Lazy Bear, Mission. Our favorite restaurant in SF. We celebrated Helen and Parker's birthdays here. Honestly I thought the food at our first visit was better (probably due to the novelty). Lazy Bear is more conducive to group dining since it has communal seating. Perfect for a birthday double date. Sadly, two of the courses were a bit too salty. But luckily, there were about a dozen courses in total :) The iced coffee (ordered a la carte) is decadent and amazing. It is an expensive (one may say extravagant) meal, but totally worth it for special occasions!

SPQR, Lower Pac Heights. Another Michelin star. Another dud (high expectations here). We both had pasta entrees and both weren't super flavorful. Also I didn't like how small and packed the venue was. Would try once more.

Our first smitten kitchen recipe that we didn't absolutely love. Cauliflower pesto. Sad face. Lesson learned.

Schroeder's, FiDi. Took the SDRs to a congratulatory happy hour and ordered this very German sausage plate. Yummmm.

Chinese food potluck. Thank you, mom.

Bouchon, Yountville. Second 1 Michelin restaurant of the week (yay for parent's once-every-3-years visit). Side by side, we thought Spruce was much better than Bouchon all around: quality, presentation, ambiance, service. The French onion soup was to die for though. I look forward to recreating Thomas Keller's recipe in my own kitchen.

Spruce, Laurel Heights. One of our favorite meals in SF thus far. Highly recommend the bar menu (burger, pastrami sando). The caesar salad was on point. Desserts were really great too. My truffle pasta with egg yolk was bit underwhelming. But everything else was amazing.

Etc Desserts, Inner Sunset. Phil is gluttonous. We had this for dessert after a feast at King of Noodles down the street.

Sante, Sonoma. This diamond in the rough had its Michelin star taken away a few years back. We still loved the meal though. Each course was exquisite. We especially liked the chocolate soufflé at the end. They let us take it as presented to our hotel rooms since we were so full. Looking forward to our next trip.

Taqueria La Hacienda, Sonoma. We loved the hole in the wall, vibrant atmosphere and massive pina colada. Great prices too.

Back in Reno for xmas! We have brunch at unassuming Peg's Gloried Ham N Eggs. I ordered the tamale and eggs plate. So much food and fresh sides. For xmas, Mama Parker made minced pies (how British) and ham. We helped out with the veggie sides. Pro tip: roast your potatoes with your ham. You're welcome.

Helen and Matt host hot pot for six. Thank you for the inspiration to buy our own hot pot! I bake smitten kitchen crispy chewy chocolate chip cookies on our new fancy Williams Sonoma gold bakeware (thx Parker for forgetting to send this to friend as wedding gift = gift for Waller).

Farmer Brown's, Loin. We elbowed/waiting our way to sit at the bar for brunch. The food was ok. Think it's overrated.

Pabu, FiDi. Team outing to celebrate Haver's promotion. Gotta love flowers in the ice in the drinks. Also, my first time trying fatty tuna (so amazing). What a fun night.

Smitten Kitchen cookbook, I love you. Cinnamon French toast was bit tedious to make (toast bread, set in custard, then bake), but the result was worthwhile. Side of kale scramble and Parmesan took no time to whip up in comparison.

Meeting Street cookies from PVD, RI! We enjoy noshing on nostalgia at the Brown holiday party.

Brunch at Hog and Rocks in the Mission. Crazy xmas tree made of bread at Thorough Bread.
