anyway, yes Dave. One of the most important shows on Radio X.
This clip from a recent Elis and John episode stood out to me— John and Elis respectively explaining the little games and challenges they invent for themselves and their fantasies on winning them, whether in Wordle scoring or scoring the winning Euro 2016 final goal for Wales against France (you can probably guess, PCDs, which is for whom).
But just in how sheepish and shy they get when relaying these obviously mostly unspoken little games you play to keep yourself going, Dave's utterly withering remarks with incredible comedic timing ('He lives alone, Elis!'), but especially for Dave's endearing summary at the end: 'We're all just kids at heart, aren't we?' And of course, John's punchline about traumatised ones.
It's a good, if somewhat niche and strange show, the Elis and John show!
